  1. It's normal to be scared before surgery. Try not to let it overwhelm you. At this point, you've seen a number of doctors that approve this surgery for you and you've done some prep work. You're ready and should do fine. If you back out now I believe you will regret it later and gain even more weight. Good luck!
  2. How did surgery go 3 days ago? Thinking of you and wishing you a fast recovery.
  3. Note that cola beverages have been associated with low bone mineral density in women due to the fact that they have phosphorus, which can increase the loss of calcium from the body through the kidneys. Another reason to consider to limit your consumption of cola drinks/soda.
  4. Have you read the threads about stalls post-WLS? If not do a search and you'll find lots of people have experienced a 3 week stall after surgery. What can you do? Continue to follow your surgeon's plan, get in your fluids and Protein everyday and don't cheat. You can do this; keep the faith!
  5. Looking good! Congrats on your weight loss success thus far!
  6. Your commitment to the process is amazing; losing weight ahead of surgery should set you up for continued success! You should be very proud of yourself! Good luck today!
  7. My surgeon said the shakes do count towards daily fluid levels. Another example of different guidance per program .
  8. I add Unjury unflavored protein powder to Premier Protein drinks to supercharge the amount of protein. I also add it to soups but make sure to keep the temp under 140 degrees. I've even added it to yolk mixture when I make deviled eggs.
  9. I like the Road ID bracelets.
  10. I don't drink carbonated drinks at all. Nor do I drink beverages that contain artificial sweeteners as they lead to weight gain (based on results from many scientific studies) and the chemicals have no nutritional value.
  11. Pouch reset is a fad diet and doesn't actually "reset" your pouch. A better approach is to track what you're consuming, focus on eating dense protein first and then vegetables. Also, don't drink your calories, minimize snacking, and stop eating simple carbs & processed food. Good luck!
  12. I arrived in San Diego the day before surgery (on Sunday), spent 3 days in hospital, 2 days post-op at a fabulous hotel in TJ, 1 day at a friend's place in So Cal, then flew back home on Sun evening. 1 week total. I was taken care of really well by my surgeon and his nurse, driver, and office mgr. It was a mini-vacay after the 2nd day post-surgery.
  13. I eat a tablespoon of coconut oil a day. A colon rectal surgeon recommended it to help with constipation.
  14. I was only sent home with omeprazole (PPI). I didn't need pain or nausea medicine. I was in the hospital for 3 days and used a pneumatic compression system while in-patient to reduce DVT risk, plus I walked around a bunch.
  15. I live in a US state that supports legal marijuana. I'm not a smoker but occasionally partake in edibles, usually half a gummy bear. For me, it helps with osteoarthritis pain. I waited 8 weeks after surgery to start consuming them again; 1-3 times a week.
  16. I haven't vomited at all since GB surgery. Nor was I allowed solid food until 4 weeks post-op. Your experience thus far is troubling. Are you taking very small bites and chewing your food more than normal?
  17. I stayed 3 nights, which I was happy about. I was especially glad to have the IV in so I didn't have to worry about or risk dehydration right after surgery. I also had no nausea or pain as it was very well managed in the hospital.
  18. Are you walking? That really helps alleviate gas post-surgery. As well, make sure you're drinking at least 64 oz of water/fluids a day.
  19. I highly recommend Dr. Ramos Kelly in Tijuana. He has done some of his medical training in the US, including at USC and as a trauma surgeon at LA County Hospital. I had surgery in April 2017 and have had no complications. He visited me twice a day in the hospital and then each day in the TJ hotel I stayed at after leaving the hospital. I'm in So Cal and took the train to San Diego where Dr. Kelly's driver picked me up. It was a great experience and I'm losing weight! I couldn't be happier with my decision!
  20. Pouch reset is a fad diet and does not "reset" your stomach. Instead, go back to eating dense protein first then veggies. As well, do not drink your calories, don't eat processed food, minimize carbs except for complex ones, and try not to use artificial sweeteners as they can increase cravings and sweet consumption. Are you weighing your food and tracking everything you eat with a journal or app like MyFitnessPal? If not, get back into that habit. And make sure you're drinking at least 64 oz of water a day. Good luck!
  21. If you're only drinking 20 oz of water a day you're dehydrated, which can lead to serious issues. Your main goal should be to up your fluid intake and it should make you feel much better. Right now, , this is more important than calories and protein consumed.
  22. Congrats on GB surgery. I recommend you don't focus on averages or other people's weight loss as everyone is different and how much you lose the first 1-3 months is not indicative of what your overall results will be. Instead, focus on following your surgeon's plan and making progress on the issues that lead to weight gain. Good luck!
  23. After surgery the sodium content in V8 is not as big a concern because people are low in sodium and dehydrated. My doctor said it was ok to consume. Since I wasn't drinking much in general I didn't find it a deterrent to weight loss.
  24. The problem isn't losing weight, it's maintaining weight loss. Only 5% of people are successful at that. Please know that you now have an amazing tool to achieve long term weight loss! You will feel better soon and regrets should subside. Good luck!
