The 5 day pouch test DOES work!

Yes I felt I was eating more too and we do, more than the beginning, and that's okay when you're just maintaining. But to lose, try the test because it made me feel like I did in the beginning. On day three I was superrrrrr hype to have tuna and soft salmon, cottage cheese, scrambled eggs etc. LOL because I was tired of liquids. So if you think about it, my mind was on eating that stuff and not junk or high carb foods. And even if you slip up just a bit (because I sure snuck a few fruit loops or something like that), it's again, better than eating cheesecake or a whole bag of chips.. so yea, try it, and best of luck to you ! 2. Not that I was skeptical, but to a degree in your mind you think nothing works for YOU. I kept reading success stories but felt I would be different. February 11th will be my 3 year surgiversary, and for about a year and a half I've just been maintaining my weight. But I knew I wasn't done, that I had about 50lbs more to lose... so I started watching what I ate more, didn't eat after 7pm, exercised more, drank more Water (64oz or more), all that but my weight wouldn't move or kept creeping up. So I read and read and read and finally decided to do the test, although I don't have a pouch but a sleeve. This wasn't just to start losing again but it reset my mind back to the basics. I'm on day three now, soft Protein and for the first time in two years eating 1 1/2 scrambled eggs filled me up. Weighed myself before I ate and lost 6lbs. Motivating me to finish off the last couple of days and focus on my intake more once it's over. I pray my weight keeps going down because this mornings number (244)... [started at 322, surgery weight 308... maintaining between 245 and 250...] is the lowest I've ever seen. If I hit 239, imma buy everyone a car !!! Jk jk but y'all see what I mean. My point is if you've hit a stall or have maintained for too long and wanna keep going.. get your mind right and this will help you refocus. ???? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  6. I am three years post op and I have been at the same weight for two years, but I still have about 50lbs to lose. So I've been reading A LOT in these forums, and googling everything so I started increasing my Protein, low carbs, no soda, iced coffees, etc., exercising, lots of Water bla bla bla and I'm having MORE trouble losing than when I was just maintaining and doing whatever I wanted. I'm even gaining, slowly, but gaining. Wth?? So anyway I decided to start the pouch test and although I know I don't have a pouch because I am "sleeved", I've read it still helps getting you back to the basics and provides a "clean start". Which is what I think my body needs to get through this and lose... and lose constantly not just a couple lbs then gaining that back which seems to be happening. All that to ask, with drinking tea as apart of the Clear Liquids on day one, can I add sugar? Lol. May be a dumb question but I'm not playing any games I NEED to kickstart my weight loss again. Anyone who does not count calories? Ever?

I been maintaining for too long. I'm three years post op and the last two years I've been the same weight give or take a few lbs, but now I am trying to lose the rest and I simply can't. I've been eating what I wanted but now that I limit my calories (to about 1200 or so) I just can't shake this stall (or maintenance). Could it be that I am not eating enough? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App During my weight loss phase I ate 1400-1500 calories a day, hit my protein goal of 100 grams every day, ran three days a week, biked two days a week, and did strength training 5-6 days a week. I think, like you have observed from other posts, I was successful because I actually kept my calories pretty high. I never had the damage to my metabolism that a lot of WLS patients have by creating too large a calorie deficit in their weight loss phase. My only advice for someone in your position now would be to get as much protein as possible and add in some strength training. Muscle burns more calories, so if you can build some up, it should boost your metabolism a bit. But it won't be fast. Don't expect quick results. You have to do it and stick with it and have faith it will pay off in the end. Wonderful. It makes a lot of sense because once my weight stayed the same I was eating normal (as much as my stomach could take anyway). But I certainly wasn't counting calories or watching what I ate, although I wasn't going crazy with all the wrong foods either. And I wasn't doing extra exercises, just moderate daily movement. It wasn't until I tried to count calories and eat less where my weight wasn't moving or gaining a couple. So I will go back to my "norm", but making sure most of what I eat is protein and exercising... prayerfully that'll do the trick. The 240's just won't let me go ! (Started out at 320 though, 308 surgery day). Goal is 200 Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Absolutely! You'll find many who were told to eat more by their nutritionists to lose weight. There is actually some science behind eating more to lose weight. Here is an excellent website that talks about how our bodies work and why we should have more calories. The low calorie thing isn't meant to be long term, but neither is the over the limit calorie. Got to find the balance. But from what I've learned, when you're too low for too long, you will either not lose weight or gain weight. The latter is what I did. 13. I think they meant cut your calories down by 500 a day. I'd say aim for 1000 calories a day to get back into losing. Oooooh okay makes sense lol. I will adjust my fitness pal to 1000 calories and continue working out 3-4 times a week, thank you !
  14. There's like carbs in everything ! How can I stay below just 15 grams of it with three meals? And others say when you starve your body of calories, it holds on to fat so I won't lose anything. Ugh, so much! Naeema W. No, you will lose, absolutely. It's why you lost the initial weight, it's why we had 80% of our stomach removed. It will work. 15 grams carbs per MEAL, not in a whole day. You have the sleeve, right? You started out eating 5 - 4oz meals a day? just go back to that. Go back to your routine from when you moved into the full food stage. Eat protein based meals and get complex carbs only, like from green or orange veggies (not from white veggies). Drink your water in between. Also, are you drinking water with your meals? That is a no-no if you have the sleeve as well. What it does is pushes the food through your stomach more quickly allowing you to eat more, take in more calories and not feel as full. Bad news for wanting to lose weight. Once you've drop it all you can slowly go back to maintaining and up the calories again but if you want to loss that weight you need to reduce calories and keep up your exercise. I mean, not to extremes but normal, healthy exercise. Thank you SO much!
