    Sipping & summer

Same here. Three months post op RNY and no problem getting my 64oz. daily water intake.
  2. I have Ulcerative Colitis and had gastric bypass surgery on January 23rd. No complications and have been successful. In fact, my UC has never been so controlled. To date, I am down 55lbs. Happy to answer any specific questions you may have. Best of luck on your journey.

    How much time?

I was ready to go back to work, office job, after 1 week off. That said, everyone is different. I recommend planning for one week and if you can go back sooner - you're good to go.

    Multi vitamins!! HELP

My nutritionist cautioned me about gummies as they can contain high amounts of sugar. You want to watch for that. I use the Celebrate brand of chewable vitamins and supplements and they taste fine, with the exception of iron, which I could not tolerate. I went to the Patch MD iron patches and so far so good.

    Multi vitamins!! HELP

I use the Celebrate brand chewable supplements, including my multivitamin, and they are more than tolerable. I recommend them. That said, I could not tolerate any oral iron supplements so I am using the patches for iron, by Patch MD . So far so good with my levels.

    CPAP

My pulmonary doctor told me to call and schedule a sleep study after a 50 lbs loss. I started with about 115lbs of excess weight.
  7. I had my surgery (RNY) on 1/23, also and I am down only 14lbs post op. I have my 1 month appt with my surgeon tomorrow and I'm hoping to be cleared for exercise - more than walking - to maybe jumpstart my weight loss a little. It's reassuring to know that we are not alone.
  8. Sounds like you may be getting otherwise sick and not necessarily related to your surgery. Do your best to get your water in...need to stay hydrated. Hope you feel better soon.
  9. You should call your MD. Need to be cautious of blood clots this soon post op. Better safe than sorry!

    Vitamin/protein gummies when?

I was instructed to start full supplements 1 week post op. Gummies are discouraged because most are high in sugar.

How long were you off work?

This question is asked often and I think it varies quite a bit. Everyone responds differently. I had RNY on 1/23 and returned to my desk job on 1/30. I had planned on working from home the 2nd week but I felt ready to go back. Again, we all respond differently so there is no one answer fits all, really. Best of luck on your new journey.
  12. I started using Frank's Red Hot Sauce about 2 weeks post op, on my soft foods, and tolerated it perfectly fine. Regarding hard candy, my nutritionist said sugar free hard candies are fine but in moderation. Congratulations on your new beginning.

    Decaf coffee

Hi. I have been taught that it does not count but I agree there are differing opinions out there. Decaf tea - especially herbal teas - do count towards your fluid intake and are very good for you.

    Work

I was back to work, desk job, after one week.
  15. I take the Celebrate brand of all my chewable vitamins, except iron. I could not tolerate the iron - extreme nausea. I went to the Patch MD iron patches - so far so good. I got all of my Celebrate vitamins at Amazon and the patches right here at BariatricPal.com. I recommend trying Celebrate.

    Metallic tasting water

I had a similar experience with a metallic taste about 2 weeks post-op. Turns out I had a case of thrush on my tongue causing it. I was told it can happen post-op after extended time on a straight liquid diet. I was treated and it went away within a couple of days.
  17. Ask your doctor for a different drug. There are many proton pump inhibitors (PPI) available. I take pantoprazole and that comes in a small, coated tablet. Very easy to swallow.
  18. I was on the tail end of a cold for my pre-op appts and had the same concerns. I was told that all anesthesiologists have different protocols but generally so long as I didn't have a fever it would likely be a go. And it was (RNY 1/23/17). Rest up! Here's to a successful surgery and your new journey.

    Question for my friends

Yes. Same with me. I had RNY on 1/23, doing everything right and I am only down 9 lbs. I'm told it's common and to be patient. Keepin' the faith. [emoji4]
  20. I am just 2 weeks post op and weight loss has already stalled. I am down 9lbs and the scales hasn't moved in days. I just started soft foods this past weekend. Has anyone else experienced a stall this early? How long do they last? Feedback is appreciated.

    Cookbook

Hi all. I just wanted to share a great, new cookbook that I found. It's called: Fresh Start Bariatric Cookbook by Sarah Kent. It is for all surgery types and has recipes for all diet stages. Recipes look simple and include Breakfast, dips and sides, dinners, drinks and Desserts, and dressings, sauces and seasonings. I purchased it at Barnes and Noble for $15.99 and it is on Amazon for the same price. Enjoy! 22. Congratulations on your success. You look happy!

    Pre-op liquid diet

You can do it! Keep your eye on the prize. I am 6 days post op RNY. I had to do the liquid diet for two weeks prior to my surgery on 1/23 and believe me, I hear you. It was difficult. I would've given anything to bite into something crunchy and actually chew it. But I was relieved to hear my surgeon say my liver looked great and reduced my risks during surgery. You've got this! Good luck!

    Surgery 1/23

My RNY surgery is tomorrow, as well. Its easy to let our minds get the better of us, isn't it? I too trust my surgeon and his team and keep reminding myself of all the benefits I'm working for. I keep chanting to myself "1-2-3 to a healthier me."(1/23 date). Ha! I'm jealous you didn't have to do a pre-op diet. I have been on liquids for 2 weeks and would give anything to bite into something crunchy right now. Congratulations and good luck tomorrow!
