    Food

When I was on liquids I really wanted to eat tuna and as soon as I was allowed to eat it I did and was super happy about it. I felt full quicker and stayed full longer. I felt like singing and doing a happy dance. 😂
  3. I’m a month out from having my surgery and I don’t regret it at all. My only regret is that I didn’t jump on the chance to have it done 7-8 years ago when my liver specialist first recommended it to me because I was too scared to even consider it at the time. This time that it was recommended to me I did the research and agreed that it was what I needed after all. I had 2 friends who already had the surgery talk to me about their experiences as well as coming on here reading about others experiences helped me feel better about making this decision to have the surgery. You are going to do wonderfully! The first day or two are the roughest on how you feel afterwards but it improves every day. You will be feeling great before you know it!

    Normal BMI!

Congratulations!!! 🎉🎉🎉 That’s super awesome!!! Can’t wait until the day that I accomplish the same thing. You have worked hard and are doing so amazing!
  5. I’m doing good thanks. I’ve been pretty lucky, everything has gone well. I have my first follow up appointment tomorrow and hopefully will get to move onto puréed foods. I’m ready for a little more variety. I get tired at times. On occasion I get nauseous. You just take it day by day. I sometimes have to remind myself to take it easy and that I had surgery less than 3 weeks ago. Good luck with your upcoming surgery!

    13 days post-op!

I go for my first follow up appointment on Monday! Yay! Can’t wait to eat different things! So far I’m having liquids, protein shakes, plain Greek yogurt and cream of wheat. Soup broths too. I used to dislike tomato soup and now I actually really like it. I can’t wait until I can eat tuna or chicken again! That’s still a while off.

    Help with food

I’m not a good cook and I’m a single parent. I make a big batch of quinoa in a rice cooker in low sodium soup broth and add spices like garlic to it. It may be kinda bland, but you can always put tomato sauce or something and veggies in your individual bowl when you reheat some for a meal. I keep the cooked quinoa in a huge lidded bowl in the fridge and scoop out individual portions at meal time and doctor it up for whatever flavor my son or I want for the moment. You can cook the quinoa in just water. Use a little more than twice the amount of water as you use quinoa. Example: 1 cup quinoa use a little more than 2 cups of water. My doctor was super happy when I switched to eating quinoa a couple years ago. Quinoa is a nutritionally dense food that your body metabolizes differently than it does rice or pasta.
  9. I believe that the liver and gallbladder are on the right side of the body. Talk to your doctor to be safe if the pain persists.

    13 days post-op!

My surgery date was April 4th and I’m doing pretty well so far. I have to keep reminding myself to take it easier, because I’ll be really active one day and totally exhausted the next. I’m getting in my protein and trying my best to get in my water too. We just take it one day at a time. I can’t wait to move to puréed and soft foods next week. So very ready for food! 😁
  11. My sleeve surgery was also 04April. I’ve lost about 10 pounds so far. I’m getting my protein and water in pretty well, still trying to figure out when I’m taking one sip too many, I keep getting too full. It’s going to take practice and patience. Still gassy as well. I have decent energy at moments and feel exhausted at others. I’m taking it easy and going for walks at a park down the street. I’m so very glad that I am finally on the healing side of things instead of the waiting for the surgery to happen. Yay! We’ve all got this! 💕

    Optimism??!

Don’t worry! You are not the only one! I still have some “thin” clothes from almost 20 years ago hanging around my place just waiting for me to shrink back into them someday, like my favorite Levi’s jeans and a leather jacket I bought when I was in the military. Now I’m super glad that I didn’t get rid of them years ago when I was at my largest size. At the same time I didn’t hold onto my largest clothing to keep. At my largest I split out the backside of 5X pants bending over to pick up a pencil. I got rid of everything that was 4X, 5X and larger years ago. I still hold onto one pair of size 3X pants to compare with. I’ve been in Large to 2XL for a few years now. I have many different sizes of clothes in my closet and dresser. As I lose weight this time I plan to donate all of my larger sizes and not keep them around to fit back into again. I just got my sleeve done on 04April2018. I’m pretty excited for the changes coming up. 💕

    Gallbladder scare!

11-12 years ago I had an emergency gallbladder removal, I was in my mid-20s. I had been trying to lose weight with walking and trying to eat healthier because I had reached my highest weight ever and was embarrassed in school when my size 5XL scrub bottoms split when I bent to pick up a pencil. I didn’t even know that I had issues with my liver and gallbladder, I just figured it was really painful indigestion or something. I had to see a doctor before being able to move overseas with my husband (now ex) and they had me go to the emergency room and I had my gallbladder removed. It was crazy. I dropped 35 pounds super quickly. I can still feel pain in my liver area when I eat sometimes. My liver specialist recommended that I get weight loss surgery 7-8 years ago, but I was terrified about the idea and tried to lose the weight on my own. I got down to where I wear anything from Large to 2XL. Over a year ago my liver specialist recommended again that I should get weight loss surgery, but this time as my last effort to improve my liver health so I don’t end up needing a liver transplant in the next 5 years. I’ve spent over a year learning all I could and talking with friends that had weight loss surgery before and doing all my prerequisites for surgery. I know that I want to be around to watch my son grow up and raise his own family and I want to be healthy enough to play with my future grandchildren. So after all this I am finally having my surgery next week. It’s going to be a gastric sleeve surgery. I’m seriously hoping that my liver will finally get healthier. It’s so excellent that you are doing so much better! You look super fantastic!

Where are all the single cat ladies?

I’m single/divorced for a decade and I’ve always loved cats! I got my first cat for my 3rd birthday and she lived 17 years. I’ve had cats ever since. I currently have 2 cats that are both 7 years old. I got them for my son’s 8th birthday. He’s 14 almost 15. I haven’t met many men who like cats around where I live.
  23. I finally got the call yesterday evening. I’m getting sleeved on April 4th at 6 am. I started this journey in March 2017 and had all of my testing and prerequisites finished by the beginning of September and have been just waiting for my surgery date. I’m super excited and nervous. I can’t wait til the surgery is behind me and I’m all healed up. I’m going through the Veterans hospitals and everything takes a lot of waiting. I’m so glad that I kept hopeful and didn’t give up on the whole process.

April 5th. I just got the date yesterday.
  25. I’m so excited and nervous that I am finally getting there. I’m waiting for a phone call for my next appointment which is the one with the surgeon that my surgery date gets scheduled. I’m hoping to get the gastric sleeve done. I’ve been preparing and doing all the prerequisite things since March. I’m so ready to get this done finally.
