    Deserted.

Hey guys, My surgery is booked for the 19th of Jan. I only told my mom, my husband, and my best friend. My surgery is out of town. My mom won't come with me. My husband wont either (we have 2 school aged kids). My clinic requires someone to pick me up and stay with me the first 2 days post op. I am left with hiring a caregiver. I am so upset. How can you spend two days in a hotel with a stranger /rant
  2. Hi there! I'm a new member to these forums, maybe visited a while back.. Here's my story.. I'm 30, and in 2005 I had a lap band. about 3 years later, after ,maximizing inflations, it started working suddenly! I lost 100 lbs, down to 127 lbs, in a few months. I was pretty much throwing up everything I eat, and learned how to manipulate the "system". I'd eat whatever I wanted, then gulped Water, excused myself, threw everything up, returned to the table, and ate some more. Then I got pregnant, and I deflated the band completely. BIG MISTAKE. I gained the 100 lbs again during my pregnancy. Yes, in 9 months, I gained 100 lbs. I'm serious. ok my baby was probably 6 lbs. I got pregnant again, and didn't fill the band. Then suddenly, while pregnant, the band started working again, even though it was empty. When I had my second child, I was lighter than when I got pregnant by 20 lbs. In 4 months post partum, I went back down to 127. at that point, I couldn't eat anything. I threw up ANYTHING I ate, even water. I had to get IV hydration in ER several times. A barium study showed my band had slipped, and was causing complete obstruction. My potassium was dangerously low and I started to get arrhythmias. I was admitted for emergency removal. Here I am, 3 years after removal, back to 223 lbs, and 26 days away from my mini GB. I was completely against any surgery that will change anatomy, but after the suffering of losing and gaining a 100 lbs TWICE, I'm done. I want to create this thread for anyone who is having a MGB in 2017, to discuss our progress together, our preparations, and our outcome. I look forward to meeting more MGBers in the new year S
  3. I had an MGB on a thursday, flew home sunday, went back to work thursday. I was totally fine, walking a lot, and recovery was not an issue at all. Energy wise, if you forget to eat, you WILL be tired, I almost passed out because I was running on a Protein shake only. Good luck, I had a band before, SUCKED. I'm 10 days out and already love how low maintenance the MGB is <3

    Haters will always hate

I came across this topic a while back. Didn't pay much attention as I was fresh out of surgery (mini gastric bypass). I went back to work 1 week post op, and a nurse I work with said: you are wasting away! (It was the preop that caused the dramatic weight loss of *drumroll* 14 lbs If I'm "wasting away" after 14 lbs, what am I after 40? 80? I didn't have a ready come back, I said "I'm sick" lmao I don't know why. She shut up right away. I regret saying that now. Sigh.

    Mini gastric bypass

I'm 5 days post op, Had my surgery in Toronto, Canada. So pleased with the whole experience. Much LESS discomfort than when I had the band put in, or removed (It was the damn port).

    Upcoming Surgery

Glad it all went well.. My surgery is on the 19th, super excited. Got me a jealous husband too.. but sure if he's jealous because he wants the surgery too or because he's worried losing weight will make me feel superior and look for someone else? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  13. Hey guys, I am a lapband insertion/removal survivor, list 100 lbs and gained it all back and then some. Booked for a mini bypass on the 19th.. I work in a hospital.. and I couldn't get more than 6 days off. I go home the 20th, and back to work on the 24th. Assuming all goes well. Just wondering, is that too ambitious, I'm mostly sitting but do some procedures standing up. Also, if anyone asks you at work, and you don't want to say you had BariatricPal surgery, what do you say? How do you get out of it lol Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Surgeon visit

It will make gerds worse. So the RNY is better for people that have gerds. That's what I got out of it. I don't want the RNY I am 236 lbs now I have absolutely no desire to loss 100 pounds or more. I had my mind made up on 50 to 60 lbs. I would look soooo sick at 136. It just wasn't in my plan. Sent from my SM-N910P using the BariatricPal App I'm 222 and I'm getting the mini bypass, You lose a percentage of your weight, not absolute numbers. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Weight Gain After Sleeve?

Like they said above, you have to use your first year pot op to CHANGE your habits. I mentioned this elsewhere, i lost 100 lbs with the band, down to 127, I ate whatever I wanted and threw up . I was a BariatricPal bulimic. The band flipped, I had it taken out dec 2013, I am now 222. I am having the mini bypass, BUT this time I am NOT using the surgery to keep my bad habits, I learned this the hard way. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  20. GERD is gastroesophageal reflux disease. Obviously everybody is different, and I know myselfC if I have the sleeve, it might work at first but if I don't CHANGE my habits and way of eating/snacking I will gain the weight back, and need to have it revised. I don't want another surgery I mis-used the band, and I acknowledge that. I am willing to change forever Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  21. Hello lovely! We have *almost* the same stats, I'm 32, 5'3", and 220 lbs I had the lapband, went down to 127, it flipped, almost killed me, and had it taken out. Gained all the weight back. I was between the sleeve and the RNY, my surgeon recommended the sleeve also for the relatively lower BMI and because the band *worked* for me (both restrictive and not malabsorptive) However, when I told him I USED the band to throw up, and that I only lost weight because of that not because of *restriction* and feeling full, belt the bypass is better for me, so the pouch won't dilate. Also, the bypass is better for gerd and I used to wake up in the middle of the night choking with the band because of GERD. I'm going now for the mini bypass (one anastomosis bypass) in Jan. Hope this helps? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    January 2017 Sleevers!

Same date! I am allowed decaf coffee. 3 Protein shakes, and 250 cals of veggies. I am already decreasing my coffee intake so I don't lose my mind when I start the preop. I start on the 5th, when do u start? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Deserted.

I'm taking a 3 h flight, I am checking in a hotel 5 min from the clinic. If all goes well, I am to be discharged the next day, back to the hotel again. I will have to hire a caregiver (and I will pay, not my husband, who is not putting a cent into this). I really don't know what to think. I think subconsciously he is worried when I lose weight I will feel "better" than him? We were both overweight when we got married. Sigh. I can't wait for the surgery to happen and put all this behind me. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
