sybilvane7 got a reaction from Half-Tum in 6 month surgiversary!!
    Hi everyone!
So its been exactly 6 months since my surgery. I started out with 220 pounds, and now im 149. (150 is my nuts goal, i might want to keep losing a little more).
Through excercising and training, i have managed to do things i never thought my body could do like run for more than 1 mile now, or go up the stairs all the 11 floors to work.
At my highest i couldnt fit in my size 14 and xl clothes, now i wear size 8/6 and s/m
    I couldnt be happier.

    Here are some recommendations:
    1. Give up all carbonated beverages and caffeine from your diet. I gave up my 6 diet coke a day habit prior to surgery and dropped 20 pounds on that change alone. But be prepared that if you remove caffeine from you diet that you may suffer from caffeine withdrawal. This lasted about a week for me with severe headaches and body aches. So if you make this change be prepared for a little suffering. Remember you have to do this for the surgery anyways, so why not make this change now. You definitely do not want to compound your recovery from weight loss surgery with caffeine withdrawal pain.
    2. After surgery you will need to rely on Protein supplements (Protein shakes and Protein bars). So I would recommend you purchase good Protein Bars (low on sugar and high on protein) and consume these as Snacks. Quest make a good Protein Bar with a lot of variety.
    3. Get off the sugar. Transition over to artificial sweeteners (such as Splenda or sugar alcohols) or natural no calorie sweeteners (such as stevia). There are many products on grocery store shelves that have "No Sugar Added" label. So have hot cocoa but the No Sugar Added cocoa mix. Adkins makes a number of products that will take the edge off your sweet tooth. Read the labels, if it has more than 5 grams of sugar on the label, you may want to avoid these products and foods.
    4. Walk 30 minutes each and every day.
    5. Eat meals high in protein and low in carbs. Limit your complex carbs (such as bread and pasta) to one meal per day.

Comparison is a recipe for disaster and disappointment. I feel like a broken record saying this on these forums, but everbody and every BODY is different. If you are doing everything you are supposed to do and following your plan, you will lose weight. How quickly you do so is unbelievably irrelevant in the long run. I promise! I "only" lost 15 pounds my first month. I "only" lost 8 pounds my second month. I "only lost 5-6 pounds a month for several months after that. I "only" lost 2 pounds a month for several months after that. You know where all those "only"s got me? To goal where I've been maintaining for almost 16 months.
I promise you that I have never once looked back and thought to myself "too bad I didn't reach goal a month earlier like so-and-so did." It genuinely makes ZERO difference if you lose all the weight in 6 months or in 16 months. What matters is that you stick to the plan, get to goal, and then spend YEARS and YEARS living your happier, healthier life.
This isn't a diet. You will never be "done" with your sleeve. So there is no race to the "finish" line. This is the rest of your life!

sybilvane7 reacted to Luce587 in When were you able to drink a glass of water?
I know exactly how you feel... Water hurts!!
I've been flavouring mine with lemon, orange or lime cordial (not sure what the US calls it) but get sick of the sweet flavour.
Yesterday I cut a fresh lime into wedges and that helped immensely. I was able to consume 700ml of Water in just under an hour whilst waiting for a blood test.
A nurse told me that adding cordial etc changes the pH of the water and makes it easier to digest.
    Hope that helps!

@@sybilvane7 at 15 days out today and yes I'm feeling better though the emotions do get to me sometimes. But I got the clearance today to get back to the gym which will help me a lot plus I've expanded my support circle just a bit by finding a nutritional counselor who is going to be working with me around the issues centered around food not just what I need to be eating (like the bariatric nutrionist). I have so much more to work on than the pounds I need to loose. Thank you for your support and hope your recovery is going well.
