  1. HAPPY 39th BIRTHDAY TO ME!!! :D

Yep, today's my birthday and I'll scream it out loud for all the world to hear.  Why?  Not for birthday wishes, but because of the birthdays I had growing up weren't really celebrated too much.  When I became an adult, I would always be depressed on this day.  I had enough of it two years ago and had a revelation (thanks to my brother) and decided that from now on, I will celebrate my birthday and be happy on this day. I believe that this is the day that God has made and He and all His angels are rejoicing because I was made!!! I won't be sad anymore.  Sure, things come up, like today my four year old had the biggest epic fit over a pair of pants (and at school--the first ever) and also today, I'm missing work because I'm not feeling well, and have to go see the doctor as well.  I even weighed myself to see if I made it to onderland, but that didn't happen either.  But despite the negative stuff, I am well, TODAY IS MY BIRTHDAY AND I WILL BE HAPPY.

@biginjapan thank you hon! How have you've been? Haven't heard from you in a while. I remember you took a trip though...

@Newme17 I'm doing good I guess. Haven't been so good with food (not that I'm eating badly, I've just added things that probably aren't helping me much) so weight loss has been stalled for the last month (but at least I'm not gaining). I was busy travelling and then getting ready to head back to school. Now that things are back into a routine, I hope to get back on track (that includes being here more regularly too!).

    4. Newme17

      Newme17

@biginjapan routine is good for the most part. It's nice to have a change here and there but when we're focused on our health, it's hard. I totally get ya. I lost about 5 or 6 lbs this past month. I don't mind, it's a loss, but circumstances in my life went haywire for a few weeks. Like you, I'm back to routine and so I expect things to be a bit better than the last month. Glad you're back!

  2. Someone posted about the Hidrate Spark 2.0. Of course I had to look it up. Then I was ordering a purple one 5 mins later!!! Cannot wait to get it. It should help me immensely!  Wish I had come up with the idea....would have been making the big bucks. Lol

I just placed the order and got purple too. I was excited that they had purple. It's my favorite color. I wish the portion8 came in purple. Omg man I would make it all match lol

    3. Newme17

      Newme17

Lol. I almost got black! My portion 8 is gray. But my favorite color is blue, specifically sapphire blue. So teal, light blue, etc won't work for me. The purple was prettiest in my opinion. So glad you got one too!

    4. Sleeve1stFitNext

      Sleeve1stFitNext

Yeah, I was looking at the Teal and felt like it would be light and I would not pay attention to it. So purple was like the perfect one. Especially when it lights up.

  3. Today is a new day.  I will be positive and joyful.  LOL  Now that I said that, let's see what comes my way to try and get me off of my joyful high.  My kid's behaviors, hubby not listening to me (lol), an obstacle in the way of our remodel?  I will laugh through it.  Ha! (I'll have to update later.....)

So, I'm up early on a Sat morning.  It's somewhat usual.  I'm enjoying the QUIET of the house and drinking my last iced coffee, made with Chameleon brand cold brew, almond milk (unsweetened), and a tad almond creamer, caramel flavoring.  I have been having decaf for the past month or so, but I allow one cup of regular coffee once a week.  So this is my last and I'm enjoying it. :)

Pre-op starts Monday for me.  I'm to have a shake and go pick up my pre-op paperwork from the center I'm going to.  They said it'll take about 10-15 mins to go over.  I failed to ask if that's when I make my payment or not.  I'm going to pay using my cash rewards card, even though I have the cash (will just turn around and pay it off).  Why not make money, right?  I'll be doing two shakes and a meal for two weeks.  Of course, the meal will be restricted.  Not sure about snacks though.  I'm a snacker....and that's going to be the hardest part for me.  Overall, I'm ready to get this show on the road!!!

