Hey everyone, I’m doing great and I hope everyone else is too! I did cheat some on some treats but I’m holding my weight and plan to get back on track with exercise at the new year. Down 75 pounds and so thankful for my sleeve. Wishing everyone a blessed 2018!

Hey everyone!!! Sorry I missed our 7 month suriversary. The past couple of months have been super busy for me both at home and work and I am just now feeling like I have a little room to breath.

How did everyone do for their first holiday season after surgery? I feel like I did pretty good, but I did allow myself some treats. I am maintaining fairly easily between 154-157. I am hoping to be back on the site posting a little very week.

I hope everyone had a great Christmas!

I’m 42, married to my high school sweetheart. Our only son just graduated high school. I enjoy our horses and dogs, walking and swimming. My hobby is barrel racing, which I hope to get to do more and easier, after my surgery. (May 31st).
After dieting for as long as I can remember, this past year I just felt as though this was me. I’m always going to have to fight my weight. The older I get, the heavier I will get. But, over the past few years I feel like I’ve lost the person I used to be. The person I want to be. At times I no longer felt the desire to ride my horse that I trained myself to run barrels. Sometimes I didn’t even want to go do things with our friends. As my weight would go up, then down some, then back up more, I slowly quit taking my horse to competitions because I couldn’t shake the fact that I had been told I was too big for him. The past couple years I’ve just kind of floated through life. It wasn’t until bariatric surgery was brought to my attention that I felt that maybe I could reset my body, become healthy, and hopefully, reset my life.

So here I am. This is just the beginning of my journey.
    Blessings to you all!

Hello. I had my first appointment with my surgeon today. I know I still have awhile to go but he gave me the option of lap-band or the sleeve. I am trying to get opinions about the sleeve. I train horses so I did not know if someone has experience with the sleeve and being around horses and could help me out. I was wondering how long it will be post op before I can start riding again? What are the pros and cons of the sleeve? Any help would be great. Thanks in advance!

I just had my surgery in Mexico three days ago. I only told a handful of people and they all had reactions. I am the heaviest I have personally ever been and have lost weight many many times only to regain it. I needed a final solution. Pre surgery I was panicking and even wanted to cancel the flight and procedure! However it's over now, and we'll see how the recovery goes.

Your journey is your own and nobody else's. Only you know your true struggle. I was a low bmi patient and decided to keep my surgery to myself. My surgeon was very supportive and understood my physical struggles that led me to surgery. Being nervous before any surgery is completely normal. I was crazy nervous up and until the anesthesiologist administered the happy juice. I have never regretted my bravery. The changes in my life since surgery have been hard, fun, exciting, and so much more. My only regret was not doing it earlier. You'll hear that a lot around here.

Good luck and keep us posted. Thinking of you.

Hang in there! I like sugar free popcicles, maybe that could be a change for you.
I'm on day 10 of my liquid diet. I just keep thinking, this will be the hardest diet I will do, then once I have surgery, I will be able to slowly incorporate more and more of a variety of things. Don't lose the focus and what you started the process for!
I pray you can continue on. Sending you good vibes for strength and endurance.

Keep in mind you don't have very much weight to lose, if you're indeed 174 right now, and you've already taken off 31--which is fantastic. You're not going to lose at the same rate as someone like myself who was starting at 225 pounds to lose. I think you're right on track with eating and drinking. That's where I'm at right now and I'm a month out. I remember being shocked, and a little sad, when I was able to eat a cup of yogurt or drink a Protein Shake within a half hour. liquids pretty much go right through your stomach, and you can eat more yogurt than, lets say, chicken breast. Once you start eating real meat and real food, you'll find that you eat less than the soft stuff, feel full longer, and will probably start losing again.
Our bodies just need a break around 2-3 weeks, but keep the Water up, up, up and it will pick up again.

I am 5'5" starting weight 212. My bmi was 35.5.... I was just sick of the endless diets without success . I just had my surgery on Friday and I feel it was the best decision for me. It's your body...no one can tell you how you should feel. If in your heart you feel your ready to get off the roller coaster....do it! Good luck to you..whatever you decide.
PS...interestesing side note, the next day the doctor came in and said my stomach was not that big to begin with! He only had to make 4 incisions and gave me a size 32 bougie

I was in the same situation as you! Smallest person in my family, in spite of being overweight after having our daughter. Going up and down, exercising like crazy, fad diets and always being hungry. Once I decided to have the gastric sleeve I felt the same way. I could try harder, be better, I was taking the easy way out, cheating. Oh it went round and round. But I stuck to it. I am 7 weeks out, down 30 lbs and feel great! It's still an adjustment, but I'm so glad I did it. Don't beat yourself up, what we went through is hell. I actually had three women in my "group" at the hospital tell me I didn't have any reason to do the surgery. That is only because I wasn't 300 lbs YET. Good luck! It will be great!

I had the sleeve surgery 06/2015 and I dont regret it at all. I'm sure its the main reason I havent regained all the weight back.

However, now that I am 2 years out I can eat a lot more and I am working just as hard now as I did before the surgery to maintain the loss I have had and I am still trying to lose the last 30-40lbs. I am 58 so there's that.

I would like to suggest you read The Obesity Code by Dr. Jason Fung before you make your final decision. He makes so
much sense in what he talks about. I wish I had come across this book sooner but I still dont regret the surgery.

    Update:
I've survived week one of my two week liquid diet and doing great! As long as I'm sure to drink a Protein Shake 3-4 times a day, especially when I know I'm going to be walking a lot or do some sort of exertion. With this diet being aimed at having to stay at 500 calories to shrink my liver, my body is obviously running on fumes, so I have to be careful not to over do it. I've found diluting my Water with G2 (sugar free Gatorade) or Propel, helps when I feel I need more energy. I believe what has helped me to survive is sugar free popcicles and sugar free Jello in between my Protein Drinks throughout the day. broth is also a nice warm treat.
One week down, one more to go. Then surgery, May 31st!
I hope this helps others who may be worried about a liquid diet, or had trouble at the beginning as I did. Just don't give up or panic like I did, it gets easier. I have more energy going into week two, I just have to keep in balance.
Best of luck to all of you reading this and God Bless!

    Try this.
Here's what I'm using for shakes. This makes two 16oz Protein Shakes with around 200 cal 30 g of Protein and 15 g or less carbs. Add ice or Water until just over 32oz & blend. Two scoops of each powder, & 2 cups of most fruit blends keep you in the right range for carbs. Check first so you don't go over. Garden Of Life also has many nutients & 50 fruit and vegetable super foods. Drink one & save one for later.
