I am a former Lapband who was sleeved on 2-6. I never use straws. I don't drink sodas, I don't drink with meals.
Why?
Although I have been in the medical field for over 20 years, I am not a Bariatric Surgeon. My surgeon and his well-trained staff know how to navigate me through this to allow me to have a successful outcome. I am not going into this thinking that I know better/ differently than them. I am not usually that RARE person who is the exception to the rules. I have seen so many people disappointed with their results or surprised they are struggling because they all thought they knew better than their surgeon/support staff.
I am in NO WAY bashing anyone for their journey. I, personally am following my surgeon's plans to a "T".
With that being said we all want the best results possible. Surgeons are different. Some say straws are ok if you can tolerate some say differently. Not saying the some doctors are better than others, some have different opinions. I follow all of my MD's advice and he has straws are fine if you tolerate. -
I just read your post and I went through the same thing. I took in no Protein, no food and hardly and liquids. Nothing ever helped. I am 8 months out and still get sick. I do not even take Vitamins and I'm still here. This is something you will have to figure out on your own. I try foods that I'm not supposed to eat and mostly they stay down. Example 1/2 of a Ritz cracker and 1/3 cup juice. It will all work out for you I promise.

I am 2 weeks post op
Today. Have had the same problem
Except the nausea. It has gotten a little better. I was able to get some soft fruit down today. I have issues with everything seeming to get stuck in my throat. You need to be seen to make sure it's nothing serious. Hang in there I still haven't reach more Protein or liquid goals yet.

I was having the same problem and talked with nutritionist and surgeon's nurse. Eating faster than I thought so I timed myself and put at least 2-3 mins between bites and smaller bites/sips. I take Miralax in 8 oz of beverage every morning (fiber) to keep me pooping. Protein is very constipating. Upped my Pepcid from 1 to 2 times a day and got some simethicone tablets for GAS. These are chewable and help a lot. Things have improved for me considerably. The constriction/pain with eating/drinking went on for me for 3 weeks until I called the doctor's office for advice. I highly recommend you do the same. They are there to help us but we have to call to initiate the help. Good luck to you and hope things smooth out for you!
Thanks for the info. I'm two weeks out hopefully it will get better

I felt like there was an alien controlling my body between the back of my throat and the bottom of my stomach for the first 12 weeks or so. It was a mystery and I'm sorry you are going through it as well, but it does heal. I hated swallowing for that entire time. But now I've leveled out to my new normal. I'm 4 months post op.
Thanks. Hopefully it will get better with time. I was able to eat some soft peaches today with no problem but still having trouble with or foods, liquids and my meds. Glad I'm not the only one

I'm 15 days post op. Everything I eat and drink feels like it's stuck in my throat. It only last a few mins. Even when I drink Water. I'm having trouble taking all my Vitamins. Is this normal? I eat and drink slowly so I don't think I'm over doing that. I also had hiatal hernia surgery the same time as my sleeve.

I will have my surgery on the 13th of February but, I have found a Protein mix called GENEPRO. 1 tablespoon is 30grams and I mix it with my coffe. My sister had her surgery in October and she started using this as well and mixes it with an ounce of Gatorade and takes like a shot .. hope this helps you..

My MD says absolutely no genpro says patients that use it don't lose the weight.
He's done studies.

liquid Vitamins sound.... unfortunate. Sorry! I couldn't stay on top of taking the oral Vitamins post-op, there was too many. I highly recommend the PatchMD patch vitamins. You slap it on, 8 hours later take them off, and that's it. They have a wide variety too (even more on PatchMD.com I believe). All my blood work has come back perfectly using them as it's said you absorb much more from them than you do any sort of oral vitamins.
Thanks for the info. I'll check it out

I use a liquid one. It's a bit like a sirup that's diluted with Water.
It was on the recommended list of possible Vitamin supplements.
What's it called? Where do you get it?

Not very familiar with that. So how many do you have to drink a day? Is it expensive?

Having trouble with the pills. Some are so big it makes me throw up when I take them. Looking for an alternative

They ask a lot of questions about depression drugs and are you suicidal. A lot of questions are asked several times just worded differently.

Yes i have been doing that. Been having trouble getting enough fluids / Protein in. Maybe due to the hiatal hernia surgery I had at the same time idk. Trying to work on that hopefully that will help with energy level

Six weeks but seeing as I still felt so tired every day, I waited until 12 weeks to go back to the gym.
From week 4 I walked my dog and felt fine doing that.
Congraulations on the surgery
Kate
Thank you. Same to you

I'm 10 days post op. When are you cleared to start going to the gym? I'm still sore and pretty weak so I don't think I'm ready I'm just wondering what's the waiting period after surgery.