@Brit in Oz, great job hon. I'm glad to hear some normalcy to the diet at 6 weeks. I, too, cook healthy at home (always had). So I'll be able to participate with my family more later. My problem has always been snacks, I think. Not so healthy, but I do love raw veggies. We'll see what the pre-op diet entails for me in a couple of hours.

  4. So I used to do Pilates and loved the feeling of being stretched and limber afterwards. I decided to do a quick Pilates video and the first move was to lay down on the floor on your back and pull up your legs at a 90 degree angle. Easy enough right? Not when it feels like your tailbone is sitting on top of a metal rod!!!! I couldn't lay down properly. So I tried the next move, lay on your side to lift your top leg up and forward. OUCH! It hurt my hip bone!!! Then I rolled over to the other side to check, felt the same. Am I destined to get my stretches one standing up? Hurts way too much to be laying on my bones, they feel bruised and/or like I said, laying on a metal rod. Anyone else have this happen to them? Maybe it's weight loss? Maybe it's my age? I don't know!

Or you may need an extra comfy pilates mat. I brought I really thick mat for the gym when I am doing my stretches. The thin ones do not cut it anymore lol.

I'm not even sure that's going to work! I'd have to have a mattress. Lol

  5. Day 6 Pre-Op:

Hardest so far because it's the weekend. Family wanted tacos this morning and I couldn't have one. But I did well despite my feelings. Stayed very busy today. Got home from visiting with a new friend who will be having the sleeve too. Now I'm super tired.

Starbucks...I saw this on Pinterest. I got a tall two decaf espresso shots over ice and poured about 1/2 of a Snickerdoodle protein drink in it. It was soooo good! Next time I'll use a Pumpkin spice one. 😊 Yum!

  6. I woke up at 3:30 this morning. Why? I don't know! I couldn't go back to sleep though. Since 1:30pm I've been dragging. Tried a nap, but doesn't work with a 4 year old. So, I'm laying on my bed trying to not fall asleep (it's only 7:19) cause I don't want to be up at 3:30 again!!! Exhausted.

Thankfully it did! I even went to before 10pm last night, kind of wish I didn't, ended up awake at 4:55 (same time my hubby gets up). It'll just make me to go sleep before 10 again....not too bad I guess.

    3. MSinger

      MSinger

Yes, sometimes you gotta make yourself go to sleep to get things back on track. Stay away from the TV or any screens like phone, ipad, whatever else for a few minutes before bed. Maybe reading a book before sleep will help you drift off - this usually works for me.

    4. Newme17

      Newme17

I love reading books...kind of hard for me to put down. Unless I'm forcing myself to read a very boring book!!! LOL My best bet is to lay there with nothing. I usually sleep pretty good, so I'm sure I'll be ready then anyhow.

  7. Does anyone purposely go to bed hungry or do you eat if you're hungry right at bedtime? I've always ignored the hunger and went to bed. It's not acid reflux (haven't had any, praise God!), but real genuine hunger. I could eat anything right now. In the past (healthy days), I learned to just go to bed, something to do with making the metabolism work/calories burn, etc. don't remember exact science. Also in the past (non healthy days) I thought I'd be hungry and would end up eating a snack before bed. But that was refux.  So even though I'm genuinely hungry now. I wouldn't even want to start up that terrible old habit I had. I think I posted my status out of even thinking of getting something to eat, even if it's healthy.

I know people are iffy on eggs, but they are such a good reset food. Lots of protein, lower calorie... I feel bad for folks whose sleeves don't agree with eggs because they are such a good food source.

I refused to eat before bed time.

  8. I found a blog on Pinterest of a lady doing an arm workout. Showed her amazing results after three months.  12 min a day. I think I'll try this and do a before and after on it too.

So after being back at the gym, I find myself loving it, but also thinking I could save my money to go towards a breast lift and workout at home/school track, etc instead.  I'm on the fence about it right now.

