great question. i also wonder same thing. I haven't been at this weight since i was a teenager, and I'm 45 years old now. I am just loving the way i feel and look. I know i want to do skin remover surgery anyways so I'm on with what ever i drop off now. I think what is getting frustrating is how uncomfortable my weight is making people around me. They are so use to me being fat that now i am at normal size they say it to skinny for me. They just want me to look like i did. But i am on my journey and i will be what i am comfortable with. and that is taking this new life change one day at a time. best of luck.

I have come across Bone Broth for a great way to have protein without the meat. there is a lot on google on how to make. it is so cheap to make as well. after i make it i freeze it in ice cube trays then place in zip lock bag in freezer. when i make Beans, veggie, lentils, eat i place a cube of it in food to melt and it adds great flavor to veggies and the protein i need. check it out.

It is pretty important to try different weekly. If you are losing weight fast enough you will completely skip sizes.
If all you wear are stretchy clothes, if the scale isn't moving you won't see the loses the way you will feel them with clothes.
If all your clothes are stretchy I dunno. I feel like stretchy clothes are what let people get and stay fat. Prior generations did not wear the kinds of fabrics we wear, the clothes were built with structure and clothing was expensive. If you gained weight it was a major issue.
All of my clothes now are tight (If it has stretch it has to be tight as a drum) and fitted/tailored. If I am even bloated, I feel it. It helps keep me on track.

One year ago today I had my RNY bypass done! One year later and I'm down 125lbs and I have lost a total of 90.5 inches!!!!
I feel amazing, my knees don't ache every time I move and my feet aren't so sore from carrying that much weight around!
I don't get winded walking up a flight of stairs anymore and have found that I love jogging and I love yoga and riding a bike is fun again!!
I still struggle with who I see in the mirror so I take a lot of pictures. I take measurements every month or so and I Celebrate with activities instead of food now.
What a difference a year can make!

What a life changer. I love every bit of this process and my new lifestyle. Surgery went great and no complications, my energy high the whole time. So far no Hair loss.

Hi Tarver, Yes i also did same thing before surgery! I am a christian and i know my faith help see me through every bit of it. The Dr even said my healing process was faster then most. i was so desperate for this life change. No matter what, i am all in! For me it was not about the weight loss as it was about being healthy. I survived cancer two year ago and am in high range for another cancer, along with being 150 lbs overweight increases my chances even more and the newest addition was type 2 diabetes. This was the best decision i ever made! I am now diabetics free, off all meds and all my reports came back and i am cancer free still. I feel good! I am going to make this next half of my life fun, active, and amazing! Im 45yrs old going on 30! Blessing to you on your journey!

Hello, from the time i decided to get gastric Bypass to the surgery date was 1 month. I went to Mexico alone and had it done. Only a few really close friends knew about it and was not happy with me doing it. But my mind was made up and did it. Of course now they think this was awesome that i did it! Most all the people i know does not know i had RNY but last week i decided on my 6 month post op and i wanted to post before and after pic. but i knew people would start asking and wanting to know what i did. Do i say or not!. I decided to come out and share i did RNY. My hope in confessing was to inspire someone else like me who i know that might need to be encouraged. As it turned out, shortly after i posted on fb i was contacted and got to meet a wonderful woman who i encouraged and got her on this sight for more help. It is all worth it for the one person i can make a difference in there life. People have options and talk and sometime you just need to flush what they say when it is negative. I do feel much better that i came out. I do not focus on the surgery but on what i am doing now in what i eat and being active is mostly my conversation. Do what brings you peace. Do things in your own timing. For me Im only going to post one more time on fb when i reach my goal weight of before and after pic. Best wishes on your journey.

LisaKay reacted to James Marusek in How do you reach your fluid and protein goal?
It is common for your taste buds to change after surgery. Be willing to experiment. After my RNY gastric bypass surgery, my taste buds changed dramatically. Even Water changed. In the hospital it tasted excessively chlorinated and I could not drink it. So I experimented. sugar free popsicles became my best friend. Some individuals find hot or cold can help with fluids. For me, I found that I could tolerate flavored water. So I began using Crystal Light. I also found a new drink Bai which I liked cold. In the winter, I found that I tolerate Hot Drinks such as piping hot cocoa. But you have to use the "No Sugar Added" variety. Also fine English teas were very good.
The Fluid requirement is met by a combination. It is not only the water that you drink each day. But also the water you drink when you take your Vitamins and medicine. It is the milk you drink. It is the fluids content of the Protein Shakes. It is the water component of the Soups you take. It is met by flavored water such as Crystal Light. It is met by sugar free popsicles. It is met by tea and Decaf coffee. It is a combination of all the fluids that you consume during the day.
Many experience problems drinking Protein shakes. I hated them. But in the beginning I drank them, three 16-ounce protein shakes a day, in order to meet my protein requirements. You do not have to like protein shakes only tolerate them. There are many varieties of protein shakes available today. Experiment until you can find one you can tolerate. I used Muscle Milk Light (Vanilla Creme) powder blended with water and a half a banana. That worked for me. But on the opposite end of the spectrum, you might try premixed Isopure.
If you tried all the various varieties and still are unsuccessfully, then there is the fallback of fortified milk. 32 ounces of 1% milk fortified by adding 1 cup of dried milk provides 56 grams of protein. It also takes a dent out of meeting the fluid requirements. Mix up a pitcher and drink a little throughout the day.
Without sufficient protein, your body will scavenge protein from other areas of your body, such as your muscles. Protein is extremely important after surgery as its job in the body is to build and maintain tissues including your body's major organs and skeletal muscles. Protein deficiency, when continued over a long period of time can cause a disease known as protein caloric malnutrition. Common symptoms are poor healing, fatigue, Hair loss and muscle wasting. Immediate post op, protein promotes healing of the staple line and incisions.

I was very fortunate that the surgical center where I had my sleeve also had a plastic surgeon that specialized in post weight loss skin removal (he also assisted on my sleeve surgery, so I had an existing relationship). I thought about having additional consultations, but I had absolute faith, so opted not to see anyone else. I was 100% self pay for all of my surgeries, too, so I did contemplate going to Mexico, but ultimately, I was more comfortable staying close to home even if it was going to cost significantly more. From everything I read, it seemed like most people who were unhappy with their results, went in with unrealistic expectations. In my consultation & in my pre-op visits, I made sure that I understood what he was going to be able to do… and each time, the results were better than I expected! When you go for your consultation, be clear about what you want most as it's possible they'll recommend more than one surgery. Make sure you understand what is included in the price they quote. Does it include follow up visits? Will they correct dog ears or scar revisions if needed? Everyone heals differently, so if time off from work is an issue, I suggest planning for a long recovery (I'm big on hoping for the best but preparing for the worst). Make sure they're going to be available to you if you have more questions after your consultation… you really need to feel 100% comfortable with your team! Best of luck to you. It's expensive & the recovery is rough sometimes, but it's totally worth it!
