jro5360 reacted to bossportsgal in Severely Missing Food
Lots of food and gross bad food like McDonald's is what got us here in the first place. It's an addiction and normal to feel like you miss it. But post surgery the hormone that tells your brain to eat is gone. So what we are experiencing is head hunger and acid reflux that can make you think hunger.
I'm one month post op and sometimes get so sad because I can't eat what the rest of the family is eating. But then I remind myself of how BAD real bad that crap is. I move my thinking to how good I'm going to feel and look and how already I am more focused and losing weight during this recovery of surgery. I'm starting back at the gym this week and looking forward to toning up.
It's just a matter of time for us to heal from this major surgery! We had a portion of a bodily organ taken out of us. Let's heal.
But I know it's hard. It's real hard. Focus on present moment and try to stay busy during those moments of "I'm hungry and want pizza" phase. It will pass!
Good luck all. I'm with ya!

jro5360 reacted to elliekay in 6 months! -95lbs and 73% to goal!
Hello everyone! Sorry for the undies but wanted to drop a progress pic to Celebrate my 6 month surgiversary!
(the plan was to wear the same clothes but the bra is too big to stay on anymore... I'm not complaining haha)
5'11"
HW: 300.0 (3/29/16)
SW: 278.4 (8/1/16)
CW: 204.5 (2/1/17)
GW: 170
Down 95.5 total, 73.9 since surgery
I was hoping I'd hit 100lbs lost/onederland by 6 months but I've been in what hopefully is just a stall for the past 3 weeks... the holidays were a struggle and I think that belatedly set me back a bit but I'm back on track so should see it moving again soon
As for actual measurements, I forgot to take them at my highest weight or surgery weight so my first set of measurements is from 8/25 (262lbs) but I've lost at least 6in from the smallest part of my waist, 5 from my navel, 7 from my hips, and then 2-4 inches everywhere else.
Still struggling to consistently get enough Protein and avoiding carbs but it's a work in progress!
Here's to losing the last 35lbs (or more!) before my 1 year surgiversary

jro5360 reacted to haylee_d in 30 lbs lost! :D
7 weeks post op tomorrow. Hit a stall around week 2 post op, and was stalled for almost 3 weeks. Since breaking through the stall, the pounds have been coming off day by day. I know it will come to a screeching halt again soon, but I'm so proud, I just had to share.
And, I just want to offer a little encouragement to the newbies who may be in a stall....Hang in there!!! Don't let it get the best of you! You WILL start losing again! It's a process that's unique to each individual. We aren't guaranteed smooth sailing, but stay the course, and you will reach your destination. ❤️️

I had surgery on 1/20 too! I weighed myself Monday and gained a pound! I was a pound heavier then when I began my pre-op diet. I was like wtf? Today (Wednesday), I weighed myself and I lost 7 pounds! Im thinking the fluids and gas they pumped into me during surgery was the weight gain and it took a few days to pass out if my body. Give it time, it will happen. Everybody's body is different...

It has been 5 days, right? How much did you think you would loose in 5 days? Not being snarky. Just wanting to know.
Post surgery you are likely to retain Water. You might not notice weight-loss for a little bit. Be aware that with vsg there is often a stall in weight-loss at around 3 weeks. Stay the course. It passes.
This takes time. You'll get there. It isn't easy but you can do this.

the first week you are still loaded up with iv Fluid so it would be shocking if you hadn't actually gained weight from that! Give it another couple of days and you'll see suddenly it drops quite a bit, just be patient and keep following the surgeons instructions

It is understandable!
Not loosing when you've taken such huge steps is hard. Even a little loss can boost someone.
I hope the changes happen soon!

jro5360 reacted to rydersmama in 1 year post op
It's been one year today since I had my sleeve done. My life has changed in every aspect.
My start weight was 333.1lbs
My weight this morning was 137.8lbs
That's a total loss of 195.3lbs!!
I've also lost a total of 95 inches...I'm a size 6 now...used to be a size 30.
I have accomplished this by being very focused and strict with my eating and exercise.
I eat very low carb, and always get in my Protein, Vitamins and Water every day.
For all of you just starting out, just know that anything is possible, and if you put your mind to it, you can achieve anything!!

This is my first day after surgery. The swallow test went well. My stomach still fell queezy, but I feel great. Just walked the hospital floor twice. Balance is good. Ready for the rest of this Weight loss journey.

I wasn't nervous until I woke up on my surgery day. I cried. I was scared! But I got dressed and went to the hospital. I had RNY on 12/21. My surgery went very well. No complications. I stayed overnight and was discharged the next day.
Keep walking, take your meds, and sip your Water....its your way to recovery!

I thought I was going to die. But I didn't. How's that for positive? It was the best possible outcome. Seriously. I am very happy I did it, and would do it again in a heartbeat.

I am right there with you. I go in the 25th. I have been keeping myself very busy to not think about it too much. I spent the day getting the house organized and errands to prepare for a 2 week down time. Feels like the "nesting" instinct that expecting moms go through.
Staying busy will pass the time. I am not required a pre-op diet but figure what the hell. It will give me a chance to try different Protein shakes and clear the carb and caffeine headaches ahead of time. Any loss before surgery is a bonus.
Time will fly, I'm just staying busy!
Good luck, keep us posted!!
