My Dr sent all my paperwork to Aetna on Wednesday. Now I've got a whole new set of worries! Anyone else use Aetna? I did 6 months of appts, nutritionist and psychologist visit. I couldn't weigh more on my last visit I comparison to my first, and I'm down 5lbs, so it's less.

hi all! I'm having RNY on June 20th! Anyone else in June?

I'm 6 months postop RNY and I no longer get itching and hives in/around my mouth from eating apples or pears. Has anyone else noticed this kind of mysterious change to your body's response to certain foods?

I just got my date. June 20th.

If it were me, I'd go based on how I feel, with Dr's orders in the back of my mind. There are plenty of folks who travel for Medical Tourism, traveling from Mexico to Canada less than a week after surgery on . I wouldn't do an all out high adventure vacation, but if I could go in a car, then relax and heal somewhere else, why not?

So are you going sleeve or bypass. For me if is going to do it, I wanted an one an done, go all the way. That way I don't have to go back. It turns out that there were medical reasons my doctor wanted me to go bypass (mainly reflux).
Banding is relatively minor compared to sleeve and sleeve is less the bypass but I figure while they have me out I would give myself the best chance!

I sit here this mother's day morning and ask myself so many questions. Will the surgery be successful? How will I look next mother's day? How will people search me once the weigthloss begins? I thank God for the opportunity to even have the surgery, I've struggled with obesity since childhood and now it will be the new me in all my potential! Obviously, I've changed significantly the way I eat it's part of the process. Oh you don't know, I had the Lap-Band (2008) and lost 100 pounds and have gained 50 another failed lapband surgery. Then I met the surgeon he said sleeve was best, then I met the main surgeon who said Gastric bypass was best and here I am 29 days before surgery. Excited but nervous, anxious but peaceful and thanking God!

After 3-4 months of jumping through hoops for the insurance, I finally have a surgery date of 6/27. Any recommendations from the guys as to what to bring to the hospital. Any other general tips for newbies?

My partner and I love cruising! Yes, there will be food everywhere, but the good news is, there is food everywhere. There is plenty of Protein to be had on cruise ships. I know for a fact that Carnival has grilled chicken breast and grilled salmon available every night in the main dining room. I'm sure the others have something similar. The buffets always have lean protein and vegetables as well. The challenge is going to be staying away from the empty calories and carbs that will throw you off course.
Also, I'd recommend bringing along some Protein Shakes or Protein Powder. I'm not sure what their rules are about the ready-made shakes, but since nothing like that is available on board (to my knowledge), I can't imagine that they wouldn't allow them to be brought aboard.

There are two phases to weight loss surgery. These are the Weight Loss phase and the Maintenance phase. The goals of these two phases are different and also the approach to use in these two phases are also different. I am 3 years post-op RNY gastric bypass surgery. I don't know if this is necessarily the place to post this, but I just got married!!!! This woman has been by my side through the last 2 and a half years in this journey. She met me when I weighed over 600 pounds. I am now back down to my playing weight for football in college, but I am much healthier and and in better shape than I was then. I still have a lot of work to get under 3 bills, but I am extremely happy to head down this new path in life.
