tuhok1591 got a reaction from Hannah83 in Hard time with Hubby Post Op
The 1st few weeks after surgery were hard on me to smell food that my husband & son would get for dinner. I would go for a walk while they ate so I couldn’t see/smell it. I now go through this w/ my son coming home about 10pm after work w/ pizza, McDs, etc. I wish he would not bring this in the house & eat it in front of me. Especially since I have a problem w/ night eating & just smelling pizza, french fries, etc sends me to the frig. Still working on dealing w/ this. My husband reminds me that I will always be tempted & will have to learn to deal w/ it.I just try to have Snacks that I can eat ready & available even though t isn’t as good as the pizza smells. Good luck on your journey!

I would like to also see a reminder for meds/vitamins/supplements and an interaction list/recommendations regarding what not to take together or what times are most beneficial. Several meal plans for each post surgery phase, that uses real food and not just promoting certain brands of supplements/protein products would be helpful to us newbies. I felt overwhelmed just trying to figure out how I was going to get all of my Protein, Water, meds & supplements in a day and timing it so I would allow 60-90 minutes after meals before drinking & still get it all in to meet the daily intake quota.

I am 52, my blood sugar was out of control & putting me on insulin actually made it worse. I had 3 of my doctors recommend the sleeve to help my diabetes and I had my VSG 1 month ago. I have only taken insulin 6-7 times since surgery and my fasting blood sugar this morning was 91. Before surgery my waking blood sugar was usually 225-250. I am still taking metformin but am so happy that I do not have inject insulin before every meal. I only have to test once a day at varying times. I have not had neuropathy pain in my feet/legs since & I think I may be getting feeling back in my fingers too. This has been a godsend for my health & the weight loss a huge bonus too.

I just say that I have been working very hard, walking, exercising, and watching what I eat. I have only told a few people that I felt would be supportive. Some feel the need to ask how much weight I have lost at almost every conversation. I am only two months out, and don't feel I should have to defend my progress, stalls and all. I suppose they only think progress = pounds lost. So not true as there are many NSV to Celebrate. Oh, and my favorite pre-surgery comment, "you just need to learn how to eat right." Well now I am learning how to eat right and not be ravenously hungry all the time. Now I have an off switch and am learning to have some will power too! Ignore those who feel they have the right to ask personal questions or decide what is best for you. Besides, when did they receive their doctorate? Keep up the good work everyone!

i'm glad you found Zumba and are enjoying it. I've been doing it on & off for the past few years, and it's truly the only form of exercise that i can really say that i enjoy. Like you, I'm often the one going the wrong direction, but it's just so much fun. I will send you a friend request on FitBit. I've been looking for people to connect with on MyFitnessPal that have had surgery and share their food journals. I need ideas for lunches and dinners. Does anyone know of people at our point or further along that shares these? Thank you!

Thanks to both of you for the responses. Amforshort congrats on your revision, we had the same procedure one day apart. I won't get into gory details but I took miralax once every night since the surgery and yesterday it started cleaning me out. It wasn't as unpleasant as stimulant laxatives have been in the past so I would recommend it to others. How are you feeling 5 days in?

So to avoid uneducated comments I have decided to NOT inform certain people about my journey. For now Its my husband and kids(all for it, extremely supportive ), two best friends, and my insurance broker (she comes in handy) Who am I on the fence about and havent'told, my brothers and my parents. Why...........well, I can just hear it now. Everything everyone said in the above comments, and I don't need that now while I am trying to focus on myself for the first time in a long time. Sadly mom manages to make a situation that has nothing to do with her, about her. Don't get me wrong love her etc. but everyone elses situation magically becomes all about her. I do think my dad will be fine with it, I just am not ready. I need to stay mentally focused on what Im doing here. We all need to stay focused on ourselves. This is a major decision for all of us going through this. And the last thing we need are the nay sayers of the world giving us "mind frick" to shoot us down because of THEIR insecurities and failures. So for those who are just beginning this don't feel like you have to divulge everything about this, it is no ones business but your own.
    Surgery date is Oct 12th!
I'll let you know how it goes if I do tell them

Oh how about " you can't eat that!"
I just literally spazzed out on my husband because I asked him to pick up some pudding at the grocery store. I get so agitated when people who have not been sleeved , nor have met with any nutritionist, nor any doctors- try to tell me what I can eat or can't eat! I'm the one who just had 85% of my stomach removed! Do you honestly think I'm going to eat any-damn-thing that is going to hurt me or impede my success??? Just shut up already!
    * I think this was more of a vent than anything.*

I had VSG 4/17/17 & have lost 44 lbs to date.

    HW 278, SW 263, CW 234

I hit a stall from weeks 4-6 and could not get below 240. Finally dropped 6 lbs last week. WHAAAAT! That really encouraged me and made me realize that I will plateau but will need to be a bit more patient and look at how far I have come in a relatively short time.

I walk 2-3 miles daily after dinner. Tracking my food in My Fitness Pal and doing Workweek Fitbit challenges keeps me accountable & helps to motivate me. Add me as your Fitbit pal & we can motivate each other.

I just tried Zumba & love it! Even though I feel awkward and haven't quite got any of the moves down, I am having fun while exercising & looking forward to going twice a week in July. Yes, I am the one who is still going left while everyone is going to the right.

Keep the faith and keep up the good work everyone!
Remember, if you only lose 2lbs a week, that is 100 lbs in a year!
I am sure it took so much longer to gain and the scale does not always tell a true tale. Work hard, stay the course and your efforts will soon be rewarded!

It will take a few days for a bowel movement. Then you may only have one every few days due to your liquid & puréed diets. I put a some Miralax everyday in my coffee. Try Milk of Magnesia before bed if you begin to get too bloated and have not had any success after 3 days. Good luck on your journey!

I too was at a stall in weight lost. I had lost 91.6 pounds total. I had my sleeve done 11/15/16 and since then I lost 43 before surgery and 48.6 after sleeve. I then noticed I was getting up at night wanting to snack so I would eat Greek yogurt or drink water! I was exercising like crazy. What I did was do two days of liquid diet to try and jump start my weight list and eliminate my cravings and its helped. I lost 3 pounds this week. I'm going to watch my carb intake from day forward. I'm going to try and keep it 35-30 & under a day!!!! I hope this works. Thank you folks for the advice.

Thank you! Doctor recommended high Protein, moderate carb, low fat but I'm finding a lot more success with high fat/protein and low carb (30g or less per day). I also feel a lot better doing low-carb

I don't get these unrealistic expectations! How long did it take to gain 35 lbs? This is not a magic surgery that will dissolve your fat In record time. I guess we all wished there were a pill that would cancel all our calories & bad choices. I am only 3 weeks post op today and just got over a 10 day stall on the scale despite walking 2-3 miles per day. Yes, it is frustrating to not see the scale reflect my hard work but my reflection in the mirror showed that my face had slimmed, I lost a chin, and my pants were getting baggy. Celebrate the non scale victories as the scale does not reflect all of your efforts on a daily basis. I have only lost 15 lbs since surgery. Be patient and make good choices. You will eventually see more results as your body overcomes the trauma it has just endured.
