I am very sorry to hear about your daughter and the other unfortunate problems that occurred postop. OMG. I know God is able to bring us all through to a complete recovery and a thinner healthier life. I just completed the physic eval this past Monday. So, if I'm deemed stable enough, I guess I'll be getting a date really soon. I'm looking forward to becoming a healthier me, but I don't mind telling you I need your prayers for strength and courage.
Let's keep praying for the success of the entire Bariatric (Sleeve) process and all who are depending on healthy outcomes. Pray for the doctors and the medical staff and the hospitals that they are all what they need to be in order for us to obtain the best and healthiest outcomes that we and our loved ones are seeking.

Please do. If you would like prayer, please let me know. You can PM me. I'd even be happy to ask on my church prayer chain for you. They don't need full names or anything. They do keep stuff confidential, and I can attest to that.
I'm so sorry this happened but at least it sounds like she has a decent doc. There are many who aren't.

ColleenErin1974 got a reaction from Newme17 in Cramping and Spasms!
Magnesium citrate is use to empty the bowel. How it works is it pulls Water from the body into the intestines to help expell feces. This action alone will cause cramping do to dehydration. You may be drinking enough in your eyes, but the magnesium pulls away your fluids and that alone gives cramps, but your body is also stripped of certain nutrients. It can decrease your potassium and increase lactic acid production which causes the pain and cramps.
Try eating 2 bananas a day to increase potassium and help with cramps. Also, try adding pedialite a couple times a day. This will help balance your electrolytes. Just keep as hydrated as you can and try to stay away from caffeine.
I hope this helps! Good luck!

I understand...we all do. I didn't sleep a wink the night before, and I was his first surgery that morning. Your surgical team does this all the time and can tell when patients are anxious. Mine certainly did. It will be over before you know it. [emoji4]

@nocturnalgemi thank you for your kind words and support. I'm definitely going to share with my surgical team/anesthesiologist about my anxiety. From your lips to Gods ears that I will wake up like I've had a long nap and not feel a thing.

Ugh I hated that gas they pumped me with because pre-op I weighed 237. Post-op it put me up to 248. Between that and all the IV fluids, I thought "this can't be right" lol. But you're right, walking often is the best way to get rid of it.

Your nervousness is completely normal. You'll be fine, I promise! Let your surgical team know about your anxiety, especially your anesthesiologist. They should be able to give you something to help you relax (I called it "happy juice" lol). That's what they're there for, to help make this as comfortable as possible for you! And when you wake up, you won't feel a thing. You'll feel like you've woken up from a nice nap. Think about why you're having the procedure and how much better you'll feel once you have no more heartburn! AND you'll lose more weight! So you'll feel better overall! Remember we're all here for you if you need us!

Anticipation is the worst. I'm pre op for RNY, but I have had a number of surgeries on my belly that are similar because of it being laporoscopic. The air they put in your belly sucks, but when you walk that will subside. You may be a bit more sore do to having 2 procedures in one.
Voice all of your concerns in pre op. The doctor will see you before you go in. Anesthesiologist will also see you prior. Tell them what you are worried about and they can reassure you before surgery. You will have a pre op nurse too and you can chat with them also.
You will be on good pain meds and anti nausea meds too. If you're having more pain than you can handle, speak up and tell your nurse. They want your pain under control and have you as comfortable as possible. You will be ok. Every day you'll feel better, give it time.
Good luck and God bless! I'll keep you in my thoughts!

I totally understand. I'm pretty much the same way now. I just am having a hard time. Wanting to find someone local, but not sure how to do that. Everyone I find online that I manage to hit it off with is in another state and then they disappear after they see a picture of more than just my face. I'm so tired of trying anymore. Of course maybe that's the problem. Maybe we are trying to hard? It will come when the time is right?

I recently watched a surgery on here of a sleeve conversion to a mini bypass. The stomach looked obviously bigger than sleeve surgeries that I've seen and the doctor noted how a little stretching like that over time was normal with the sleeve.
How do you explain a visibly larger sleeved stomach like that if stretching of the stomach isn't possible?
Not trying to be rude or say that you're wrong, I'm just curious where your information is coming from. Especially when surgeons who perform these surgeries and physically see the stomach over time in situations like this claim otherwise.

Exactly. Why do some people assume that every one got fat because of "unhealthy food" ? I happen to come from a place where the staple is Tubers and leafy Soups. Believe me, you can still gain a huge amount of weight from eating food that in moderation is considered balanced. I got sleeved to help with Portion Control. I sometimes have the odd bagel here or a few spoons of rice there, as long as I monitor what I eat, and make up for it, no big deal.

So many people ask about pizza and some other 'unhealthy' food. Immediate post op, several cravings happen. I remember craving red velvet cheese cake for some reason. You may be surprised that their interest in those foods may disappear when they start eating solids. As for recipes, one can only hope that folks are smart enough to ask for important information like calories or carb/protein content, e.t.c

Going forward, there are so many posts about unhealthy food and eating too soon after surgery. There are even too many posts complaining about there being 'too many posts about unhealthy food". One principle I use is that "we are all adults". Anyone seeking advice should be told the truth. If the person refuses to listen, then move on. Before they joined the forum, you had no idea about their existence, so why allow yourself to be so perturbed? If you feel the information is dangerous, drop your facts and move along. Everyone will eventually learn.. and if they don't, it's not on you.

I have been struggling for the past 6 months to quit smoking so that I can get my bypass in June. Well I'm here today to tell you.... I'm through! I quit! I'm done with those nasty little things. I have to much riding on this. I'm not going to fail this time. As hard as it's been in the past to quit for some reason I just sat them down and said I quit. I know it's not going to be easy. It's going to be hard for sure, but I'm a stubborn woman! I've GOT this. My goal from here on until my surgery is to get back on Saxenda and lose the 10 lbs I need to for the clinic. I have an appt today with the PA, and I'm really hoping they don't test me for nicotine since it's still in me right now. I'm through!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
