    Incision pain

I'm a month out and still having mild pain at the large incision when I sneeze or get out of bed. As long as your pain is gradually decreasing instead of increasing you're on the right path, it just may take longer for some people.
  2. Month 1 is in the books!! 17lbs lost since surgery, 32lbs down in total. I am so happy with my progress. I have a long way to go, but I am so psyched to see a loss this big on the scale. It's been years since I've seen any real loss at all. Goal for this month is to work on increasing my activity. Let's do this!!!

Congratulations! 17Lbs is such a great start!! I hope I do as well and stay as positive as you after my first month. Keep up the good work, and I bet it will keep giving you good news like that :)

    WATER INTAKE

I was a big plain water drinker pre-op. Post op plain water makes me nauseous. I've tried drinking it warm and cold, both times I take a few sips and get hit with nausea. I get my fluids in by drinking flavored water now. I wish it wasn't necessary, but it is what it is...
  4. Happy Friday!! I bought a case of isopure protein water in the punch flavor and am not crazy about it. I liked the blue raspberry, but wanted to change the flavor up. Hopefully I'll get used to it, but I guess I'm gonna have to power through 12 bottles of this stuff. Ahh.. the things you do for protein...

I'd definitely be interested to know how the coconut flavor is. I like being able to get the 40g of protein from them. Really hoping I'll warm up to the punch flavor because I am too cheap to throw these puppies away!

I bought three it bottles of that stuff and I drank one sip and I knew I wouldn't be able to drink them...😝

I still have two bottles in my refrigerator.

The coconut? :( If so that is disappointing!

  5. It's tough getting the fluids in the first week. I was drinking about 40oz per day my first week. It was all I could tolerate. The stomach gurgling and growling is normal. During my first week I'd have gurgling at just about every sip. They went down as my tolerance got better. The way I kept track of my fluids was to set a timer every time I sipped. At first, I believe I was taking 5mins between sips (I was in the hospital getting fluids so at least I was meeting fluid goals that way), and as the week went on I set my timer to 4mins, 3mins, 2mins, etc. And if you're gonna ask, yes, my phone timer was constantly going off the first 2 weeks after surgery, I just set the volume down so it wouldn't be too annoying. I'm 3 weeks out now and get gurgles now if I take too large of a gulp, drink too quickly, or if I introduce new foods. Just take it slow. If you really can't get your fluids in call your surgeon's office and let them know.
  6. What are they going to do about the fluid collection? Are you on antibiotics? That would probably need to be resolved first. As far a second opinion on the gallbladder it wouldn't hurt if you are not sure about going through surgery. There's a risk of stones migrating out of the gallbladder and causing complications, but you need to discuss this with a surgeon and come to your own conclusion.

    Pre Surgery Liquid Diet

That sounds like a great idea. I have vanilla premier protein shakes and might start doing the same thing. Thanks for the suggestion!
  8. Hiatal hernias are typically repaired with the sleeve surgeries, but are you sure you have a hiatal hernia? These hernias slide up through the diaphragm. The location you describe sounds more like an umbilical hernia.

    Sharp or pulling pain

Is the sharp pulling pain on the right side, where the large incision was? I had that and was also warned by my surgeon it would happen and is normal.

    Insurance Appeal

I work in insurance and see denial decisions overturned in appeals all the time. Always worth a shot.

    Pain

I stopped taking narcotic pain meds on day 3, and stopped all pain meds after week 1. Any pain after that was just momentary on my incisions if I moved the wrong way. I'm 3weeks post op and only feel an occasional twinge of pain with movement, however, I still wear my abdominal binder when I'm walking because the movement makes my incisions sore.
  12. Are you just asking for the time off, or filling out FMLA paperwork? If your Dr fills out paperwork saying you need time off for medical reasons and FMLA is approved for you, I'm not sure HR would still be able to ask questions like this, but really not sure. If you're not, I'd recommend filling out the official paperwork.
  13. Increasing my meals from 4-5x/day went very well. The portions are smaller, so I don't feel as run down after eating, and I had more time to drink my fluids instead of rushing in the evening to get the rest down. Hooray for successful experiments :D

  14. I respect anyone's decision on whether or not they want to go public with their WLS, but I am a private person. Right now, I wanna focus on me and do not have the patience to explain the ins and outs of my sleeve to a bunch of lookie-loos. 99.9% of the questions I would have to deal with would be a waste of time. Just people being nosey. I don't want people asking me questions about what I'm eating, how much I can eat, how I feel while I'm still trying to figure that out for myself. I don't want to have to field ignorant questions from people who have no interest in the surgery. I don't want people to stare at me while I eat. I don't want to feel pressured by people to drop major poundage and the drop of a hat. I don't want people to immediately think that there is something inherently wrong with weight loss surgery if I ever happen to be stalled. Weight loss makes the people around you turn weird as it is, and I want to minimize the weirdness as much as possible. If anyone wants to be open about it then more power to you. I prefer to focus on my journey, and try to be helpful to the people I know are going through the same thing I am. Just because you have surgery, does not mean you are obligated to put yourself out there and be a stigma buster. I had to overcome my own ignorance regarding WLS as I researched whether this is right for me. If you asked me even 6 months ago whether I wanted to have WLS I would have said no. but I did my research and promised myself if anything ever felt wrong I would stop immediately and find another way. I can be open on an anonymous board, but I do not want to deal with it IRL. Just like any other surgery, no one is obligated to publish their personal health history to a bunch of nosey people.
  15. I'm considering changing up my eating schedule. I currently eat 4 times a day, but may decrease my portions and increase my frequency to 5x/day. I feel like my meals are too large and experience quite a bit of pressure after my meals. We'll see how it goes...