      Newme17

Yes, I agree with you @russdroppings, but for me personally there are many factors that can play in getting some amount of shape back...I don't believe I will need any kind of plastics for my arms after I reach goal. They were somewhat muscular before I had the surgery. I lifted them up in flex pose and wiggled my arms around and there wasn't much to wiggle before that. Also, even at my healthiest weight 10 years ago, I've always had bigger arms than most. They're naturally not thin. Although I lost some muscle from not working out right before surgery (due to an injury mostly) and right after surgery, I'm back at it and happy to say not much wiggling goes on anymore. Also, I haven't carried this much weight more than a decade (hope this helps a bit too) and I'm still in my 30's, albeit late 30's, but hey, I'll take it if it means less skin ! :) We shall see!!!!

    3. Newme17

      Newme17

@biginjapan and @Thejeweledsleeve, have ya'll tried it? I love it. My 7 year old does it with me. I did it with 5lb weights, but some of the exercises were kind of hard with the 5lb-er.

  9. Takes me an hour to eat a greek yogurt and I haven't been sleeved yet. LOL

  10. Here's a nice article, science based, about where I get my proteins from, having a Whole Foods plant based diet.

    https://nutritionfacts.org/topics/protein/

It's my understanding that we get too much protein (in the western diet). I am eating my complex carbs and still building my muscle. I just flexed to feel it. LOL My husband has also let go of all the animal protein and he's body building and noticeably getting larger. So, the whole notion about having to have so much protein to keep muscle isn't true in my opinion. I do weights three times a week and eat my plant based diet and I'm still building.

There will always be blogs/articles out there to support whatever diet someone chooses. It's our duty to pick it apart and ask questions. Most all of them will be cherry picked for obvious reasons. The book I'm reading, the bariatric doctor emphasizes on really learning to distinguish what's in a report, and too many of them are written by journalists, not real scientists (they don't have time to blog); thus we all believe them to be true. I was given a website by a fellow BP member to look at. This website is fact/science based. It's not an opinion. There are many videos that explain in depth how the body works...how it breaks down animal proteins, plant proteins, etc. There are so many topics discussed on this website that we could all learn from. nutritionfacts.org Sure, the author/doctor of the website (he has a book too-HOW NOT TO DIE) advocates a whole foods plant based diet, but he doesn't just state it, he shows the science behind it all; all the health benefits from it, just like bariatric Dr Garth Davis in his book Proteinaholic. It's fascinating stuff.

All scientific sources are cited as well.

Just one last comment before we agree to disagree.

You just had wls, you are not getting enough food to build at this point. At best, you are preserving muscles, which is great. https://www.muscleforlife.com/build-muscle-lose-fat/

This was just the first link, I can site a ton more. This one is interesting though.

Back in 2011-2012 I lost 67 lbs in a year, I also gained about 15 lbs of muscles. I worked out 6 days a week, but up to 12 times. I eat low carb. I lifted weights 4-5 times, and we are talking like 225 deadlifts, 160 lbs squats etc, with a trainer. I also ran (training for a half marathon), biked and swam, (training for a triathlon).

From what I understand (I could be mistaken), these changes you have made are fairly recent, meaning, there is not enough time to see if you have gained muscles (and as mentioned above, highly doubtful). You are loosing fat, meaning your muscles are becoming more prominent, it doesn't mean that you have built.

Last, a great link in general, nothing to do with this is better than that.

      http://www.bodyrecomposition.com/

He has 14 articles just discussing protein, all based on research. And he talks about all different kinds. I haven't read them all, and I can't say which he favors, but it is so interesting. He is siting a lot of research under each article. I though you might enjoy it.

I'm reminded just ow my words to him the other day (he works out with a Marine), "your body can do so much more then you think you can." I guess I should chew my own words and do this thing. 12. So I've been trying to wake up early and get my workouts in, only did it twice.  I can't seem to shake off my tiredness in the mornings!  I know if I kept it up, I'd make it into a habit and it'll get easier, but I don't know if I want to do that.  When I workout in the evenings, take my shower, I'm so ready to lay down and sleep.  I think I'll stick to my evenings.

