My surgery is also the 3rd, but I'm up north at SRH. If u haven't already, there's a great UCLH bariatrics page on Facebook. X

I'm researching various Proteins now, but struggling. Lots of different info from various sources. It would be so much easier if there were universal guidelines lol x

Oh dear - I have a feeling we might have similar taste buds.... I remember looking forward to eating ice cream after my tonsil extraction and once they were actually out, ice cream seemed like the food of the devil! Just the thought would make me gag....
I was hoping they might allow me oat flour pretty soon after? I can make a savoury Soup out of that... just stock, oats and I guess I could add milk and unflavoured whey Protein to that also. I just cant see myself on a sweet diet - I do not have a sweet tooth.... x

Losing your sweet tooth seems to be something I've seen a lot of on here, so I would just avoid stocking up on them for now I would just try lots of different things to see what suits you when you get out, and if you find yourself not enjoying something, explore other options. My tastes are continuing to change 2 months post op. I think a lot of people add unflavoured whey Protein to Soups so that sounds like a great idea good luck! X

I have heard that sticking to something fairly benign such as vanilla or chocolate seems to fit with most people. I lost any interest in sweet things immediately post op so anything that was already sweet suddenly seemed disgusting.
I would get smaller pouches of powder first to try just in case you don't like them. I loved banana powder pre op and got a big bag then when I came back from hospital it tasted like vomit.
    It'll be a learning thing x

Speaking of myprotein - what are the best flavours? I don't do sickly sweet, hence I bought the unflavoured. Apart from that I'd probably get the coffee one. Has anyone got any suggestions?

Wishing you the very best of luck for your conversion surgery. I love the way you write, so open and honest with humour thrown in. I'm pre op, sleeve surgery is in around 8 weeks. It's so different over here in the UK, obviously we have the NHS so if you meet the strict criteria then your op is paid for. Then you just have to jump through whatever hoops the surgeon requires. Sounds like you have really been through the mill! Following your progress x

    Post op Day 3
I've been doing well. The gas is mostly gone. Just a painful spot when I move a certain or cough that I'm assuming is gas, intensity fluctuates but very mild.
I'm able to drink 10ml at a time without pain, if I don't drink too many sips at a time.
I technically advanced my diet early today. I couldn't stand anything else fruity and the broth/protein isn't agreeing with me. So in puréed costco broccoli cheddar Soup. Had about 1/4 cup split 2X. It was so satisfying to have a new flavor after 2weeks (including the preop).
I've been continuously active and got in a lot more liquid today
However, I realized I have to kick my Starbucks habit. Too expensive to not be able to enjoy the full cup, but i did order a mug warmer tonight
Said all of that to report that it does get better each day!

Amazon UK sell lots of Protein powder. I found it a must post op as needed to get the Protein in. Myprotein is a good option and they have dozens of flavours but I've moved on to Bulk powder just because my taste changes overnight and one flavour I like suddenly becomes disgusting. They normally come in 500g or 1kg bags which is unfortunate if you do change your taste because you can end up with bags you don't need. My friend brought round a box of his Protein Powder he uses for workouts and I tried one of each so was able to choose one I liked then order that one.
whey protein seems to be the best option.
My surgeon does want me off the shakes eventually once I'm getting all my protein in with food. Personally I'm happy starting my morning with a Protein shake as it starts me off with 26g protein already in (I have it with milk). Then the rest of the day is through food.
    Good luck! X

I have mine in 2 days, most UK surgeons don't do shakes! It's clear fluids and then mushy then solid, they want us on solid asap because the hunger pangs go and you stay fuller than with a Protein drink. There may be some surgeon s out there that do shakes but not mine. Hope all goes well for you.

I was told to use Atkins , or Carnation Breakfast Essentials "no sugar added" with one cup of fat free, or 1% milk, I was also told it has to be either or no mix and match. Sent from my 0PM92 using the BariatricPal App

I use upbeat Protein yoghurt drinks, available in tesco/waitrose etc and really nice. Nutramino lean are good for Protein Bars when you get to solids and need a convenient protein fix you can take out with you. Available from boots x

I'm having my op on Thursday (mini bypass) - I've bought unflavoured whey Protein and some flavoured sample shakes from myprotein - oh and oat flour too.
No idea what they recommend but I didn't want to come home just to have to go shopping....
