  1. I have a BMI of 40 and wasn't required to do a liquid diet. I only have to do liquids 48 before surgery. I'm scheduled for surgery on 3/13 so this week i'm doing 2 shakes and a sensible dinner. This weekend will be my all liquid diet before surgery.

    Pre-Op Liquid Diet

The only time I have to have liquids is 48 hrs before. This last week I had to do i shake in the morning , a sensible lunch and sensible dinner. They suggested lean cuisines or smart ones that didn't contain pasta or potatoes. This week I do 2 shakes and a sensible dinner. I asked him about a liquid diet but he said it wasn't necessary. I had two friends use the same doctor and they were put on liquid diets but their BMI's were higher than mine...that's the only reason I can think of.
  3. I'm on Reserve Select South and Tricare does cover the sleeve. I just got my approval today and am scheduled for surgery in March. I can have surgery at any point now but I'm waiting for spring break. I work for the school system and want to take advantage of the full week off lol. They don't require a diet BUT they do require 6 months of weight evals and all the regular tests. I started the process in August, had my last visit in Dec and just got approved. The approval took about 4 days...the drs office took longer to submit everything but I'm calling them tomorrow to let them know I've gotten my approval letter.

    Tricare Standard & Their Requirements

Hi! I'm also having the gastric sleeve done with Tricare Standard South and just received my preauth today! I'm also 5'8 and 270 lol. With Tricare South I've paid my deductible of $150 plus nutrition classes which were $300. I've also had some out of pocket here and there for things that I have to pay a percentage on so so far out of pocket I'm at about $600 I would guess. That's over the 6 months because it is a 6 month evaluation. I didn't have to do a diet because if I dropped under a BMI of 40 it would deny my surgery. I've pretty much stayed this same weight the whole time. I didn't have to submit any previous history because I have high blood pressure so the comorbidity helped me I guess. I'm scheduled to have surgery on March 13th but I'm still trying to find out what my total out of pocket will be for the actual surgery. I have a max of $1000 cat cap for myself so that's all I should have to pay but I've called and gotten 5 different answers :-/ My experience with Tricare has been pretty great. I just had a tubal in preparation because my dr said you become very fertile and because of my blood pressure and history, I've never been able to take birth control. That surgery probably incurred costs that will go towards my cat cap as well so I'm not sure how much I'll end up paying out of pocket in the end.
