Okay, so I am 8 weeks out and thrilled to be 35 lbs down! Tonight my hub told me my voice has changed since the weight loss! Has anyone else had this experience?

Voice is lower or higher? I haven't heard this before. I'm interested to see if anyone else has had this too.

When I had my surgery, there was snow and ice everywhere; walking outside wasn't an option. I would pace the hallway in my house every hour for about 10 minutes. Then when my wife got home we would load up and go to the nearby Meijer. While making my lap, I would inevitably end up in the grocery side of the place. Though I don't remember it being enticing. For me it was more nauseating.

However, by the time I was at the soft foods stage, I was having feverish wet dreams about food!

Meijers....haven't heard of that store for 25 years! Used to live in OH. This is off topic, obviously...but I really enjoyed this:

"your success is not dependent upon my support. If you fail, it's not the forums or sleeves fault. It's yours." RIGHT ON!

Tonight was fun as I pushed all the meat and lovely vegetables away so I could strain a cup of Delicious bone broth out of the Crockpot. Honestly in the past I never would eat much of the broth but now it is a delicacy after making it through the day on Protein shakes. This Upcoming Surgery has reminded me to be thankful.

You're going to rock your journey, you know that? :) Wow.

  5. From time to time I think about what it's going to mean for me not to be going out to eat with my husband on date nights and my family on Sundays after church. We don't go out too often, but I do still think about all the money I can save, and still even go out to eat but enjoy a few bites, but mostly find alternative things to do other than food. Walk on the beach (yeah, I live by the beach), concerts, ferry rides, rodeo, cirque de soleil, outlet malls (definitely doing this)! I'm training my mind now that food is fuel, sure, we can enjoy it, but it's not what is going to control me. I'll be controlling it. :)

  6. definitely increase it. You've got the right idea about gaining by starvation mode. We aren't made to live a 1200 calorie diet forever. I've posted that the 1200 calorie diet is for someone who is 4'2" and 80lbs (and that is to maintain). I can probably say almost everyone here isn't that height and weight. Otherwise, you'll be right back to where you started, yo-yo dieting. You lose, you gain a lot. You lose a little, you gain a whole lot more! you have to take risk to go higher in calories, until you really understand the science of why and how it works. But here's a website that, once again, I've shared with others here about people stopping the 1200 calorie diet to eat properly for their body, height/weight/activity level. www.eatmore2weighless.com

Check it out and congratulations on your getting married!!! Marriage rocks...at least mine does! :) Many blessings to you hon!

I had chewable Vitamins for the first few months. I tried regular ones at 3 months but was sick after taking them and it put me off. Since 9 months I have been taking regular tablets and Im fine with it.

Thyroxine, I took sublingualy, which I already did pre-op. My BP tablets and Prozac - I didn't take for the first week. After that I used to break the capsule and add them to soup/food when I was cleared to have them.

    Kate

I'd think the chewables would make you full, did they? Or even the pills, for that matter. I'm almost weary of taking pills knowing that I have to sip, especially in the beginning.

Wow - that update ate some text! Well, OP already knows what I said about waiting 3 months and trying very small half flat sips for the Probiotics. And talking to my NUT. And waiting like, a half hour between sips. Oh - and being really careful of the carbs - some are way more sweetened than others.

As for the Jello, some of the paleo crew make kombucha gummies for the probiotics. You might want to check those out - Gelatin and kombucha probiotics are a powerful gut health combo. I just made very weak Jello post-op using Great Lakes Gelatin dissolved in Water and then whisked into some flat kombucha. It was okay - I really, REALLY would not risk any carbonation right after surgery. I keep meaning to try some newer versions just for the jello and general gut health aspect, but haven't gotten around to it.

Do you like kefir? The stuff in the states has had the carbonation killed off, but I did drink unsweetened kefir with a couple drops of flavored stevia post-op. Again, mostly for the probiotics. But it's not a bad yogurt drink, either. I have never been an unsweetened person, but tastes change and post-op, the sweet leaf berry stevia drops are pretty good.

I want to say I've had kefir before, but I just don't recall. Thanks for the info on the gummies, I'll look into those too. I only really started drinking kombucha for the gut health. I was having a lot of trouble with my digestive system when I started and found them to really help, the taste was great too (certain brands). I'm going to look up the gummies. I would rather just stay away from carbonation altogether after surgery anyhow. Thank you again!!

  9. Sorry. Not trying to be offensive by any means. This is why I don't and won't be weighing myself (I'll let the doc do this). Stalls will happen. Focus on how good you feel and how the clothes are feeling bigger, etc. Focus on doing what the doc has given you to do. Put your mind to other matters than numbers on a scale. Save yourself the stress and headache of worrying. Many blessings on your journey!!!

Yes only because I am suppose to have everything by next wk so my papers can be sent to my insurance for approval. If I dont get a call back tomorrow I'll call the weight loss office and see if I just add extra months for my weigh ins and look for another PCP

Hon, I'll be praying for you. Let's hope the doc and derm have a change of mind and heart about it, ok.

I'd be very careful with hotYoga. You're likely doing to sweat A LOT and dehydrate. Start with your normal yoga and wait until you are able to get all of your recommended Water in.

    AGREED!!!

  12. Thanks for all your thoughts. My experience has been that the calorie calculator thing doesn't work, which is why I'm curious about other ideas such as raising your set point. The conventional calorie calculators say that I should be able to eat about 2100 calories per day to maintain my current weight. I track my calories faithfully and usually eat around 1200 per day, and have actually gained a few pounds doing so. The problem as I understand it is that because we have lost weight through severe calorie restriction for a long period of time, we've messed up our metabolisms. The 2100 calories is probably what a "normal" person who has not been on a calorie restricted diet would need to maintain their weight. That obviously doesn't work for people like me who have lost a large amount of weight on a very calorie restricted diet. I feel like if I started eating anywhere close to 2100 calories per day I'd blow up like a balloon! I also can't imagine having to stick to only 1200 calories per day for the rest of my life! That's why I'm really hoping some of you have had success with this raising your set point thing.

There is a group called EAT MORE 2 WEIGH LESS. Check it out. There are hundreds of reviews of people who went from 1200 to 2100 calories and saw a weight loss. It takes faith, courage, and yes, a risk to the t it out. But it does work. I've done it before, but didn't make it my lifestyle, thus I gained weight. I was eating too little and gaining weight. My doc kept getting on to me about it. Anyway, I upped my calories to 2300 a day while I was lifting weights. My body was changing and losing inches (which is, in my opinion, a much better gauge than actual pounds). Currently I'm pre-op and doing the same thing. This time I'm not tracking calories but I know I'm eating as much as I need to be. I'm also lifting weights again. So, yes, it works. Have faith.

    Oh, the site is http://eatmore2weighless.com/

  13. 1200 calorie diet isn't meant for long term, EVER! Unless you're 4'2" and 80lbs (for maintenance). Hardly think anyone here is that, or even that to goal. The nutritionist are right and the whole set point thing is right. It's where we are physically that matters. Having surgery actually starts the resetting of your metabolism, so it's correct. Eating less because you are getting smaller is correct too.

  14. Personally I do maybe 60-80. I would do more only if on weight days. I've read that the body really cannot digest more than 35 grams at a time. So, maybe 35 in the morn and 35 in the evening is probably the best bet. I'll need to find the science/study. Anything more than 35 is basically a waste. Let me find it.

I could also be wrong too. The internet is so full of contradicting science. Good grief. Best bet, do what your doc says. I'm sticking to the minimum. It's always been just fine for me and my muscle building.
