  1. Amen to that! Why not worry about yourself and spend your time learning all you can for youself? We will never know everything, that is for sure. It is up to us, individually, to learn and that can only come from our own experiences and taking only what we want from others comments. And as someone else pointed out and I am speaking from experience as well, everyone is different. We feel restriction differently, we can not all eat the same things,we are different ages, etc There are so many variables how can we ever answer the question you pose? I think after you have lived with the band for a while you will understand better.
  2. Thank you for presenting this very important article! Everything you have said is so true and I have experienced it all. I have also experienced being too tight for sure and for me, the pain, reflux at night and inability to swallow even my own spit was a sure indication. I had to wait a week to be unfilled due to an emergency and although I lost 12lbs that week, I would never recommend it to anyone. Luckily, no damage was done to me or my band. It is really hard to have to be unfilled and give your band a rest and try to maintain weight loss. I made it through and am now slowly getting back restriction. So, people,do mindfully eat slow and chew your food really well. And if you think you may be too full, get some taken out ASAP.
  3. Thanks for your support, Marie. I am off the pity pot today and feeling better. As long as I keep my protein up with my attitude, I should be OK!
  4. I was banded on July 7th and I am down 70 from my surgery date, 93 from my highest weight when I first decided to go for the band. I have done well, I know, but for a few weeks I was too tight and developed bad reflux/gas. Last week I had a full cc removed from my band to prevent damage and I feel as though all my restriction is gone. My head hunger is so strong and I am worried that I will gain. I know that for health I had to do this but I now feel so out of contol(at night.) I can't wait until I can get a small fill in Feb. This time, I need to get filled slow! Anyone else share this experience. There is such a fine line between your "sweet spot" and being too full. The thing is that as I was losing quickly, my band really didn't loosen up and I made a mistake getting a fill. Anyone else relate?
  5. I'm down 5 lbs! Almost at my goal weight and feeling great! 10. CoachCher- Thank you for your responce. I am wondering if we can buy tickets at the door on Sat. Some of my friends will not know whether they can go until close to the date and don't want to buy tickets in advance and then not be able to go. Thanks!
  11. Hi, Thanks for the info! I went on the bandedtogether.net link and am a bit confused. Hope you can clear it up for us. My friends and I are planning to attend but do not want to stay over and want to just attend all day Sat. We would not be able to make it on Fri due to work/family. Do we need advanced tickets or can we get them at the door? There is no problem in getting them in advance. I think I would even perfer that. What is the $30 extra charge if you do not stay at the hotel? Is that in addition to the $87.50? We live in Westchester, NY and I was banded at NYU like Alex. Are there more speakers other than the ones listed in the link that might appear? How about the NYU Drs? Please give us more info. Thanks so much! We are looking forward to the conference!
  12. I am down 2lbs to 197! Pretty good considering I need a fill desperately. I am starving all the time. I guess it is true, as you lose, your belly gets smaller thus the band gets bigger. Can someone please adjust my #s. Thanks! Congratulations to everyone on the great weight lose! barb12590............207.............197................187
  13. I weighed this morning and I am down to 199!! I can't believe I am actually under 200. It has been years! This was a great week for me. I am on a roll now! Can someone please change my numbers for me? Thanks so much! I LOVE MY BAND!!!!!
  14. But it looks like you have made up your mind to have it in NJ. I have read all the posts and truly missed when it was definitely decided on NJ. Can someone please repost that info. and any other updated info. specific dates, hotels, etc. I want to go for sure and I have to start planning now. Thanks!
  15. I am currently at 7.5 and definitely have restriction- to sweet spot. Had been too full and that was awful!
  16. I have exactly the same amount of fill as you, 7.6 in a 10cc band. I was banded a bit before you-7-7-08. My NYU Dr is aggressive with my fills and I am glad. It took me 3 fills and then a .5cc unfill to get here. Being too full is horrible. I am now restricted and losing well. I could not imagine having another fill at least for a while because of the small amount of food I can eat now. I have not gone back for about 7 weeks and have no plans to. Try not to worry about when you will need another fill. Everyone is different and someone elses answers will not be yours. Some people never experience restriction or learn how to live with the band. Since you just had the fill, are you on liquids for a day and then mushies a day? That is what my Dr wants you to do to allow healing. Since you just had the fill, you probably don't even know how much restriction you have yet. Give it time. Just think, some people have a band that only holds 4cc. I might worry about filling it too fast then. My restriction really varies on my moods, stress level, time of day and month. This is normal. So see how you feel once your body heals from this last fill. Try to be patient and work with it as best you can. Feel free to PM me if you want to know more about my experiences thus far. Good Luck.
  17. You can count me in! I would probably come with one or two Lapband.talk friends who live in Westchester NY with me. I would probably prefer it be in NYC if cost was the same. But would come to NJ if it was a big difference in $$. Can't wait to hear the details!
  18. You are an inspiration! Congratulations on your weight loss and your new life! I am excited for you. I hope people who are discouraged get to see your post. I am doing well with my band, too, and feel really lucky to have it. POWER TO THE BAND!!
  19. I agree with everyone else, it can be done and I am living proof-down almost 70lbs in 6 months! I was 273 in May and now 205. The band is a great thing and not such a hard tool to use once you have good restriction. It is so much less invasive than the bypass and you don't have to worry about malnutrition. The band is adjustable and you are much less likely to stretch the pouch and gain back weight in time. It is really important to find an experienced Dr! That was my main concern when I made up my mind to do this which is why I travel to NYC. Find one who has done alot and knows what he is doing. There is alot of stuff associated with being banded and the aftercare, not to mention the fills. Even if you have to travel, find someone who gives you positive feedback and is confident and experienced! My advise would be not to have it done unless you are sure your Dr is the best. Your life is in his hands!
  20. 2 lbs down! Can someone adjust me when they adjust their own? Thanks so much! Barb 207....................205.......................187.................2
  21. I was banded in early July of this year and feel that the band is the best thing I have ever done for myself. In the past few months, I have become a much happier person, mentally and physically! I am so much more comfortable with myself and my feelings about food have changed dramatically.
  22. Froggi, I agree with you as usual. I believe that Obama is going to live up to his promise of a changed America and boy do we need it! THANK GOODNESS McCain didn't win!
  23. I Love these challenges! I'm going to reach for the STARS! Unfortunately, I still can't figure out how to get myself in the right place on the chart .........SO SORRY  Your help is much appreciated. Hope I'm not annoying anyone. barb12590.........207.............207............187...............0
  24. I'm down another 5lbs from 10/19! Weigh in this Halloween morning-207!!!! It was a stressful and busy week and my band was tight so I didn't want to eat too much. Took my vit and went to bed early. It works!! Yea!! Final weight for me---207! 5-6 lbs down from my goal and I didn't think I would make it. YIPPIE!! Please adjust my numbers. Great job everyone!!
  25. I was banded by George Fielding on 7/7/08 and he did not require optifast. I drank mostly slimfast shakes blended with Protein powder. I was so bloated that I lost 23lbs during those two weeks! I don't know about the smoking issue, but Dr Fielding is not really strict about too many things. The other Drs may be different. Who is your Dr? Do you live in NYC? I am in Westchester. I am at good restriction and losing well after 3 fills and 1 unfill(it is no fun to be too full) I will be happy to chat with you. Sometimes it is hard to get answers from the office because they are so busy. There are several threads on this site about that. If you do a search, you can read alot of opinions about NYU. To me, Dr Fielding's expertise outweighted (PUN) any negatives. Do you have a date yet? GOOD LUCK!!!
