    What the hell?!?
No, no shaving required. No shaving done.
Why in the world are you required to shave your pubic hair?
Out of curiosity, has any male patient ever been required to shave his pubic hair prior to laparoscopic surgery?

Very interested in knowing your surgical teams reason for being so adamant about a shaved vagina for an abdominal surgery. I am an RN and have never heard of or seen that.

I would like to say thank you to each and every one of you who commented on this topic, but I haven't learned the ropes yet on these electronic things (over 50 LOL). Everyone had fantastic input and covered everything I needed to give them the response and provide me the support I needed to get to the finish line.
I see my NUT and surgeon next Thursday and while it has been 4 months since I last saw them, I will be able to go in to this appointment a little more reassured that I am doing the right thing by continuing on my journey to the finish line.
I'll keep you posted on the outcome. Rally on!

My hubby has said the same thing.... don't lose anymore please! Then he stops himself and says you know what-- Do what you feel is best for your body. He tells me he thinks I look great-- and that he just doesn't want me to lose the stuff he likes... I had friends 30 lbs ago tell me to stop right there. Don't sweat it. We're here to maximize this tool to the best of our abilities. If you want to work out, get fit, toned keep your heart strong and such go for it!!! Your body will let you know when you're there.

Sometimes men forget that not everything is about them... him being happy with you is distinctly different then you being happy with you. I would just be honest about the way you feel... you should go for your goals! Congrats on doing so well and I hope you can get the hubby to get on board.

I'm close to 210 now (at 6'0"). When I say that I want to lose about 30 more pounds, most people remark "why?", but I just tell them that at this point, it is mostly in my belly and thighs (which it is).
The other thing, for me, is that my partner (who has lost 115 pounds himself) is a little bothered by the fact that I will soon weigh the same or less than him. I have always been at least 50 pounds more than him, even years and years ago before we had both gotten so big. He is and has always been super supportive of my journey, but it is an adjustment for us.
The bottom line is that I started this journey to fix a health issue and it is going to keep going until I get where I need to be.

My now ex husband told me that... and then cancelled the gym membership. Said i was "skinny enough"..... I've had family and friends say.... how much more do you want to lose? I tell them... my body will tell me when.
Keep focused and do you and forget the rest....

I've heard many times on this site that people don't recognize a "healthy" weight anymore, because so many people are overweight.
If your goal is a healthy BMI and your doctor supports it, I would just tell them that. They may just need some time to adjust to the new you.
ETA: you mentioned your face looking tired and sagging, this could be causing their concern too. Are you getting enough Water? I have the same look sometimes, but noticed my face looks much much better if I am well hydrated.

I'm still in the pre-op phase so I don't have first hand experience but I'm reminded of something my psychologist said. As we loose weight, we will change and our relationships with family and friends may become strained. They are going to need some time to adjust to the new person you are becoming and they may put up barriers to stop you because they are uncomfortable.
I do remember the one time I lost a large amount of weight. I went from 200 to 170 and I was fitting into size 14 jeans for the first time in a decade. It was awesome but I too felt like something was wrong. I still saw myself as fat. I couldn't believe the clothes fit. I actually became really uncomfortable with myself and it wasn't much longer before I started eating and putting the weight back on plus an additional 30 just for the extra comfort.
I'm a huge advocate of talking to a therapist. Maybe you can bring your husband into the conversation. Maybe they are having real concerns about your weight loss or maybe they are just feeling the change and are putting up boundaries. But it sounds like you might be struggling with your new body image as well. You don't have to worry alone.

I'm 5 days post op and on liquids. Honestly, I'm not even interested in anything else. It's easier to not want food than I thought it would be.

I thought I would give everyone my update since my sleeve surgery on the 6th. First of all, I think I have the best surgeon in the world. In addition to being a great surgeon, he is so kind and nice, which makes the experience all the better. My pain and gas were minimal. I ended up having to have 7 scopes put in so my stomach has been sore and I ended up having a huge bruise about the size of a softball which is still quite prevalent, but other than that I'm doing great. I actually went back to work 5 days post op. I didn't take any pain medication after the third day post-op. For those of you who are worried and scared, I understand your apprehension, but don't worry. You will be fine. Follow your doctor's orders, drink your fluids as prescribed and you will do great!

Find someone to drive you home from the hospital.
Do you have help with your kids? Do you have a plan in case of complications?
The preop diets vary according to surgeons. No biggie having differences. The post op diet is super-duper important. Life or death stuff.
Try various Protein powders and shakes, but don't stock up because your tastes might change after surgery.

Hi everyone! I've been a bit MIA since surgery. Have been trying to stay busy and have definitely been self reflective. Everything went well, but wow, what a surreal experience- probably because I traveled to Mexico for mine.
I was exhausted after the surgery and slept a lot. Had some nausea and pain (not too severe) for the first few days with a bit of dry heaving and one successful foamy vomit. Was up and walking the same day. The following day I walked about a half mile. The day after that I went to the San Diego Zoo, used a wheel chair off and on and also got a sunburn to add to my situation. 😎
I would say the first day I felt great was on the 5th day. Only had pain at the incisions and some bubbly guts, especially when I tried to drink Water too quickly.
All in all, considering I had most of my stomach removed, it's pretty incredible how quickly I'm healing. Each day is an improvement. The incisions are small which is a plus.
As far as hunger, ghrelin is one hell of a hormone. I literally still do not feel hungry at all. I do get "head" hungry and had a few moments of despair, beginning with being in Mexico and not able to eat tacos. I'm also going through weird cravings, like just a few moments ago I really wanted a sandwich with crunchy pickles. I thought about chips and queso several times yesterday. chocolate cake sounds too good to even think about, but sometimes I'll look at food and get grossed out. It's a whole new world. Sometimes I'll think I'm getting hunger pangs but it's actually just gas. Once it moves around and disappears, the feeling goes away.
I do have to keep reminding myself to stay hydrated. All in all, everything is good. Now, I need to go buy a scale! I haven't had one in years for fear that I might accidentally trip and fall on it and see my weight. It's strange to be excited to track it now.
Good luck to all the April and future sleevers!

I also had surgery on the 13th of April. It didn't take long. I was up and walking that evening. Slowly but surely. The following day I didn't need any extra pain medication. I did have to take carafate. An anti acid and make it easier to swallow. But thankfully yesterday or today I haven't taken anything else. I'm glad everything is working out on your end. I'm feeling good. It's hard to get one premiere Protein Shake in a day
It's 3pm and I got one down plus 24 oz of Water. I'm literally sipping on that or water all day. My mouth is like cotton mouth still. I hope everybody else is going well. Good luck to those that haven't had surgery. Don't give up. We are all different and some heal faster than others. Much love to you all!