Now, if I decided to stop working, then I'll do mornings...around 9 or 10.  LOL

@biginjapan it is hard with work schedules and when/if you've got young kids, etc. finding the time can be hard. Apple has been able to get up in the am. But don't feel bad if you can't make the intentional workout as much as you'd like. Exercise only accounts for 20% of your physique anyhow, tsbawesome for your overall health but to lose the weight, diet is 80%. Don't you walk a lot to work/from etc? Or am I mixing you up with someone else?

    4. Apple1

You are right about diet being the most important!!

I think I have the most flexible schedule with no kids left at home. I can also show up to work anytime between 8-9 am or later lol. I am on salary so if I am late I just stay a little later in the afternoon to make it up.

  13. Guess what!?  I haven't had a single bout of heartburn/acid reflux since being sleeved and changing my lifestyle diet to plant based.  AMAZING!  I believe it has to be the diet more than just being sleeved, since I've read that so many are having issues with it after being sleeved.  Makes you wonder...huh?  ;)

Honestly, it is over eating that causes the GERD in my opinion. My GERD is a foamy, hot pressure in my stomach and throat. This only happens when I accidentally overeat something or something that I put a little too much spice in. However, I am soo happy that you have not had any heartburn. It is a huge relief.

  14. It's been a while on a status for me, but I would like to know if anyone has experienced this about 5 months post op sleeve...it started yesterday.  I eat a bite of something and instantly I feel it hit my stomach.  I've only had a few bites of food today for the sake of my stomach, so I'm very tired (but I've been taking my vitamins) and my motor skills are lacking.  I've dropped many things today.  I feel like I'll just drop myself as well, but I still managed to clean, do laundry, and wash/clean my car.  Usually I'm pretty upbeat and have tons of energy, but this is new.   I'm about to go lay down for a nap just to see if I can revive myself somehow.

@Apple1 I thought that was just me....only eat a couple of ounces, if that, and I feel like I'm stuffed. Guess it's part of the process. I don't mind not eating much, but it did kind of alarm me a little. Trying to stay calm during all these changes and make mental notes that this is normal and easy stuff to correct, if needed.

    3. Apple1

      Apple1

I think I have read some posts on here where people have said that if you have a day where you eat softer less dense foods your sleeve may seem smaller when you try to eat denser foods again. Maybe that is what is happening? I love my salads, but they are like slider food for me. I think this may be my problem because then if I try to eat some beans or a curry I get full after like 3-4 bites.

    4. Newme17

      Newme17

@Apple1 makes sense to me. Maybe that is the culprit...cause I do like to eat a lot of kale and I'm grateful I can eat somewhat normal with it, but like you, beans and rice and pasta, makes me way too full. So, a few bites is all I get in. Reminds me...I need to make my kale salad now.

  15. It’s been a while since I’ve posted a status. Well, I quit my job at the beginning of the year. Yay! Now I have time to focus on my body. Been at the gym consistently this week. Thank God for muscle memory, it’s real. I’m sore but that’s a GREAT thing at this point. I’m still going strong on my WFPB lifestyle. I won’t ever turn back. I did have a little turkey one Thanksgiving and a little ham on a Christmas though. It was good but not enough to make me stumble. Lol. I’m just about 8months post (in three days) and I’m down 81 lbs from my highest and 74 from surgery. Blood work is always good and no complications ever. One of the best decisions I’ve made for myself. I’ll post pics next status.

