Arthur Dent got a reaction from sleevedshereen in Sleep issues
Has anyone experienced any issues staying asleep after surgery? I fall asleep pretty quickly, thanks to an Ambien, but I tend to wake up several times a night and need to listen to music or something to help me fall back asleep. Before surgery, I had problems falling asleep but then slept pretty soundly.
The sleep interruptions make it very difficult to wake up, and then I'm tired all day. Any advice? I don't know if this is related to WLS, but I'm five weeks out and I don't know if my body is changing too quickly which makes it uncomfortable at night.
    Just thought I'd ask.

Another question: If I find Premier Protein shakes, can I drink them without refrigeration?

Our pan calls for 3 meals, and 40oz of shakes.

I eat yogurt, cheese, and put Protein Powder in my coffee. I also eat a lot of canned chicken. Buffalo chicken dip, or add canned chicken to my Soup. Plus, Protein Water is useful. If I have a good day, I will have 1 Premier Protein, but in the beginning, I had to have 2.

Agree with above, i am three months out and every morning i have a smoothie made from 2 scoops chocolate VEGA 1 Protein powder (24 grams) and 6 oz skim milk with extra protein (10 grams) and 6 ounces chameleon cold brew coffee. Throw into a cup of crushed ice and blend in ninja.
that makes sure i get a good protein boost in an easy way in the morning.
In the puree stage put that Unjury unflavored powder on everything you can.

beyond puree stage order some pure Protein Bars (15 grams) or kind (there are some that are 12 grams) barsand have those between meals.

get some of those oikos triple zeros yogurts and eat those. Go to smoothie king and get one of the high protein smoothies and tell them to sub the turbinado for non cal sweetener.

There are lots of little things you can do to get the protein in over the course of the day.

Last week, my surgeon told me that pills wouldn't be a problem. Just don't take them the morning of surgery.

I did the DC march with my husband. Absolutely incredible feeling of power and connectedness.
I'll be getting a sleeve soon (still don't have surgery date) which will allow me to do more things like this, I hope.

I'm 8 weeks post-op but can tell you that I purposely ate a variety of favorite foods, before surgery, with the thought that once I'd had surgery I'd still "want" these foods but would have to deny myself. What I wish I knew then is that my tastes would change and that, at least in the early months, I would feel no desire for those foods I used to crave. Self-discipline with food has never been my strong point (duh) but the VSG makes it much easier to stay on course.

This is EXACTLY what I was thinking!
I understand this, I really do, but you need to get out of that frame of mind. You need to eat healthy for health sake, not to lose weight. After all there will come a time when you hit your goal weight or a weight where you are happy at, you wouldn't then stop eating healthy just because you are not losing any more weight, right?

    My experience is like @Sosewsue61's.
For me, there was no one event that broke the camel's back. I've had to deal with so many issues over the past 15 years or so, including needing seat belt extenders, not being able to buy T-shirts, getting winded on walks, hating seeing myself in the mirror, and so on. But then, in January or so, I had an epiphany. I realized that all of the things I've done simply have not worked, regardless of whether or not I stuck with them or bailed out quickly. This included private trainers, nutritionists, and four attempts at Weight Watchers.
So, there was no single thing that pushed me over the edge. I just had an a-ha moment when I knew I needed the surgery.

Can anyone recommend YouTube videos for entry-level strength training. After meeting with the fitness expert for my evaluations, I bought 10-pound and 20-pound dumbbells. I just have no idea what to do with them. And there's so much information on YouTube -- it's hard to figure out what's good and what's not.

I too like MyFitnessPal because it connects to my Apple Watch/Health. Also like that it has most foods when doing a search and it is easy to copy/paste a recipe and it locates all the ingredients.

It seems to me that many people want to keep the news close to their chest. I feel the same way. I have probably told 10 people, including one or two people at work so that they don't get too concerned when I tell them I have yet another doctor's appointment. For the most part, I figure this is my business and I'll tell people when I want them to know.
One thing I'm doing is keeping a journal (in blog form) of everything that I'm thinking and doing. I haven't told anyone the URL yet, so no one would know where to find it or even to look for it. I figure that right before the surgery, I'll announce it on Facebook and let everyone know where to find the blog. That way, everyone will know why I sought out the surgery, why I have failed with diets and exercise in the past, and what the experience has been like. For now, though, it's kind of like a diary for myself.

I am one month post op and I can't tell you how important my other half has been... without her I probably would have gone crazy. She is on point and knew what I could and couldn't have for each stage and helped me prepare meals and now that I am on a normal diet we put our heads together and think of meals that are good for both of us. But for instance last night we got really busy with clients and I had some left over chicken and she grabbed Taco Bell and that's Ok! At this point Taco Bell sounds gross but besides that I know that the world does not stop for me just because I chose to have surgery.. that's one of the first things wls patients have to come to terms with. She was also very helpful when I got home from the hospital by doing extra cleaning since I couldn't really and just helping me when I needed. You will be fine!

For me, it's going to be airline seats. I need them in first class, but at least the seats are somewhat wide. In economy, I have to suck in my gut for hours and pull my hands in front of me so that I take up less space.
