I haven't been on in a while and just see this post regarding surgeons in South Florida. My surgeon is Dr. De La Cruz with University of Miami. I had my surgery Feb. 2014 and have lost 218 lbs! Words will not describe how amazing he and his team truly are. I went to see all, and I mean ALL of the main bariatric surgeons in Miami before I chose Dr. De la Cruz! They have taken EXCELLENT care of me! The hospital staff and nurses are top notch! Please do yourself a favor and schedule a consult and go to their seminar!

LifesJourney reacted to Joann454 in "Side effects" of WLS
There have been some interesting side effects post op.
I care much more about myself.
I've cut my hair to my shoulders (I'm sure I kept it long to "hide").
I've had my nails and toes done.
I've bought new clothes, perfume, jewelry.
I've gone to the dentist and had some cosmetic work done along with a good cleaning.
All of this keeps compounding and helping my self esteem.
I laugh and smile more. I move more. I'm friendlier.
I wasn't expecting any of these side effects!

So, if it's a closed Facebook group it won't advertise, but if some searches the page it will show up that you're in the group.

Thank you for your responses! That relieves my stress a little bit. I hate the unknown.

LifesJourney reacted to PAstudent in 3 hr flight 2 weeks after surgery
At 2 weeks out you'll be fine
I had 2 flights 2 days out of surgery. I was extremely nauseated and a little bit out of it due to pain meds so my boyfriend wheeled me around the airports in a wheelchair. However, I easily would've been able to get through the flights and multiple airports at 1 week out.
If you've got long flights, what you may choose to do is bring little high Protein packs of Soup mix and ask your flight attendants for hot/warm Water if you feel like you need to consume something!

LifesJourney reacted to tabula in 3 hr flight 2 weeks after surgery
I flew from Dallas to San Francisco 2 weeks after surgery and was fine. I drank a Protein Shake before I went through security and then bought a bottle of Water before I boarded the plan.
Just get up a few times and walk the aisle.
I had no problems what's so ever and for the first time in a long time I didn't need an extender #howbowdah

LifesJourney reacted to Please in 3 hr flight 2 weeks after surgery
People travel 2 -3 days after surgery, so the flight isn't an issue, I'm 11 /12 weeks post op, I wouldn't have felt like a holiday at 2 weeks .... I felt okay, but I wanted to sleep a lot. I had highs and lows until 7 weeks of extreme fatigue, but Its all good now. I feel "normal" now. I'm not a person to take naps and definitely very private, but I found myself taking cat naps in my car In front of store parking lots (embarrassing , but I couldn't stay awake). Everyone's different though!
Im down 44 pounds in 11 weeks and I'm 9 pounds from my original goal of 170lbs, but I think I'll aim for 160 now. I'm 5'10". Started at 223lbs now 179lbs.

Sorry to hear that. You can do this. You're not the first and you will not be the last to have to be alone post op. Make sure you have filled your pain meds. Get you some gas ex, stool softner, crushed ice, shakes, and a few cans of broths and you will be just fine by the grace of God. You got this[emoji4]

LifesJourney reacted to Berry78 in No Weight Loss
It's called "the 3 week stall", happens to almost everyone during the first month. You are doing nothing wrong.. the scale just doesn't move for a week or two.
Stalls will happen regularly on your journey. And you'll notice your weight will fluxuate a bit too. Scale going up by a pound or three is normal. It soon goes back down.

LifesJourney reacted to triplethreat in Closing in on 1 year, plant based diet?
Hi all. I'm close to the 1 year mark for surgery. I'm at my goal weight and I'm working on my stretch goal (which has to do with fitness but will result in a few more lbs gone). Since surgery I've eliminated some foods (no fries since June of last year!) and I typically hit my Protein and carb goals. I've had great success but I find myself craving fruits and veggies and I don't have room for them. Two of my children are vegetarians and I've been giving serious thought of eliminating red meat, chicken from my diet. Much of my protein intake now is not animal-based so it would not be a huge stretch. I would love to hear from anyone who is at gw and has a plant-based diet. I'm looking at ways to figure out the transition as well as how to limit carbs...and cook for a blended family (omnivores and vegetarians!). I do cook now for the family but definitely could expand my menu.

LifesJourney reacted to XmeghannstarX in June 13th sleeve mate needed!
Looking for another person who is being sleeved June 13th that I can really connect with so we can support each other: snap chat, texts, messages whatever!
Only my husband and parent know I am doing this, and none of them have been through this. I am hoping to get a sleeve-mate so we can empathize and encourage each other!
About me: I am 31 year old female, married, no kids (one furbaby dog) and live in the Midwest. I love traveling, adventure, and animals. I have a bachelors degree and a full time corporate job working in digital e-commerce. I am a foodie (ironic?, I think not.) And I love cooking and all types of cuisine.
Feel free to reply or PM me if you are a June 13th-ER or close and think we may hit it off!
