  1. PSA:  Don't try to eat flank steak at Week #5, no matter how thinly it is sliced, how small the pieces are, or how much you chew them.  Just don't do it.

Oww. I still cannot eat much beef, even ground beef just does not sit well - feels so 'harsh' for lack of a better description.

  2. Eager to post some photographic evidence of my progress so far!  This week will mark the beginning of my fifth month post-op.  The before photos I weighed in at 280.1 the night before my surgery.  The after photos were taken today at my current weight, 229.8.

Some new NSVs include being a size 0 in Torrid dresses and finding my newly purchased size 18s are getting looser and looser.

  3. Well . . . I managed to gain 10 pounds during the three weeks I lived in a motel without my scale and cooking only with a microwave--not quite sure how that happened, but ugh. Have now stayed with a friend for a few weeks and lost it, and am back moving in the right direction. Total lost is 76 pounds. Would like to double that at least! Though, to be fair, the saggy skin thing does put me off a bit. Not enough to stop the process . . . I sure would enjoy being something close to normal.

  4. So yesterday, I did a dumb thing. I went to see the Dietitian and Therapist at my surgeons office and I was so anxious at the fact that I had not lost any more weight. I had forgot to eat since Thursday morning (It could have been that I subconsciously did it out of fear of being told I am not doing a job). I weighed in at 196 lbs and found out that I had lost 5 inches since my last visit which they were proud of. They gave me a much needed pep talk and I was ready to tackle on the world again.

I went to the gym (still had not eaten) and began my workout. My second set in and apparently I fainted. I know my trainer woke me up and apparently, I was trying to climb on the pull-up bars yelling, “I have to do the pull-ups” . Then in the Ambulance I am telling them that they are trying to hold me back from exercising and this is why our relationship will never workout . They tried to give me Oxygen and apparently I got rude with them and said, “I’m not paying $400 for **** that I can do naturally and for free.”

After some testing, I found out my blood pressure and sugar was very low and I was severely dehydrated as well.

Well 6 hours, $100 copay (probably hundreds in ER bills cause they will charge you for napping) and an annoyed mother later, the moral of the story is to remember to eat. Just eat. Don’t worry about the scale and the mind games it plays. Just eat. Now I am not saying junk food or anything like that but eat the healthy stuff. Don’t be afraid to.

I was so in my own head, that I forgot one of the most essential parts of living and that is fueling this body I have worked so hard for.

Oh wow! Glad you are okay (your ranting was funny though!). It is easy to forget to eat, be careful.

  5. At my WI this past Friday, I surpassed 60 lb total loss! That's 20% of my body weight from my highest weight this summer  I lost 20ish lbs before surgery, and another 40ish lbs since surgery. Happy to keep moving onward and DOWNward!

  6. It looks like a ton of forums were merged or moved. It makes it kind of difficult to see what is going on.

I agree that it's all harder to find specific threads within the 'gastric sleeve forum' and I do not like the changes at all. I come on here less and less because I have to wade through all the subheadings to find the ones pertaining to 'sleevers' as I can't relate to the other surgeries. I realize running a forum might be an IT nightmare but I still liked the other structure better.

  7. So I had a Kanye West moment recently. I went off on a rant. I got my scale it said that I had gained 8lbs in 1 day. How Sway!! How!!

I finally got the courage to video myself doing a workout. I am proud.

  8. My surgery is tomorrow and I’m going to cancel. I just don’t think I’m strong enough to handle all the stuff that goes along with this surgery. Thank you all for this wonderful group and I wish you well ❤️

You are not your friend, you are freaking out. You do not have the same pathology as your friend either. We all freak out, come down from the ledge. Take a deep breath, and think logically. This surgery is easier than a gall bladder surgery, being obese will affect your quality of life, think of the original decision to do this in the first place. Then if you still want to cancel, just postpone it until you can go to therapy and figure it all out. And you don't have to leave the forums. Good luck.

  9. Seeing how well I've done from the surgery so far has convinced my sister to move forward and start the process for RNY as well :) She's even heavier than my highest weight, and has more health issues than I do/did, so I know this will be a life changing journey for her. Soo excited for her journey, let alone mine! hahaha I'm going to my doc's free seminar again with her in a few weeks to be there for moral support. I've always said whatever she chose to do was fine, this surgery isn't for everyone. But I'm really glad that she wants to do it to better her health. Proud big sister over here :1295_raised_hands_tone1:

  10. I finally got my last weight loss reward. I have a fur for the winter to combat being cold all the time. I can't begin to express how much joy my new car and wardrobe bring me. I would have never comfortably fit into a sports car before losing weight, and it is nice to be able to wear a fur without being the size of an actual bear.

  11. 4 month surgirversary today!! I'm down 46.5 inches, 66 lbs, and only 16lbs to goal!!! I feel so great, I am so thankful for my sleeve!!

  14. Had my surgery on Friday 10/27 afternoon. I was doing so well in recovery that they released me after only one night in the hospital :) I've been super fortunate so far, only needing one pain pill in the hospital, and right now just taking liquid ibuprofen. I've been burping since the hospital, but today was my first day at home with protein shakes and finally started passing gas - yay! lol Most of my discomfort is from soreness from the surgery and gas pressure. No issues getting my protein shakes in and keeping them down. All of my docs were super happy with my recovery, and my surgeon said the procedure went perfectly. Here's to the start of my new life!:1310_thumbsup_tone1:

  16. Only 3 days away from this life-changing surgery, and I've started putting together a list of easy things I can do while I'm at home recovering. It has to be THE DUMBEST list of things I've ever put together, but here goes hahaha

    • Do all the needed post-op stuff: go for walks, use spirometer, take vitamins on time, eat/drink right, etc etc etc etc ...
    • Portion out vitamins for the week into 4x/day pill organizer
    • Copy all phone contacts into a spreadsheet, remove old contacts file from phone, double check remaining names against spreadsheet to ensure no one is missing
    • Pluck eyebrows
    • Catch up on YouTube channels I watch
    • Color in keepsake drawing of a tattoo I designed for a friend (I'll include a pic of the outline below :))
    • Write in penzu online journal
    • Play xbox games I've been neglecting
    • Prep and freeze food for first few days back at work

Anybody else have a list of mundane things they want/need to do while they are recovering at home?

And here's the sugar skull owl tattoo my friend requested I design for him. It'll be super colorful once he gets it done, and once I color in the keepsake drawing for him!

I made it!!! I have been in my private room since 10:46 am. I have walked twice, longer the second time. Pain tolerable w meds - 1000mg tylenol in IV, an anti-inflammatory, two little boost of dilaudid. Sat in chair for a couple hours, short nap. Will have swallow test tomorrow morning, then try sipping.

I have a nausea patch - scopolamine and it works for me, a little drowsy from it but I'll take that over the nausea.

  22. 3 Days out of surgery! Feeling ok.... working on getting my fluids in and walking. Trying not to take too many pain pills. I detest jello 😜 but love chicken broth. I’m down about 8 pounds already, not focusing on weight loss though, just getting better.

  23. After 7+ months, I have a surgery date of Oct 24 2017. Am over half way through the preop liquid diet. This has been VERY difficult for me. Nothing tastes good & I constantly feel nausious & lightheaded. I have lost 11lbs in 7 days on the preop diet. I am however, extremely excited to move to the next stage of my life. A much healthier one.