Now, I hope I can claim all my expenses from surgery for tax time. Lol

I am starting my taxes, I have claimed over $5,000 in medical expenses. Between, compression garments, protein shakes, payments on hospital stay, co-pays and therapy for my ankle which is still ongoing. I did not realize I spent much. 17. Sleeved this past Monday. The first 24 hours were just awful but normal, I guess. Got way better yesterday. I decided to stay the one extra night. Ins paid for it and I wanted to use what attention I could get medically and have a small break before heading home to three young girls. Lol. The incision site where they stiched my muscle, is very sensitive and hurts when I cough/laugh, so I'm looking to get a smaller binder to help put some pressure on it. Gas pain wasn't too bad, just burped everything out. Overall, I feel pretty good. Could use a nap though. Just waiting for my discharge papers. 😊

      Way to go!!!!

  19. Yes, I'm still up...9:18. Trying to stay up for a few more mins. I am here in bed, lights off, thinking about how "all of a sudden" my body is aching the way it did with 25+ lbs on it. Is there such a thing as a period after weight loss when all the previous aches and pains decide to come back and wreak havoc? Hip bursitis has flared up pretty bad. My other hip is achy. I felt like my collar bone was about to snap with a piercing pain earlier. All I did was lift up the clothes hamper. My knees are aching an awful lot. Usually happens with bad weather coming but there's nothing in he forecast that I know of. Of course my shoulder that was injured in an accident few months back hurts. My feet hurt again, they haven't for a while and now they do???

All I know is that I'm WAY TOO YOUNG for these issues. Please tell me something gets better!?!? Almost feels like I'm going backwards.

Now, I know I need to stay positive and work through these things. I think my lack of sleep is coming out with the complaints and not so positive attitude right now. My poor kids felt the mom-not-herself attitude earlier. I'm made it to 9:25. I think I'm calling it quits. Goodnight y'all.

I'm sorry you're hurting. I have problems with humid weather from old injuries. Sometimes I'll have days where my entire body is cracking and popping - back, fingers, toes, elbows... I sound like a bowl of rice crispies! I hope it gets better. Rest up and take care of yourself :)

      @Newme17 - I so feel for you!

I haven't had anything "old" flare-up, but I have noticed that various bits of my body get creaky and cranky for short periods of time (up to a week) and then it kind of disappears. However, I have had a long history of bad backs (herniated disc), bad feet (plantar fasciitis and now it appears that I have heel spurs (no more fat padding!)), and perennially bad knees. As I result, every time I try to "step it up" to increased my activity, something always happens that sets me back worse than I was before I started, and for much longer. Now, luckily the weight is not so much the issue, but I do know that after turning 35, and especially after turning 40, things begin to go rapidly down hill! (at least they did for me). So I'm taking the activity part of my weight loss slowly - lots of walking, hills and stairs are okay, but nothing even remotely high impact or overly strenuous (although I'm now at the point where I do think it would be safe to go a bit harder). I also have to find some lighter weights to use, because the ones I currently have at home (which in the past seemed too light for me) are now too heavy and may cause injury if I continue to use them for weight training (I've been using the video on YouTube you suggested a while back). So...that's a long story but basically I think you are doing the right thing by taking a step back for a little while. We have to learn to listen to cues from our bodies, and remember that changes take time.

  20. So, this past Friday I let my boss know that I will be having my surgery on May 15th.  She never responded back.  So, her husband (the owner) came in and I told him (she had already talked to him).  He says, "ok, we'll make it work"  They're due to go to Argentina for vacation that same very day!!!!  lol  She wanted me to be in the office that week while they were gone.  Well, guess what!?  I've been planning this for almost 6 months (4months since I officially started) and I will not be changing my date for her to get her stinkin vacation.  I told him that I've been waiting for this and that is what it will be.  May 15th.  I could already see her reaction, calling her husband and complaining about the timing.

    Well, THAT's JUST TOO BAD!

