  1. James, I love your posts! I am now printing your "approach". My surgery date is March 7-RNY. I am now on day 4 of the 2-week liquid diet, and doing well. No headaches, and am off of both of my blood sugar pills. I have already lost 24.5 pounds, and have more energy than I know what to do with! For me hunger has always meant that a blood sugar crash is just around the corner, so I have been eating to prevent that! Great way to gain weight! Now hunger just means I am losing weight-yeah! To make this liquid diet more palatable, I made up 4 recipes for chicken Soups that meed my NUT's requirements for the "Protein shakes". I don't love sweet, and these are savory and satisfying! I am having 2 soups a day for lunch and dinner, and the shakes in between, along with the SF Jello, and SF popsicles. For me, this is totally doable. Since deciding to do this, I am hopeful that THIS way, I can lose weight and keep it off. That and getting the diabetes off my back are my two main motivators. I am scared of the surgery-pain, etc, but the benefits will definitely outweigh that. Thank you for your very logical, well researched and clear posts! They are SO GREAT!

    March Surgeries

I think it really depends on your surgeon. My doctor gave me a binder with LOTS of information, including the various pre-op diet regimens, at my 1st appt with him, and I met my nutritionist the same day. I was told that EVERYONE there has at least 2 weeks of the liquid diet pre-op. The assumption is that if you are overweight, then so is your liver, which needs to shrink before surgery. My BMI is 40, and it will be the 2-weeks for me! Starting it on the 21st. I am stocked up on Premier Protein shakes-4 flavors, sugar free jello, popsicles, etc. I am ready...now I just hope my body is LOL. I have been eating a highprotein, very low carb diet for a couple of weeks to prepare, and so far have lost 13 lbs an feel great. I am also off of one of my two diabetes pills because my blood sugars were getting too low! Yeah!

I miss the shading on quoted posts from others. It was easy to find the new post, and not re-read the old ones over and over.

    March Surgeries

My date is March 7th too! Such a mix of emotions right now-mostly excited to do it already! I have a 2-week pre-op diet of only liquids. I wish I could jump ahead to 2 weeks post-op. Not looking forward to the pain, anesthesia, recovery etc. After that I hope it will be just a new shiny path. Would love to keep in touch with all of you other March people. I look on these forums every day, and have so much appreciated all of the insight everyone has shared. Also, is there anyone in Spokane, WA having surgery in March? Would love to meet some face-to-face surgery buddies!

    Begining my journey

Hello All! I have just joined, but have been reading these forums for several months. Very helpful information. I will be having my RnY bypass surgery scheduled as soon as my surgeon gives the final approval. All insurance hoops done! Was told he would take about a week, then I could be scheduled about 6 wks from that time. Hoping for mid-March surgery date! VERY excited to do this. I would love to follow along with others just starting out. We can really help each other! My biggest concern is the expected period of depression shortly after surgery. I will probably post then, if I need help. I have the best, most supportive husband ever, so I'm sure he will be doing all he can to help me. I am so lucky!
