    hair loss after surgery

At about 3 months post-op I began losing large clumps of hair. My surgeon said it can last between 3-6 months. Once it starts there is not much you can do besides riding it out because once it starts it's not going to stop till it's done. I mean taking biotin and using shampoo's like Nioxin will make you feel better like you're being proactive about it but to be honest I don't feel like it's changed or stopped it for me. I'm about 4 months since the hair loss began and I feel like it is finally over. I can shower again without clogging the drain with hair. My hair thinned out a lot. But I can tell that I have a lot of baby hairs and it's starting to grow back in, finally. It is hard to go through the hair loss. I tried to act like I was okay and not make a big deal about it. however, deep down I was very stressed about it. Unfortunately, it's just something that some of us have to go through and you're not alone. Everyone I've spoken to about this says it will grow back. The downside for me is I noticed mine is growing back in with a lot of grey. Biotin doesn't sit well with some people. It will make your nails stronger, my eye lashes look amazing now since taking it lol, but I don't think it did anything to slow or stop my hair loss, what it will do is help my new hair grow back in strong and healthy and a bit faster. But biotin can make all your hair, like your body hair come in stronger too so just be aware. It also gives some people bad acne. But if it doesn't affect you in a poor way then it's worth taking it.
  5. I read that it is actually not as easy as people think to stretch your stomach. Naturally, the stomach has folds that allow it to expand when we eat. So eating poorly or over eating occasionally will not stretch your stomach out over night. You may feel uncomfortable full and guilty for over doing it but you haven't ruined anything. However, if you begin to eat portions the way you did prior to surgery and you begin to eat that way consistently you will indeed stretch your pouch out again over time. So it is very important for you to manage your portions. My personal opinion is some people get so strict with their diets they end up failing or stumbling. Denying yourself of what you like is a set-up for failure. Try using trackers on your phone to help you manage your calories and your portions. Seeing what you are eating over time helps you to make good decisions throughout the day and helps you see where you may need to adjust. You shouldn't have to starve yourself to correct this, but you should remember to take your time when you eat so that your brain can register that you are full and if you need to maybe revert to following your post-op diet plan, maybe not the liquid phase but your 90+ day plan.
  6. By clear they mean you can see through it. So like broth's and bouillon's. Yes you need protein. I highly recommend Unjry chicken soup flavor protein. It tasted just like Top Ramen chicken soup. it was only 90 calories and have 21 grams of protein and it's see through so good for your clear liquid, and puree phase. It was a great break from all the sweet protein shakes. It allowed me to drink something that tasted savory which helped me get through the liquid only phase.
  7. The Bariatric Pal Buillon was okay. The Best was the Unjury chicken flavor. It was nice to have a savory protein rich alternative to the sweet protein shakes. I highly recommend the Unjury chicken flavor to anyone who is prepping for post-op recovery and their liquid phase. You will get tired of sweet, chocolate, banana, strawberry, vanilla protein shakes. The chicken flavor was a life saver. the unflavored packets from unjury were good too because I could add it to other liquid soups canned or purred soups to up the protein content of it. The unjury chicken soup flavor taste exactly like top ramen chicken soup. it was good.
  8. The items have been claimed. Thanks for your responses. Happy I could help out!
  9. Good luck on your journey! I recently went clothes shopping because nothing fit anymore. Non-scale victories along the way are great motivators and I wish the same success for you!
  10. I am 7 months post op and have some leftover supplies from my liquid phase and I would rather not throw them out as they are still good and unopened. I'd like these to go to someone who is already surgery approved and prepping for their post-op recovery and could use these for their liquid phase. I know how expensive it can be to prep for your protein needs post-op and would like to help out someone else who could use these items. This is what I have to offer: 13 packets of bariatric pal chicken bouillon packets. 2 packets of vanilla Unjury protein packets 2 packets of chocolate unjury protein packets 2 packets of strawberry unjury protein packets 2 packets of unflavored unjury protein packets 5 packets of chicken soup unjury protein packets Like I said everything is unopened and is free. I will ship for free in the U.S. to the 48 contiguous states.

    POST SURGERY - FEBRUARY SLEEVERS

When I started the whole process of prepping for my weight loss surgery. I was at my heaviest. I had my 3-month post-op follow-up today and I am just really happy. My heaviest weight from the start was 464 lbs. My weight at surgery was 418 lbs. my weight today was 378 lbs. I don't try to hold on to a goal weight specific number. I would just like to get down as much as I can and have a more healthy and mobile life as a whole on a daily basis. I've had some great non-scale victories too, pants being too big, shirts beeing oversized, being able to drop a few band sizes in my bra. Already I can feel the difference in how I move, my energy, my confidence slowly rising. It's a great feeling and incredibly motivating. My doctor said I am right on target and he's very happy with my progress.

    Bathroom Issues?

About two weeks out I had stopped taking Pain Meds and had the urge to go but I couldn't poop. I was more afraid than anything. I could feel it was hard and I knew it was going to hurt. I also realized I didn't drink enough water AND I was taking fiber supplements which didn't help. Because in order for things like benefiber to bee effective you need to drink tons of water. I took miralax two days in a row and walked a lot. Eventually finally was able to go after about two days of discomfort but it was an ordeal, it did hurt. But since then I've been good. I don't go every day like I used to though. I go maybe every other day or so now. I highly recommend miralax. It's very gentle on your system won't cause your colon to become dependent on it to go and as long as you make sure you get your 64oz of water going should remain soft and easy. I've taken the miralax one other time since surgery because I hadn't gone in like 4 days and I was worried I was going to end up backed up again, shortly after taking the miralax that same day I was able to go to the bathroom just fine. You have to absolutely be sure you are getting your full 64 oz of water especially with all the protein you are eating. I also take two benefiber supplements a day, they come in travel size packets and you just shake them up into your water bottle and drink. It has no taste once shaken up well. Bit for the fiber to work you MUST drink enough water otherwise you just end up constipated anyways. Same for the miralax you stir the powder into water very well and you barely taste a difference. You can check with your doctor to be sure but it's gentle enough to take when needed and not have any adverse side effects.

    POST SURGERY - FEBRUARY SLEEVERS

You're doing fine. I'm a paranoid over thinker and I've been all over different support sites to see how people have done. One thing for sure if everyone has a stall and for some it takes a bit more to get through them. You will wake up soon and see your losing again. Just stick to your eating guidelines and make sure your doing your exercise and/or walking and you'll be successful. Don't get discouraged.

    POST SURGERY - FEBRUARY SLEEVERS

Tiring out quickly! yes! OMG. I have a long work commute that use to leave me tired pre-op but I feel like it's worse even know after a full day of work, the long drive home. I barely have enough energy to make it to bed. I keep telling myself its because I'm getting back in the groove of things at work for the first time this week. So hopefully next week feels better. Congrats on the 25 Lbs that's great!
