I was sleeved yesterday and was a nervous wreck leading up to it. Tried to talk myself out of it. Wondered if I had rushed into it (I hadn't). Wondered if it was too extreme (it wasn't). Just basically second guessing everything.

Logically, I knew this was what's right for me. So I pushed through all the fear and second guessing. I feel really good today and hopeful for the future.

This is a big decision. Fear is normal. But that doesn't mean it is the wrong path.

You're very brave for saying that and for taking this step. I wish you so much health and happiness and look forward to cheering you on!

Thank you! I know that I NEED to do this. I have lost out on so much life because of my weight. (Never married, no kids of my own, low paying job, no confidance, health issues) I'm ready to live. And live pain free! I want to be there for my neices, (they are like my kids) without this surgery, I am only going to get older, fatter, and sadder. I'm so happy that you now have the life you want. I hope someday I will too.

Here's one more good story for you. I was such a mess before surgery. Very nervous and so, so scared. Four years and 4 months later, I am so happy that I had the nerve to go through with it! I can't imagine how much different my life would be today if I had chickened out that day. I live a VERY active life now and am very healthy and happy. Absolutely no regrets here! Good luck to you in June! You'll do great!

My surgery day is Thursday (!!), and I have to do a two-day clear liquid diet. Today is Day 1. I am drinking my Isopure. I had some tea and am planning on broth later today ...

    Any other ideas or favorites?

Nope, no problems! I was uncomfortable when I woke up and my stomach area felt tight and a little painful, but they gave me pain meds and I slept. Today, I feel much better.

Good luck in June - you've got this!

I love this thread! I most look forward to being physically comfortable in my body. I have a lot of pain and discomfort from my extra weight. I cannot wait to be free of it.

But I have to say, this post made me think that someday soon, I will be donating ALL my current clothes. The thought of throwing out an entire closet of fat clothes is pretty thrilling!

My health had been good, even being super heavy and diabetic, I didn't really have issues. Then it all started tumbling very fast and I was/am still a young person. Once I saw those dominoes tumbling, I decided to stop kidding myself and do something drastic. I didn't have anymore time to waste. I was seriously damaging my body. I realized I was at the point I wasn't going to die fast, but very slowly, painfully with a diminished quality of life.
I went from first visit to surgery in 8 weeks. If it wasn't for holidays and pre-op testing I could have done it in a month.
When I was being checked in and got on the gurney, I had already looked death in the face during my cardiac clearance to qualify for surgery. I had no fears being wheeled back. Either I would die that day in surgery, or pretty rapidly post-op from a complication and I was fine with that. I wasn't interested in 15 years of living like and old person because I love cheeseburgers and milk shakes.

I was scared of so many things. That's part of what makes us so strong to do this, it's actually terrifying for many of us on multiple levels. And yet we do it anyway. Because we are badasses.

I was very very scared... until suddenly I wasn't. It was so weird! I spent MONTHS beforehand agonizing, terrified I was going to leave my kids without their mother... then on the day before, when I thought I'd be my absolute worst, I was at total peace. I slept super well the night before and woke up that morning surer than anything. Which is very unusual because I have SO MUCH ANXIETY ABOUT EVERYTHING ALL THE TIME.
It is normal to be afraid. Talk to your team about your fears. On the advice of someone else in a bariatric forum, I asked my surgeon straight up if he'd had someone die of complications. He said no. Not that it was impossible, but that no, it hadn't happened. And then he knocked on wood LOL. My psychologist also listened to my "life after surgery" fears and was very reassuring that my fears were normal and to her, healthy because they showed I understood how much of a life altering decision I was making. Talking to people will help. Surrounding yourself with loved ones will help.
And if surgery day comes and you're a nervous wreck, you can always ask for an ativan

Hello all, I'm new here. Started the process over a year and a half ago, my husband was sent halfway across the country for work and I thought to myself, "Is it a responsible thing to do to have an elective surgery when I'm home alone with two kids? Probably not" So I bailed...
Now 5 months ago I started the process again. I was just submitted to insurance a couple weeks ago, received a denial because the surgeons office sent old nutrition info on accident from my first time around with them. I'm now in "reconsideration" with Cigna. Supposed to hear back on Friday. Nervous. Very nervous I won't be approved. Although I've done all they asked and I'm an ideal candidate in my surgeons opinion.
Happy to be here with you all!

There isn't a whole lot one can do other than suck it up for the day or two you have to do it (and be glad your doc isn't one to prescribe these things for weeks pre-op!) At least Dr. Burch has one of the saner pre-op programs. I'm not a big fan of the Isopure, but it is one of the few clear Proteins out there. When I have to do these things (like for colonoscopies or other such GI tests) I usually mix the Isopure into Jello so there is at least some consistency to play with. SF popsicles are another staple for these diets as well.
Good luck, and see you on the other side....

    Go to bed early

In all seriousness, just did mine and pretty much drank broth and tea. And I definitely went to bed early to hide from food!
