I'm pretty sure Ensure has sugar in it, doesn't it? And the point of the pre-op diet is to burn through your glycogen stores so that you start burning the fat on your liver instead (which your body won't do in the presence of sugar).

Nervous and exited I got my insurance approved in one day. My surgery date is February 22nd I do have irrational thoughts of what if something happens (like cancer or another illness ) and I need my stomach and to late it's gone. Other than the irrational I'm reading a lot of gastric sleeve books and working on the physiological to make sure I'm ready

First post on this site. My sleeve surgery date is Feb. 22 in Mexico with Dr. Alvarez at Endobariatric. Anyone else going to be there then? Or can anyone vouch for him or have any negative reviews to share? I feel pretty confident from everything I've read and seen, but it always helps to get a firsthand opinion. Well, it's still the internet, so I guess I can't trust everything I read, but I assume if you're vouching for him in response to my post that you're not a paid reviewer!
I'm posting because I could really use a support network -- I haven't told anyone except my boyfriend and my sister. My sister found out because I stupidly joined a support group on FB that I thought was private (it was a closed group), but FB asked her if she was interested in joining it and showed that I was already a member. She called me in a panic and I couldn't lie. I'm pretty pissed, because Lord knows who else on FB saw that I was in that group. Anyway, I'm staying off of FB and seeking support here, because it's more private. I might share that I had surgery afterward, but I just don't want uneducated accusations about taking the easy way out and extra projected anxiety about Mexican surgical complications thrown at me before surgery. I'm already anxious for this huge lifestyle change I'm about to make as it is!
My starting BMI is 42.5. I'm 32 years old and from Seattle, WA. Please say "hi" if you know this surgery is the right thing for your health, but you still have some emotional anxiety around it like I do. I'll be a great cheerleader and friend for you, as well! As far as I know, no one I know has ever had weight loss surgery, so I'm totally alone in this. My boyfriend who is a nurse and was a medic in the Air Force (so has extensive American-based healthcare experience), while supportive of me getting this surgery, is upset that I am going to Mexico to do it. He refuses to research Medical Tourism or Dr. Alvarez to see how common and safe it is. He's still going with me, but he hasn't been totally supportive, so I could use some friends who won't judge my decision.

I am almost two years out and 178 pounds down. Some people discredit by loss because of the surgery, but I don't let them get me down. I know how hard I have worked and continue to work. If I am feeling catty, I usually go INTO DETAIL about my workout regime. People tend to hush then. When people talk about diets, I try to educate them on proper nutrition. Diets may help someone lose weight but they are a band aid for a huge problem. It's a temporary fix. I would just tell your friend that you are focusing on long term solutions by eating well and exercising.

I think that's a fear of mine people asking about my weight loss and not knowing what to say because as of now I don't want friends or co workers to know I was sleeved. I feel they will look at me differently

Just got my surgery date today! February 20th! It's crazy how some of my friends are happy for me that I got my date. While others who I thought I had their support won't say anything. At least my family is supportive!

My approval from insurance on Dec 30th I am scheduled for surgery February 21st. I had to get my titration for my CPAP on the 5th and I have to wear it for at least 30days before the surgery. I started on Dec 23rd doing my Protein shakes and juicing...eating mostly fruits and veggies and some grains. Lots of Water with lemon and so far as of today lost 10lbs since the 23rd. I am trying to get down another 10lbs before I go in to do all my pre surgery test and before I start the liquid diet. I believe they put us on Optifast 1-2 wks prior.

So I've been paying extra attention lately to food pages in my fb feed and instagram, etc... and unliking them so I'm not bombarded with delicious looking food post op but while watching tv tonight I counted 4 out of 7 commercials are about food. Most of them that are about other things have food in them. Ugh. So frustrating. I may have to stick with Netflix so there are no commercials. Has anyone else noticed this?
