My approval request was submitted to my insurance company yesterday. Scheduled for April 3. Fingers crossed. 🤞🏻

Hi Everyone! I just joined the board too and I'm in April with y'all! April 17th... I'm super excited but also nervous which is probably the same as everyone. Cant wait to watch us all go through this and come out different folks on the other side.

It will be on April 19th. Start my liquid diet on April 5th. Will be in the hospital for 2 days. I am so ready, but nervous. So wish me luck. I have been studying and trying to decide for years if I wanted to do it. I should of then. Well at least I am doing it now

Hi all:
This is my first post on these message boards. I am in my first month of my six-month long physician-monitored diet to receive approval from my insurer for gastric bypass surgery. I am hoping to complete the monitored diet by early August and then schedule my surgery for early October. One of my biggest concerns with this surgery is how my husband will also have to adjust to this change. I am the cook for all of our meals and we eat take-out a number of times a week. I had my psych evaluation this morning and they stressed how important it is to recognize that relationships will have to change once you have surgery. That, like an alcoholic, you can no longer have friends that "go out to the bar and drink," so to speak. My husband has never had to worry about his weight and eats anything he wants. He is incredibly supportive in my decision to have weight loss surgery but I would like to find some additional resources for him to read or watch if they exist. I think that sometimes it's easier for a spouse or family member to have some material to look at on their own rather than me talking at them all the time. Hopefully that makes sense. Does anyone who is pre-op already attend support meetings, and if so, has anyone taken his or her spouse or support person to the meetings? I am wondering if that is a good way for me to keep him involved. Anyway, that's all for now. I am sure I will be posting more on here in the future, so I look forward to talking to and getting to know some of you.

April 27 just got my date yesterday[emoji3] I started this process 10 months ago. I had pre-approval with insurance in July. I met all criteria in mid feb. It took 2 weeks for my insurance final approval (Aetna ) and of course my surgeon is booked 8 weeks out. Ugh

Since you are pre-op, I would recommend the following 3 steps:
1. Take a good before photograph of yourself, so that you have something to compare to after surgery. Many times we are blind to our obesity. We do not see ourselves. Therefore when the weight begins to drop off rather dramatically, we question if this is really happening. Photographs are a good visualization of our success. Many people carry a before and after photo with them, just to remind themselves of their success.
2. Walk 30 minutes each day, every day until surgery (or equivalent exercise). Walking helps the recovery process go smoothly and minimized the pain levels from surgery.
3. Wean yourself from caffeine and carbonated beverages now. After I gave up my 6 diet coke a day habit, I suffered from a week of severe withdrawal syndrome consisting of severe headaches and body aches. I was miserable. You don't want to combine the effects of caffeine withdrawal with the effects of surgery.
After surgery, I was pleased with my body image. It was horrible prior to surgery and improved significantly after surgery. This is a pre-op compared to 6 month post-op photo of myself.
