LivinLifeHealthy2009 got a reaction from Julie norton in No One In The Sixties?
Hi! Excited to see some of us "older but wiser" peeps on here! I am a 66 yr. young female going on 67 (in July) and had my surgery at 59. I went from "my" high weight of 241 to 127 in 8 months and was told to put on 5 lbs. Well I've done that, AND more, 23 lbs! I share this because it's a well known fact that if we do not stay plugged in to a support group and think our "pouch" is going to do all the work, we are fooling ourselves. I know because that's what I've done.....Im depressed about my weight gain, I cannot afford any type of cosmetic procedures and find myself slipping into the same habits that got me heavily obese in the first place! I'm not crying the blues or feeling sorry for myself folks, just asking if anyone out there has been, or is, there and what you did. For those of you who've just had the surgery, or are scheduled, I applaud you....I still believe it is the best thing I've ever done for myself Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using the BariatricPal App

Hikell911:I had my RNY in Nov 2009 and went from 244 to 135 in 7 months, I actually lost about 8 more lbs. but the doc said it was too low. I don't know about the sleeve, losing the part of the stomach where grehlin is produced (never heard that one) but I can tell you I was certainly not hungry one time in many many years. Get into a good support system, listen to your doctor, take your Vitamins, eat your Protein like you are supposed to do and you will be a success! I wouldn't go back for a million bucks, and I'll be 67 this year! You can do this!

I took a flight on JetBlue this past Sunday and the most exciting moment since my surgery was NOT needing a seatbelt extension and having to actually tighten it.. one of my biggest low points came last year when I had to ask for one in front of my wife.. since November 9th I'm down 67 pounds and feel liberated..

If you are cooking all of your meals, my fitness pal also has a recipe tab where you can enter in the ingredients (provided you know how much of each ingredients you are adding). Then you can put in that you ate half or a quarter of it, or whatever.

Hi I am 3 and 1/2 years out from my RNY. I have no physical hunger. It has never returned. They do cut the nerves to your ghrelin hormone. I am one of the very Lucky ones that it never returned to yet. That is the AMAZING thing about WLS, you lose the hunger. But you also need to realize that you still have to do the work! The WLS either one is the tool that helps you be successful. We do THE WORK!! Good luck in your choice of either surgery.

I had my VSG on 12/5/16. I've lost 50# since then but I still get hungry. Both surgeries are just tools to help you say no to unhealthy foods or unhealthy quantities of those foods. You still have to decide every day that you don't want to be fat anymore. As far as which procedure to choose...I would go with what your doctor suggests. It's tough either way but at least there is hope to keep it off. Good luck!
