It is not just the BMI that would be a concern, they also consider HBP, cholesterol, Apnia etc. you should be ok to get an approval

sleevinpops got a reaction from julsfit in Nervous- getting sleeved in 3 days
This may seem crazy, but my wife bought a few small jars of baby food (turkey, chicken, beef etc). 6grams of Protein, 0sugar, 0 carbs and may be a perfect serving size for the new belly! Gonna clear with the Nur to be sure it's ok still. This would be in the purée stage of course...just planning ahead. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

Nervous and exited I got my insurance approved in one day. My surgery date is February 22nd I do have irrational thoughts of what if something happens (like cancer or another illness ) and I need my stomach and to late it's gone. Other than the irrational I'm reading a lot of gastric sleeve books and working on the physiological to make sure I'm ready

For me, weight LOSS surgery was really weight MAINTENANCE surgery. I have lost weight many many times in the past. But I always gained it back. The weight LOSS part is actually only a tiny fraction of your WLS journey. You will only be losing weight for a year or two. After that you will have to maintain for the entire rest of your life. WLS is a tool to help you do that.
PS: The weight lost in the pre-op diet is mostly Water weight. As your body is depleted of glycogen stores, the Water that was bonded to the glycogen is flushed from your system. But that is a finite amount of water. After that water is flushed out, burning actual fat is MUCH slower.

I think more people have those thoughts than don't!
But the thing is, the main point of the surgery isn't really losing weight. As someone who has lost 60+ pounds on 3 different occasions and 10 pounds countless times, I can tell you there are plenty of less drastic ways to lose weight.
The point of this surgery is maintaining weight loss. The chances of being able to do that without surgery are ridiculously low, but with surgery they are decent. The most recent and best study I saw for people with morbid obesity like myself showed that 1 in 677 can lose and maintain a healthy weight without surgery. My experience shows me I'm not that 1. Of course, YMMV...

    Hello Blev
I started out at over 300 lbs, I was 300 on the day of surgery. I am 45, so you and I are about the same age.
I also had a hysterectomy and gained a lot of weight after that. And I am bipolar and the meds really attributed to even more weight gain.
So I just wanted to say "hi" and that I was excited like you are! Congratulations on making the decision to have the sleeve surgery. My only regret is that I didn't do mine sooner!

Stop the sodas as soon as you can. Have you tried the mio flavor additive for Water? They're pretty good, 0 calories, 0 sugar. Walmart also has its own similar brand for about $1.00. Love the tropical fruit or watermelon/strawberry.

sleevinpops reacted to Newme17 in Blowing it, meant to be obese
Bless you hon. Now, I want you to do something. Stand in front of a mirror and tell yourself, "I will not be ashamed, I will not be embarrassed. My feelings are not true, I am not meant to be obese, but a healthy me". I can guarantee it will feel silly and it will hurt. You may end up crying your eyes out, but it's true. You do not deserve to be obese and aren't meant to be. Those are lies and do your best to not believe them ok.
Tomorrow is a new day, whatever happened in the past (food, cruise, etc) is the past. You can learn from it or you can dwell in it. Which one will you do?

There are probably some people who will always need their CPAP.
From what I've read and what my doctor told me, after I lose a significant amount of weight, I may no longer need it.
I will need to have another sleep study done to determine whether or not I still need to wear my CPAP. That is further down the road for me. I have lost a total of 68 pounds since I started using the CPAP. When the time comes, my doctor will let me know when I need to have another sleep study done. Then we will see what happens.

I'm bringing some gasx strips, hot Water bottle, and maybe a stomach binder (I saw a few posts that recommended, but gonna check with the doc too). Toothbrush and change of clothes should do it. I'll be interested to see other recommendations though. Good luck! We're almost there!
