One of my FB friends is about 6 weeks post sleeve and posted today that she doesn't understand how people could eat poorly after a surgery. As she is making the right choices. I hope we can all support each other on our individual journeys. Practice is far dirtier than Theory. In my opinion...

This seems to be a running theme on a lot of sites today. To a similar post this was my response:
Proud of you girl! You're killin it. You are what they term a.."Good Sleever". I will say as an overweight person who is somewhat "New" fat and has been of normal weight for many years without effort. I used to think the same of those who were heavy. How could you let yourself get big? How could you put yourself through that?
But now having lived as a heavy person, being a possible pre-sleever, my view has widened. I see those people with food addictions and those met with tragedy post surgery be "Bad Sleevers". I'm not sure which I'll be, but in theory I'd love to be a good sleeve patient. One who eats right, shakes old habits, and works out consistently. And, I will put my every intention there. But I know that to have gotten to the size I am now, I am addicted to something. We will have to see where the proverbial OA chips fall.
I don't eat Condiments of any kind, never have - but my ass has been eating something. And like most people, something has been eating me too. I can only hope.. I've found it. Soothed it and put it to rest. I am hoping my peers, friends, and supporters understand if I get it wrong.

I loved food before my surgery, now all food is to me is a means to survive. I dont like the taste of certain foods anymore, and when my stomache starts to feel unc9mfortable i back away...still frustrated because i gave up foods that i loved, the Pasta the ice cream and i only lost 32 lbs in 3 months. I know everyone is different but im scared the weightloss will stop fir me even uf i do everything right. Growing up i was never a potato chip person or a soda person, yet my brother and sister growing up could eat and eat those things like cake and pie (which i was never big on either), but they were always skinny growing up and i was always the chunky monkey. I want fir the first time in my entire life to just know how it feels to be skinny and fit in a size smaller than a 9. Why i say smaller than 9 you ask? Because 9 was the smallest ive ever been., and that was in high school.

CantHardlyW8 reacted to veryblessed in Update: spouse left 4 days after surgery.
Hi, wanted to Thank all those back after I had my sleeve surgery on 09/19/16 & 09/23/16 my husband left me. The we'll wishes really got me through some had times cause would read them when I needed a boost. I originally thought he left due to a drug issue. I thought we would work out if he got help but didn't work out that way. I found out by doing some investing that over our last 3 1/2 years of part-time nursing school -he cheated on me while in class at night after working full time, & on clinical weekends with multiple women. I really struggled after finding this out for awhile with getting Vitamins every day, enough Water, but did Protein Drinks for Breakfast & still do for Protein amount. I got through things & doing so much better. I found out Friday also that I will be graduating nursing school. I work with claims dept for the hospital I had surgery at now. I hoping that after I pass my state exam I when take in few months I can get,a job on the baratric floor for surgery patients. I would love that even more then anything. I am writing this update so if anybody else loses their spouse after surgery -keep chin up because it will get better. Sleeve surgery on 09/19 was one of the best decision of my life. I filed for divorce & he signed papers last week, graduating nursing school from long part-time road, & am down around 50 pounds since surgery. I feel better then I have in such a long time -it is amazing how surgery can change your life for the better. I enjoy exercising, walking dogs & energy level is so much higher now. Plus hearing how well you look from others is huge boost to everyone. I hope nobody ever has to go through what I went through, but if anything hard happens in your life post surgery hang in there. Hang in there, keep chin up because trust me your life & overall health will get better & what a blessing in the changes. I do feel very, very blessed in my life again.

Congrats Girl! Looking good and Happy! It is so good reading comments from post sleevers because as a pretty sleever, I question this path, journey, decision every single day. I'm in awe of the progress and movement I see all around me but somehow wonder if it is possible for me too. I am also 5'2" tall but weighing in at 300+, I absolutely know what I need to do.

@@LA_lady I'm not far enough along to give any advice not already mentioned. But I would like to congratulate you. Trying to change your eating patterns after you've noticed undesirable behavior in a few months is worth commending. Think of all the years it took you to change your lifestyle before and how, comparatively, little time you took this time. That's worth commending.

I'm a grazer. My restriction is SO freaking tight, I have to be. I also have to be extra mindful of WHAT I am grazing on. I will disagree with some of the advice above, but only because it is working **for me**.
I eat a shit-ton of cheese. I eat almonds. I eat beef Jerky and eggs. I eat lunch meat rolled with cheese. I can only eat a few ounces at a sitting, but I eat every two hours or so. I don't count calories or fat, I count carbs. As long as I stay under carb count, I am golden. When I introduce chips or cracker or bread, I am screwed. So I don't.

    Meat, cheese, veggies = loss.
    Carbs = gain.
This is my new normal and I am OK with it.

First, I would stop using words like bad and good with respect to both yourself and food. It isn't helpful.
Next, cut out high carb foods immediately and completely. The more you eat of them, the hungrier you will get. One of the reasons you are constantly hungry is that you are eating things like grapes (and probably even higher carb foods).
Take three days and let yourself eat as much as you want -- but only lean, unprocessed meats and green vegetables. Throw away the high calorie foods like nuts and cheese. They are not helping you. Yes, they can be healthy parts of your diet, but not while you are getting back on track and trying to lose weight. Focusing on foods like lean meats and green veggies will help you re-focus on your restriction, make you less hungry, and re-establish the difference between true hunger and head hunger.
Finally, you may have to get okay with the idea of being hungry and just waiting until your next scheduled meal. Being hungry doesn't mean you have to eat. It isn't any fun to be hungry but you aren't in danger of starving to death.
If you are truly incapable of dealing with hunger in any way except eating, again, restrict yourself to lean meat and green veggies. When you get hungry, eat some green vegetables. If you don't want green vegetables or some chopped cold chicken breast, you aren't hungry, you are just experiencing cravings.

Plenty of people have no pre-op diet and do fine. I had a very easy 3 day one (not liquid, just low carb/low fat) and did fine.
The purpose of the pre-op diet is to shrink your liver but during surgery they use a device to lift your liver out of the way anyway. And some surgeons believe the long, liquid pre-op diets don't do that much.
If I were you I would just start eating healthier, maybe cut out sugar and caffeine??? And junk food?