    Slow losing....

Yes... me too. I have had so many scale disappointments over the years, weighing myself is always a distressing experience for me. Just said this in another post, but I'll say it again - stay off the scale for the first month. I'd hate for all of the progress I've made outside of the scale could potentially be undermined simply because my body might be hanging onto water weight the day I decided to weigh myself. Focus on your water, protein, and activity. Your body is mending itself which tends to cause water retention, if your muscles are sore, that causes water retention, hormones, salt... there are just too many variables right now.

    Overweight Failure

Hi there, first off, please don't beat yourself up like this. You had surgery to better your health, and this is not an easy or smooth process. We still have our temptations and bad habits to overcome. The sleeve helps in that you can only eat so much at once, but we have to put our own work in. If you do mess up, just know what's done is done. The best thing you can do is recover ASAP and learn what you can from it. What caused you to break your diet and what can you do to avoid it in the future? Negative self-talk may lead you down a path of sabotaging yourself. Regarding the scale, I agree with advice others have posted to stay off the scale the first month. There is just too much going on and you are most likely not getting accurate readings. Just focus on meeting your goals staying active. I'm at 3 weeks out as well and I definitely feel hunger and temptation now. The good thing is that as soon as I eat a few spoonfuls of my meal, it immediately goes away. So maybe the temptation you feel is just a signal that it's time to eat your regular food? Or maybe you're behind on fluids - sometimes that can mimic hunger. Just a couple of things to consider. Stay focused and be good to yourself

    Just begin post op

It's a good thing they kept you. I had the something similar - BP was 150-160/90-100, pulse was 55-60 consistently throughout my hospitalization. By my 2-week follow up appointment my BP was down to 114/66.
  19. Premier Protein drinks and Isopure unflavored protein powder are my current favorites. I also drink Isopure protein water. It has a bit of an aftertaste, but you get used to it.
  20. Today marks 3 weeks post op :D I already can't believe all the changes that have occurred. I still have my ups and downs energy wise, sometimes I get a little attitude from my sleeve when I take too big of a spoonful at once, but I'm happy that I'm tolerating foods well and I'm continuing to slowly progress my diet.

I was thinking today about how just a few days before my surgery I was contemplating whether or not I should even go through with it. At that point, I was thinking maybe I could do all this on my own (even though I have been trying to lose weight for the last several years and have done nothing but gain weight). Well, it's been 3 weeks now and I have followed my diet to a T. Although I've had some junk food "fantasies", I have never been tempted to actually break my diet. Preop, the longest I could last was a few days, 4 days max, and I'd break and order grubhub. Yes, the sleeve is a tool, but right now it has been instrumental in my ability to stay on point. I would never have been able to do this pre-op. Trust me, I've tried!

I'm happy it's working out for you hon. The longer we go without the fantasies, the easier it'll be to just disregard them. One thing I've always noticed though. In my pre-op days, I ate pretty healthy even before the journey, but when I would stick to it for a while and then have myself something fried, etc. I immediately felt sick. Like throw up sick. So, I can only assume that it'll be the same with us now. We're going so long without all of that mess and if we decided to have some, our bodies won't want it. That's the only rejection I like. :)

    I'm scheduled!

That's great! It's gonna go by much faster than you think. Use this time wisely and before you know it, you'll be on the slab with a gas mask on you
  22. The requirement is within 15 calendar days, but most people hear back sooner than that.
  23. I'm 3 weeks post-op now and definitely still dealing with fatigue. The first two weeks I could barely walk a quarter of a block and had to turn back home because I was getting dizzy. It's been gradually getting better, but slowly. I'm walking 1-1.5miles a day now. Fatigue is very common and normal, especially with you being 2 weeks out. It's important to get activity, but don't push yourself too hard. This isn't a race, you're healing, and we're eating a low amount of calories. Hang in there, it's gonna take some time.
  24. 3 weeks post op tomorrow... yay!! Woke up dizzy this morning and I'm really not sure why. Been doing great with meeting and exceeding my water goals, but it could be the heat. 95 degrees outside as of right now B)

Still surprised that plain water is making my queasy. I really wish I didn't have to depend on flavorers to drink my water, but minor complaint overall. Made my queasiness worse when I drank some plain water and took my vitamins without any food. That, I learned, is a no-no for my sleeve. We're still getting to know each other...

Plain water making you queasy? I'm no sorry to hear that. I can't stand the flavorings for water myself. Pre-op I decided to try them...it was so-so. Post-op, my taste buds just can't stand them. So, I gave them all away.

I hope that feeling goes away for you though.
