  1. Hi post-op'ers. Is there anything you've learned through this process you wish you knew going into it? Like, what to bring to the hospital? How to portion/weigh your foods. How to stay motivated? I would love to get some feedback. Liquid diet starts TOMORROW, surgery September 20th. Thanks! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using BariatricPal mobile app

    Anyone here in Florida??

Know I'm late to the party, but I'm in the Tampa, FL area. Getting sleeved September 20th. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using BariatricPal mobile app
  3. Hi there, I'm at 365lbs, 33 years old. 5 ft 3. So I have about 200 lbs to lose. I'm getting sleeved September 20th. I chose the sleeve over the bypass ONLY because of how many more complications the bypass can have. There's only about a 10% difference in excess weight loss between the two, and the sleeve has minimal complications associated with it. So for me, I'd rather have the extra 20 lbs that I can work off myself, than a lifetime of possible complications. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using BariatricPal mobile app

    Troubles stopping smoking

I had to be smoke free for 3 months before surgery, which was June 1st for me. (September sleever). After being a hard core almost 2 packs a day smoker for 17 years, I never thought I'd do it. My last cigarette was may 30th. Haven't had one since. I can't even pretend it's not the most difficult thing I've ever done. But, it did it. You're only going to quit when your ready. And if your not ready, then maybe your not ready for surgery either. This is about getting a second chance at life. Ask yourself, how bad do you want it? 9. Hey yall! I've been hovering in the background for a few weeks now. But, today's the day the journey starts, so I figured it was time to post. I've battled with weight issues my entire life, but didn't pack on the pounds until my freshman year in college, where I gained over 100lbs my first year. After that I've been steadily gaining ever since, with my peak weight being a few months ago at 370lbs. My ex Husband passed away suddenly in August, and as terrible as that was, I think it was the wake up call I needed. Since then, I've managed to lose about 15lbs on my own, but have stalled since then. I met with my surgeon this past Friday to start the 6 months supervised weight loss, and am looking at September or October for surgery. Today we start the weight loss program the surgeon suggested. 1200 calories a day. Wow. My concerns are more with excess skin and hair loss. My hair is super thin, so I'm worried about losing all of it after surgery. So, just dropped like $75 on Biotin, Vitamin e with collagen cream, Multivitamins etc. Does anyone have any suggestions on the Protein drinks? There are so many options I don't even know how to pick the right one!!! Any suggestions on preventing hair loss and excess skin? I'd like to be proactive rather than reactive on these issues if possible!

    Money money money

United Healthcare Choice Plus. Keep in mind that how good your benefits are depend largely on what your employer is willing to pay for. I work for one of the major auto insurance companies, so it seems they know the value of a good insurance plan. Even when I was first talking to United to find out what costs would be, the rep stated that these were the best benefits she had ever seen. So, again, I'm just so very fortunate.

Anyone kept their procedure a secret?

I'm just getting started on my journey. Hoping to have surgery in September. I am not a very private person. I've struggled with my weight literally since birth. Always "off the charts". So every person I know, knows that I've been trying to lose weight for years. This time around, I've turned into one of those annoying girls who posts daily meal and exercise recaps on Facebook. The amount of support I'm getting from friends and family is unbelievable. Personally, I feel like this is a good way to hold myself accountable to this 1200 calorie diet and exercise program my surgeon put me on. If I slack off, everyone will know. So, I'm using that as motivation to stick with it. Everyone's different though, so I can totally see why you would WANT to keep it a secret. I've just been fat for too long to allow myself to fail again.

    Money money money

I am so fortunate to have an amazing insurance plan. My total cost for the surgery will be the hospital co pay of $265. Before I switched jobs though, the surgery wasn't covered at ALL, so it would have been $25,000 out of pocket. My new job has provided me with not only great career options, but amazing health insurance and a chance at a new life.

Newbie with lots of insurance related questions!

I'd trust what you see on the website over what someone told you. It'd be RARE for them not to require the psych eval. If it says consecutive months, it means consecutive months. You may want to consider doing your consecutive months with your surgeon. That's what I'm doing, and it's going to give me that much more time to get comfortable with him, and for him to get to know me and my habits. I have United Health personally, so can't speak for BCBS approval process, but if you work with your surgeon, he should be able to help with everything!
