I don't know about that hospital but I had my vsg done by Dr. Juan Lopez-Corvala at Hospital Angeles in Tijuana. I highly recommend him.

I had vsg with Dr. Lopez-Corvala in May 2017. My BMI was 32. I had the same thoughts - would I really go to Mexico for surgery? Well I did and it was the best experience ever!! I chose Dr. Corvala because of his outstanding reputation and the fact that the surgery would be at a full scale hospital, not a surgery center. Dr. Corvala has excellent credentials and I highly recomnend him. My brother had vsg here in the U.S. and honestly, I got better care in Mexico. My brother spent one night in the hospital, I spent three (I checked in the night before surgery). Let me know if you have any questions I can answer.

I had surgery with Dr. Corvala in May 2017. He is the best - and it was evident by the respect the hospital staff had for him. I would highly recommend him. He is very professional and my experience was excellent.

Do your research and then show your husband. Get the medical backgrounds on the drs you are considering, check their credentials. I'm sure my husband would be willing to correspond with yours to answer any questions.

Yeah I just had a small spoon of sugar free cool whip - yep. Tasted pretty gross and my belly is not my friend at the moment. I’ll keep the nice illusion of sugar free in my head only to keep me from having any more grocery store meltdowns. Lol

krosevf30 got a reaction from SallyH in Will I always feel nauseous?
I dealt with this and really struggled and then realized I was trying to add too many different foods at once - I had spent so much time planning my liquid, pureed and solid foods but turned out I could only tolerate a few in each stage. I had to scale back and stuck to Protein Shakes alot, applesauce, sugarfree chocolate pudding (I added Protein powder), mashed zucchini. Each time I got to the next food stage, I would pick 2-3 foods at the most. My dr. also had me stay on my acid reflux meds for a month or two after surgery. Good luck !!

Wow your post bought back memories! I was so anxious to move on to each next stage but I struggled each time. I finally realized I was trying too many new foods at once. So I picked one or two foods and stuck to those only. Cream of wheat, chocolate pudding with Protein Powder mixed in, these were lifesavers. Same thing when I transitioned to full foods - I made a cheeseburger casserole and it was too much too soon.
It is a slow process and can be very discouraging. I was told to take as long as I needed at each stage.

I miss soda - have not had one drop since my vsg last May. A word of caution - sugar free is not always the best selection. I finally bought a Yonanas machine so I can make my own sorbets. I've found that while eating whole foods (beans, lentils, potatoes, etc) fill me up quickly, things like sweets, ice-cream, chips, etc seem to go down way too easy. I have to really be conscious not to eat these

my BMI was 33 - so my insurance (Kaiser) would not cover it. I decided to have my surgery in Mexico with Dr. Lopez-Corvala. My father had a triple bypass, my brother had a massive heart attack at 48 (thankfully survived) and my other brother had diabetes. When I was younger, I worked out at a gym 6 days a week and managed my weight that way.
Now I am 59 - and have tried unsuccessfully to lose 60 lbs for many years. only my family knows I had the surgery, for two reasons 1) I didn't want to hear "you weren't that big, you could have lost it on your own" and 2) you went to Mexico?!!!
It was the best decision I made. Sadly, when I was in Mexico, my younger sister got very ill from obesity related disease, and passed away the week I returned. That confirmed that I definitely made the right decision.

Notice I noted HEALTHY...because we all know there are unhealthy ways of eating vegan/vegetarian diet. We can share our meals and pics (if you have any) with all those who are looking to follow a whole foods plant based diet. Happy sharing ya'll! Don't forget to follow the thread!!!

krosevf30 got a reaction from WaterAmazon in sleeved 5/16 in Mexico
I was sleeved by Dr. Juan Lopez-Corvala. The doctors and nursing staff at Hospital Angeles were absolutely phenomenal. Dr. Lopez visited at least 2 times per day and his coordinator, Bibi Maal was available for whatever I needed. The hardest part for me is getting all my medications down. I had to switch one of the meds I was on previously from a sustained release from to a regular tab and crush it. BLAHHH tastes gross.
Other than that I am healing well.
Just have to push myself to get up and walk around because I'm tired, physically and emotionally. Truthfully, I did have a bout of "what the hell did I do" but then reminded myself of what a better life I'm going to have and I will be able to enjoy food in a healthy way in the future.

I had my surgery on May 9th. In addition to having the sleeve, I had my gallbladder removed. The surgeon discovered a hietal hernia, he went ahead and fixed that. I spent two nights in the hospital. My surgeon and his team were amazing from the moment I arrived. My husband stayed with me in the room and that was great because he was able to help me get to the restroom and just having him there was amazing.
I wanted to avoid the pain medication, but with I have realized they are a tool to help me get better. I spoke with my doctor and am using something that does not make me feel loopy or nauseous. Yesterday, I tried taking just one, instead of two every four hours and it is working well so far. I also need daily blood thinner shots. I was nervous about that, but the entire family has decided to help out. Truly I do not even feel them.
I have pretty good mobility. I can walk, go up
Eating is a new experience. It takes me 30 minutes to eat two tablespoons of Cream of Wheat and drink 1/2 cup of apple juice, both with Unjury unflavored Protein Powder. It is one swallow at a time, seeing how that goes, and then going forward. I've always been a fast eater, so this is all new to me. I've tolerated everything on the liquid diet well. I am going to try for puree foods starting next Thursday and then go one food item at a time.
I look at this as a journey. I am a teacher, so I do not have to rush back to work. Having said that, we are moving this summer and my oldest is heading to college. We are going to be busy. I will have to learn how my eating new normal on the road.

I am 5 days post surgery and doing great. It is a huge adjustment, but so worth it already. You will be fine. Trust your surgeon and his team. They are there to make sure you do well. After surgery, follow their advice. I am not a huge fan of pain meds. However, I learned to take them every 4 hours, not to let them lapse. Yesterday I started taking one pill instead of two and that works well for me. Walk as much as you can after. Eating becomes a long process. To eat 2 tablespoons of cream of wheat takes me about 15 to 20 minutes, but I want to give my sleeve time to heal.
You will do great! Stay positive! I already feel so much better physically.

I had my sleeve done yesterday, May 8th. I had already shared my fears and concern 2 days prior as well. I am now awaiting my shuttle to head back to my hotel as we speak. So far I am having very, very little complications. The only issue I had was gas/CO2 level pains. But nothing that is intolerable. My experience, so far has been wonderful. My advice to you all is to remember why you were compelled to have the surgery in the first place. It is different for everyone of course. You have all come this far, and I believe probably the worst of it is over. I feel the worst part so far was the liquid diet prior to surgery. And most of you have already completed most of this part by now. For 24 hours after surgery all you can have is ice and Water. But what is so crazy is that at almost 24 hours post surgery with only water and ice, I'm not even hungry! food is not on my mind right now. And that is a first in over 25 years! You have all made it this far. Please believe me when I say, you've got this. You've made it this far, you've got this. Good luck to you all. If you have an experience even only half as good as mine was at the OCC with Dr. Ariel Ortiz, then you certainly will be glad you went through with the surgery.

Dr. Corvala is one of the great grandfathers of weight loss surgery! He taught many of the bariatric surgeons in Mexico as well as proctored many US surgeons back in the day. He's very highly respected and you're in fantastic hands. Please let us know how things go!

You have to do what's best for you. I had GERD and I had the sleeve done. I haven't had any heartburn or anything since surgery. I didn't even have the gas pain people speak of after surgery. So, not necessarily you will have had or heartburn after surgery. I think it's just based on you and how you treat you body afterwards.
