You only needed to lose 60 pounds? No way in hell Would I have this surgery for that amount of weight. I thought you had to be at least 100 or more overweight to even qualify for it. I would cancel.

Hi I'm a 34 yr old mom of two young kids and my surgery is scheduled for August 2017! Im excited and super nervous at the same time. Just wanted to see if anyone else was getting surgery in August too?

I am scheduled for surgery on August 16. When I look up the projected weight loss it says 60%-70% of excess weight. However, when I look on forums it shows that people are actually losing more weight then the 60%-70%. Does anyone know why?

Has anyone here had surgery who has Medicare?
If so how long did you have to wait to get surgery once you were approved? All I had to do was have a psychology evaluation and fill out some paperwork and get my doctor to write a letter - The hospital said I am automatically approved but I am wondering how long will it be until I have surgery once that is submitted to Medicare. Has anyone gone through The process with Medicare before in this group and how did it go for you?

I got my approval from my insurance company today I am so excited! My next step is to make an appointment for a consultation with my surgeon.

I never could relate to this either, so I understand. When I look at elective cardiac bypass surgery or PTA in your limbs - there are no six months waiting periods in which you have to prove you've tried radically changing your nutrition, stopped smoking and exercised regularly (at least not in the country I live in).

No, because they think us fatties are too dumb and not responsible enough to know about nutrition and exercise before applying for surgery.

While I agree that surgery should be taken seriously I'm not sure how anyone can learn something new regarding nutrition, exercise and coping mechanisms when surgery is supposed to be the last resort. Last resort means (at least it's the way I understand it): you have tried anything else and this includes the stuff they're going to tell you during these six months!
If you can learn something new about nutrition, exercise and coping mechanisms during this waiting period: well, you didn't try everything else before applying for surgery...
If these six months about "being prepared for surgery" - I guess a few evenings of information how things will be after surgery should be enough to take care of this.

I'm pissed. I've had to go through the motions for five months now for my six month waiting period before I can have surgery, which is scheduled for April 17th. I'm pissed because everything I learned from the nutritionist, I had learned before on the million other diets I've tried and the forums I've read. She told me that most people, at the end, say that they are so happy that they had this time to learn and prepare. I'm not. I'm just pissed that I had to wait.

My mother did not have to wait for six months before her breast cancer surgery so she could learn to live with breast cancer.

My niece did not have to wait for six months before receiving insulin so she could learn how to live with Type 1 Diabetes.

Why the hell do we have to wait? It feels punitive. Like saying "hey fatasses, you get to wait and be fatasses some more! Why? Because we feel like it!!!"

I went to see my shrink because of all of the anger I was feeling and that one mental health counseling session accomplished more than any meeting with the nutritionist.

I'm headed to the nutritionist now to hear other stuff that I've already read about or already know. My lunch hour wasted.

I'm almost to the point of throwing my hands up and saying F%*K it.