  21. It’s been a while since I’ve been here. I have to be honest, I got fed up. But, I needed some refreshing to get my mind focused on my health again. Weight loss has slowed significantly, due to a lot of physical stress and holiday preparations. One year I’m going to refuse to do anything for the holidays and let everyone else do it all!!! Just how I feel at the moment. Anyway, haven’t been able to workout either (the pits!!!) been over a month now and I feel very weak, it’s gross. All those weights I’ve done just went out the door. ☹️ Past injuries keep creeping their ugly heads up and it puts a stall on my being able to work out. I’m not worried about my diet, it’s still good. Just wish I can get my body stronger now. Sounds like a lot of complaining but it is what it is now.

Anyone deal with extensor tendinitis in the foot?  Extremely painful...that’s what’s keeping me from moving forward workout wise. I hate it. And a stupid past shoulder injury that won’t let me lift properly. 😡

@Thejeweledsleeve, I am not consistent as much as I should be. I try to stretch but it ends up hurting worse. I applied some Deep Blue essential oil blend and cream for a couple of days and it felt pretty good. I’m going to have to continue that and rest my foot as much as possible. Besides cardio, I should have my butt back in the gym doing weights at least. Gotta get back to routine...that’s the hardest part of all this.

@Newme17 I know how you feel. I use a rolling massage ball for my foot and ankle in the morning and before bed. I then stretch it while laying in bed. It seems to help loosen it up from a night of being inactive. You will get back into the routine. We all fall off at some point. The point is, to get back on track eventually.

@ThejeweledsleeveAbsolutely. I need Christmas parties, trips, broken bones, surgeries, sicknesses, spending, and everything else off the table right now!!!! I think I’ll get down and stretch now too. Take some deep breaths. Lol. Thanks hon.

  22. Best part of today...find out I only have a $497 copay and not $2000.  :)

Oh yes, but I also found out I have to fork out $814 to get a piece of my gum removed that's being pinched by a filling that was put in a few months back....so, there it goes. LOL

  23. Sooo...I decided to keep a pair of brand new dress pants that I've never worn from the past two years (that I could also never wear due to them being way too small) for when I need a pair to wear. I decided to try them on this morning (for an important appointment this week) and they are now too big! Lol. :P

Thank you all. For good measure I decided to try on some shirts that I've kept and they fit now. I've made a note to wear them before I can't. :D

I've had this "problem" as well - one week (or so it seems) the small pants are too small, and then when I try them on again they're too big! Unfortunately now I do not have a single pair of pants that fit me - the smaller 16s are just that little bit too tight (like, if I bend over, either they, or I, will split) to wear at all. So now I'm stuck with one skirt (luckily it's a jean skirt, so it's pretty sturdy) for the next week until I get to Hong Kong where maybe I can find something that fits me!

  24. I was naive, thinking I can build my muscle as fast as my weight is going. Maybe if I was doing it all the time, but no...I'm turning in to jelly!!!! Lol.

Thanks MSinger....I used to do weights all the time, and had that muscle. I've noticed I've lost muscle these past few months (out from an injury) and so the journey begins again. :)

You got this. I work out and my body is not toning the way I thought it would. I am giggly baby lol. It is okay. I think once the fat is gone, that is when our toning truly begins. It is just right now our body's are still getting use to the lack of food and are trying to stay in survival mode.

  25. I'm usually not a cardio gal (even though I do cardio) but I'm digging in getting my cardio in with JUST DANCE. I haven't had a session yet without my girls in it.  They love to dance/workout too.  Even if I do a YouTube workout video, they're in it.  I want them to always remember the days that they worked out with me.  I did the same with my dad back in the 80's when he had an exercise class he taught.  That's where my love to exercise came from....I just pray and hope they don't let go when they get older as I did.

Yes, I should be shaking my booty with you guys, also. I losing my booty might have lost my booty forever. Do you love the fast music or a combo?

    3. Newme17

      Newme17

I like the combo but I like the slower more intense kind than the jumping around all over kind more. Probably because my body doesn't move the way it used to. I was doing a workout earlier and they had fast hamstring curls in it. Those are pretty easy but I couldn't get my legs up fast enough with the video. Lol. I feel like I need to stretch though.
