  1. I had my lap band prodedure on March 6th. I felt really good after the surgery, I had no complications other than I got tonsilitis during recovery and couldn't keep anything down. That was a pain but I feel better now. I have my first follow up appointment with my doctor this Thursday so I am excited to see how much weight I have lost. Does anyone know what is the typical amount of weight loss? I am having major issues staying just on the liquid diet, I could kill for something to chew on. I am not a fan of the protein shakes, they make me really sick so I really need to find something that I can use that will get me my protein. Any suggestions?

    Week 1 down

It actually went really good this time. No passing out or anything. It has been two weeks since the fill and I still can't eat anything without throwing up so I have been trying to still stay on fluid and mashed stuff, which is getting old really quick. I have lost 41 pounds so far so I am very happy about that. I don't go back to the doctor until June 2nd, which is 6 weeks from my first fill so I figure I will be ready for my second fill when I go back. I know how you feel about the weight. I have been overweigh as long as I can remember. I know I have a long way to go but at least now I can see light at the end of the tunnel. I have about 140 pounds left to go but I know I will get there eventually. Congratulations on your big weight loss, you will have to keep me up to date.

    Would It Kill Me....

I have no idea what your response means, but I do know that my band has not slipped. I just went to the doctor and they used an XRAY so I know everything is ok, thanks for your concern.

    Would It Kill Me....

That is funny because I didn't test the waters as you say. I actually was behing according to my doctor on when I could start puree and solid food, but according to this website I was ahead. When I went to my first appointment my doctor told me I should have been eating puree for about a week and I was still on liquid. When I got on this site, it said I should still have been on liquid for another week. I guess every doctor is different and people need to understand that.

    Would It Kill Me....

I started my pureed food early and I have started my real food early and it didn't hurt me at all. I was only eating about 4 ounces of soup at a time but you learn really quick what agrees with you and what doesn't. Now I know what I can and can't have. I can't have hash browns, chinesse, or pizza. All of it has made me throw up. I say give the soup a try and if it makes you sick, don't eat it again. Like I said, you can only go on those protein shakes for so long before you need real food.
  6. I was the same way. After surgery I was miserable. My insicions were so painful and I was getting these shooting headaches that almost knocked me out. I called the doctor and they told me it might because the fluid I was drinking was too cold. They said it was like a brain freeze. I started drinking room temperature fluid and was still getting the headaches. I realized that it was the pain medication that they gave me that was causing the headaches. I stopped taking it and the headaches went away, of course I still had the surgery pain but it was far more tolerable. Then three days after surgery I got tonsilitis. I couldn't drink anything because it hurt so bad. My temperature got up to 104 and they told me they were going to have to put me in the hospital on an IV to keep me hydrated. The doctor gave me a steroid shot and in a couple days I was better. My first appointment after surgery I lost 27 pounds. I was so excited, then I started on puree and on my next appointment I gained a pound. They tried to do a fill and I passed out twice and they couldn't find the tube so they poked me 21 times. I had to reschedule and my appointment in on Monday, I am scared to death. I just started exercising last week because I am no longer in pain. I feel so much better just after 26 pounds. I know deep down that I made the right decision for my life but it is hard for the first couple weeks especially when things keep going wrong. Just be careful, take it one day at a time and think of all the positives.
  7. That is pretty cool. I got to see a picture of my band after it was in place, but they kept it and didn't give me a copy. All I know is that I am scared to death to go back on Monday. I don't ever want to have that feeling again and I sure don't want to pass out again. My worst fear is that they will never be able to do an adjustment and I would have wasted all that money for nothing. My insurance wouldn't cover it so I have to pay myself, that is a big chunk of money to pay out to never have an adjustment done.
  8. That is funny because I went in for my fill last week and the doctor could not even find my tube. We ended up having to try it in front of an Xray machine and he still never found it. By the time he got done jabbing me and poking me I got so sick that I passed out so I rescheduled the fill for next Monday. Has anyone else had this type of problem?

    Week 1 down

I have been to the doctor twice already also. The first time was just to check my stitches and I lost 27 pounds so I was pretty happy. Last week I went for my second appointment and had gained a pound. I was really disappointed. I had the same problem you were having, I felt like I was hungry all the time and I felt like I was eating a lot more. He tried to do the fill in the office and I passed out twice. It was the weirdest thing. He said he thought I was dehydrated and rescheduled my fill for the 21st. He told me to make sure I ate in the morning and drank juice right before I came in. I think it was because he poked me 21 times and never did find the port so it was really starting to hurt. I have done better this week. I still feel hungry but I am trying to eat more often just little portions. I am now on regular food and it fees great. There have been a few things that I have not been able to tolerate and have thrown up but I just stay away from those things. My big problem is gettin my fluid down. I can't seem to get enough fluid down me. I have started drinking decaf tea and now and then I have some powerade so that is helping a little. Congratulations on the 30 pound weight loss, you will have to let me know if the fill helped with the hunger and the weight loss. When do you go back to the doctor again?

I know what you mean about the broth. I was on a liquid diet for 5 days before the surgery and I tried to get that down and it didn't work too well. How long has it been since you have had the surgery, and if you don't mind me asking, how much weight have you lost?
