Ketogenic diet post sleeve?
I have decided to stick with this way of eating long term also. It works well with my desire to keep my blood sugars normal without medications. I feel really great so I don't really see a need to change what is working. Most days I am under 20g net carbs and I have zero cravings for them now. I am still researching this type of diet and I have a lot to learn still.

May 15th, 2017 Sleevers Check in Here!!!
Congrats on your weight loss @queenbee88. Probiotics are beneficial bacteria that usually reside in our intestines that help us digest foods. They are in yogurt and you can also buy them in capsule form.

I have been thinking about doing this and your post just sealed the deal. I know anytime I take antibiotics it upsets my system terribly. It makes perfect sense. Thank you for posting this. I am still not as regular as I want to be so maybe this will help. What is on the menu today ? i had coffee for breakfast because I wasn't hungry and egg salad for lunch. I am going to make fried red cabbage with onions and turkey bacon tonight. It will be my first time eating cabbage so I hope my sleeve agrees with it because I love it. I will grill some steak to go with it. I hope everyone is having a good day.

WLS for a sugar/carb addict and binger?
True we all ate too much, but I would argue that there are important differences. Some people are sugar addicts, some carb addicts, some just had portion problems. Some have actual binge eating disorders. I don't know if you are binge eating or not. I would talk to your surgeon. Most programs have information meetings and physc evaluations that would be able to help determine what your issues are. I think we can all be successful if we identify what our problems are and work through them while using the surgery as a tool to help us.

WLS for a sugar/carb addict and binger?
The last sentence of your post actually reinforces what @blizair09 said that you seemed offended by. His post was directed at someone considering the VSG who has food addictions. He was stating the facts so that they could be well informed that the sleeve is not going to work unless they change their relationship with foods. He stated the most likely reasons why people regain weight, and your own post says that the sleeve does not stop you from overeating. Bingo.... we have to stop ourselves. We need to figure out what we as individuals need to do to prevent ourselves from falling back into the same habits that got us fat in the first place. I am only 5 weeks post-op so I need to be paying attention to the advice of others who have been successful. That doesn't mean I will do everything exactly like they did, but I will most definitely listen to their plainly stated facts and apply them where they can help me to succeed. I think we need to practice being honest with ourselves regarding areas of our eating habits that need to change. Obviously blizair has figured out what works for him, and I hope to do the same.

lol... it has been years since I have used my bra to hold cash ? Glad to hear you had a good day with your dad. I had a nice day with my hubby. We did some chores around the house and I cooked him his favorite dinner, grilled salmon. So glad I am off tomorrow.

Are you getting enough protein in? Most plans have a goal of 60-80g of protein daily and 64oz of water or other fluids. I know if you aren't staying hydrated or eating enough protein it can cause fatigue. Are you taking vitamins? That is essential also. I think if you feel you need light duty it is a good idea to ask for it.

Need some encouragement
You can do this !!! You are almost there. Just keep remembering why you are doing this. Imagine yourself as you want to be a year from now.

WLS for a sugar/carb addict and binger?
If you have never had WLS before you haven't had the advantage of the metabolism reset or the lowered hunger hormone Ghrelin. It will definitely help you, but you will still have to do the mental work.

WLS for a sugar/carb addict and binger?
It will only help if you do the work necessary to change your relationship with food. See the replies above. you can definitely make this work if you want to.

WATER INTAKE
I was a big water drinker also. I always had a water bottle with me and even on my nightstand so I could drink during the night. I was one of the unlucky ones that had a taste change. Water does not taste the same to me. I drink flavored vitamin water and diet green tea now. I also could not handle cold liquids for the first 2 weeks. I am one month out and I can drink cold now, but plain water still doesn't taste the same. I can drink larger sips now, almost normal, but I can't chug anything yet.

Severe abdominal pain when inhaling and rapid heart rate
I would see your surgeon ASAP. I am amazed they just sent you home with antibiotics.

Bread is a big no no after the sleeve. It will expand and fill you up. Crackers and chips are slider foods that you will be able to over eat on. They turn to mush in your stomach and slide right on through. Some people are able to train themselves to eat just a small amount of those things, but if they are a trigger for you I would avoid them if you want to be successful long term.

WLS for a sugar/carb addict and binger?
I would start addressing your food addictions now before surgery. I would get a referral to a therapists that specializes in these areas. The surgery will be a tool to help you, it will reset your metabolism, but you will still have to make the choice to stay on your diet plan. You need to get in the right mental frame of mind. This is a lifestyle change for life, not a diet. You have to chose to want to develop healthy eating and exercise habits. There are many successful examples of people that have beat their food addictions on this forum. The way to conquer them has been different for everyone, but for me avoiding the foods that I know will cause me to slip up is working. I avoid simple carbs completely. I have decided to stick with a low carb way of eating indefinitely. It works for me. You can do this if you go all in, and make perminate changes to your relationship with food.

How long after surgery did you start to lose weight?
I think this going to be different for everyone. For me I had my surgery done in Mexico so it was a week after surgery the first time I stepped on a scale and I was down 8 pounds. I lost 18.5 the first month. Most people will hit a stall somewhere during the first month.

Hi @queenbee88. There is a forum specifically for sharing recipes on this site. Pinterest is another good place. Also if you google recipes for WLS you will find many. I hope this helps. What stage does your plan have you at now? How are you doing overall?

Total Calories or Net Calories
Yes I would agree. I wonder if my elliptical over estimates calories burned? It also syncs my workouts with my tracking app. I have decide to just go by total calories when considering my intake.

Days in Mexico pre and post surgery?
That is the very reason why I decided to fly in the day before. I didn't want to be on a long flight not being able to drink anything. For people with long flights I would definitely recommend arriving the day before.

Days in Mexico pre and post surgery?
I flew in the day before, had my surgery on Monday, stayed in the hospital till Wednesday, at the hotel till Friday morning. We spent Friday and Saturday in SanDiego and flew home on Sunday. I was walking pacific beach and we went to Sea World. I just walked slowly and rested when I needed to.

Thank you @Newme17. My dh said the same. We went to our daughters house for dinner. She made Chilli for him for Father's Day and it was a little spicy. My sleeve handled pretty well no heartburn yet... we will have breakfast in bed tomorrow ?

diabetes meds after surgery?
I was on 2000mg metformin and 1.2 ml of Victoza and I haven't taken any since that day before my surgery. My bs are completely normal. I haven't had any bs above 110 and my fasting bs is almost always in the 80's. I have read that this happens more often for people that were diabetic less than 5 years and not on insulin. However any reduction in meds would be great.
