I lost so steady the first 3 months then went on a 3 month, yes month, stall during which time I had pneumonia so I wasn't eating much for a couple of weeks.

Nothing I did would budge the scale more than a pound each way. Then one day when I weighed in I had dropped 6# and never had another stall so guess my body did the stalls all at once. Stay with the plan. It can be discouraging at times but it does work.

That's awesome. My vice was soda. Massive amounts of it. Cherry Coke in particular. It was my fav drink to have with Captain Morgan, though I rarely had any alcohol. Along with my awful diet, the soda destroyed me. I used to joke before I was even diagnosed as type 2 that I was gonna have a big cup of "liquid diabetes". I had my last one the day before pre-op. Heck, last year I went 6 months without any of it. Would be funny if they had an AA program for soda-holics. "I'm 2 months sober!"

When I brought an ex of mine from Greece to the states for the first time, when she tried American fast food she threw up. Way too greasy, carb-laden, and salty.
I will point out that even with my pre-op diet I've still had Wendy's, McDonalds, and chicken + burgers from restaurants. My portions are much smaller, I chew much more thoroughly, and I found I get full much faster. I also take off the fillers, and don't consume the carb infested foods and drinks, like french fries, burger Buns, soda, etc. I exclusively drink tons of Water a day, and chew a lot of ice (I'm weird like that), and drink 1/2 cup of Calcium fortified apple juice with my meds (because they make me want to vomit taking them with water). Many simple/small changes can make extremely positive results in the bigger picture.

I agree. I strictly followed the guidelines in the first month when my stomach was still healing because I viewed that more as a prescription than a diet, but beyond that my focus was on cultivating sustainable habits, which for me meant not prohibiting any foods. When something becomes a proverbial forbidden fruit, the temptation for it tends to intensify. In the past I rapidly lost weight and then gained even more back even more speedily when I binged all that I'd deprived myself of while dieting. In the time following properly healing from the VSG I've had cheesecake, Diet Coke, pizza, Chinese food - all the things that make the naughty list, but the substantial difference is that I've had them rarely, and in far smaller portions. I lost weight at a slower pace than many (a perk of that has been no loose skin), but exceeded all my goals and have maintained a size XS / 2. I do urge people who post on this forum to follow the guidelines in their first month out, because the risks of harm are too high then. Beyond that, everyone needs to figure out what works the best for their own success.

Took me about 6 months after surgery to get my energy. Doc said this is normal and energy does kick in. I am 4.5 years out and everyone is different. Best wishes.

I feel like I am a true "slow loser" and it has been tough. I'm 3.5 years out (as of yesterday!) and still dinging away at the daily grind. I started out with a lot of weight to lose, and never lost more than 5 pounds in a single week after the 3rd month or so. Even today my current weight after losing 100 pounds is more than some people's pre-op starting weight - crazy! But my journey is my own and I'm not giving up just because it's been rough. I wanted to get healthier and I know I already am, even if I'm still struggling to my personal goal.
Back in the early days when I was more active on this web site, people would post about losing 8 to 10 pounds a week, every week - I could only dream of such a thing. Now that I'm this far out, it frequently feels like I never had surgery at all - it's a distant memory to me now - and each day I just work on sticking with my eating plan, staying within my calorie limit per my metabolic testing, and getting at least 2 shakes down per day to keep my Protein numbers where they need to be. I'm just another person trying to get healthy and all I can do is keep on with my plan.

I was also told the body can only process 30 grams of Protein at a time, any excess is not absorbed and is wasted. The suggestion of 20 grams per meal is a good one. But contact your NUT if you have questions.

I had to come home to a cleaned out home and had to move back to NC from Florida. It has its bonuses. It's like starting totally over. And generally I'm doing good. Working hard, and feeling better than I have in years. I'm paying my bills and spending time with my daughter. I had a great Christmas with her. But I spent New Years alone. I had friends invite me over, but I don't want to be the 3rd wheel. Not to mention I like having someone to spend time with. So there are good and bad points to being single. Oh...I started in late June, my first weigh in was 406.7. My RNY was on Sept. 6th, 2016. I was 376 that day. I have lost 143.3 lbs. At 263.4 lbs as of today.
