    DEPRESSED AND DISCOURAGED

i was sleeved in January. Only lost about 20 pounds the first 3 months. Not 20 pounds per month. 20 pounds total! I was thinking WTF???? I was sticking to the plan exactly and the scale was not really moving much. I couldn't imagine how that was even possible. But then the strangest thing happened, at about the 3rd month the weight loss took off and i have been losing a decent amount each month ever since. Didnt reduce my calories at all, if anything i started eating more as my tummy healed. Not sure if this has been anyone else's experience but i just wanted to tell you just because its slow now doesn't mean it will always be that way.

    Food torture

I'm sure it's not productive, but it certainly is normal! I did it too. I like your analogy to breaking up with a partner. Breaking up with food really is just like that! I felt depressed and empty the first 4 months. I have a wonderful and supportive husband, so I had everything going for me. But I just couldn't shake the feeling of loss. I'm 5 months out and just starting to feel normal again. It takes awhile.

    Post op depression

Glad to see someone talking about this. I am about 5 months out and just starting to feel somewhat normal again. I never completely realized the power food had over me. I have a loving and supportive husband and family. No problems there. But breaking up with food was traumatic. No joke! I felt depressed and empty the first 4 months. Like someone died. It does take awhile to grieve for what you have lost, but I am not regretting it in the least. Even though my weight loss has been slow and frustrating, it was the best money I have ever spent! I feel so much better physically. I'm 56 years old, and have some arthritis. Carrying around an extra 90 lbs was pretty painful Hang in there. It does get better. I have finally stopped grieving and just accepted that food is no longer the central focus of my life. I really don't think much about it anymore. I think those first few months when you have to be super focused on what you're eating (and not eating) it actually makes it tougher. Once you are eating normal food and get into a food routine you can stop obsessing over the food and then it becomes easier.

Has anyone NOT lost their hair?

I was sleeved in January and I have not experienced any hair loss. My hair is not very thick, so I think I would have noticed if I had. But I am a slow loser. I feel like that may play a part. The weight loss was unbelievably slow the first 3 months. I have only started losing at a good pace this last 2 months. I started at 214 and weigh 170 this morning.
  7. I had my sleeve surgery Jan 17. I'm eating puréed food now, but i can eat way more that it seems other people on the forums are eating. Kinda concerns me. I have 1/2 cup (4 oz) containers and i can easily eat that much without feeling much restriction. Seems like everyone else eats 2 bites and is full. What's up with that?

My sleeve surgery seems almost too easy. So far.

I wish you all the best! I'm now 9 days out from surgery and honestly feel better than i did before surgery. I have experienced improvements in all the pre op pains i had, for example back pain. I'm so unbelievably happy that i did this! I am sure you will do great too!

    Day 2, feeling awful.

I dragged my sorry butt up out of bed and did laps around the house and it sure did make the gas pain subside. But I get that all you probably want to do is sleep. I was rediculously sleepy for 3 days after surgery.

    SURGERY DAY!

I'm excited for you! I was scared and thrilled at the same time too! I am only 5 days post op, but honestly, so far I have had no problems and very little pain. I never even had to take the pain Meds they sent me home with (I did this as outpatient surgery.). Don't be scared, it was way less painful than I imagined.I guess I'm more nervous about the after effects. Today I'm hungry and have a headache. I still have to make my bed and take the shower with the special soap but I'm so ready to get this part done! A new life even if it will still be hard work! Sent from my SM-G920P using the BariatricPal App The pre op diet was the worse part of the whole thing for me. I was so freakin hungry! The post op has been a piece of cake in comparison because I have zero hunger for the first time in my life! My understanding is that hunger does eventually return but I am enjoying the hell out of it right now!

    For the 45+ crowd

I am 55 and have a baby face and have always looked much younger than I am, but I am fully prepared that once this fat is gone those wrinkles are gonna come out BIG time. But I would rather be wrinkled and be able to walk without excruciating back and knee pain, so I guess this is my fate too.

    Staples, glue, or Steri-Strips?

Glue and those steri strip things for me too. It's 5 days post op for me and the steri strips are getting loose. The doctor said to just let them come off on their own.

Really...Wow good for you where do you live that they do outpatient sleeve surgery?Sent from my LGMS428 using the BariatricPal App I live in Phoenix, AZ, but there are lots and lots of outpatient programs all over the country. If you want to go that route you won't have any trouble finding one. I was actually going to go to Dallas initially because they have a good outpatient program, but then found out the same place (called Evolve) had a program now in Phoenix. Of course for those that have insurance or can afford it, I would recommend staying in the hospital at least overnight, but for those of us that have no other options, this was affordable and so far, so good

I wish the same for you too!! I'm 55 yrs old and was afraid my age may make the recovery a little tougher, but it's now the next day and STILL feel absolutely fine. I was most worried about not be able to get down fluids postoperative, but again, no problems there either.I'm certainly not complaining, but after ready a lot of post on this forum I am really shocked it's been this non-eventful That is very encouraging to see. I am 54 and wondering if recovery would be harder because of age. Hoping to have my surgery in June. I get summers off because I am an educator. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App i am now on the 5th day post op and still doing great. A little sore, but not bad. That's great that you can get this done when you don't have to worry about a return to work right away. I think physically I will be fine to return to work, but the constant effort to get fluids in and such will be a big distraction. I normally get so busy I skip lunches, etc, which I can't do now.
