SpiritedOne got a reaction from goldenbarbie in Question
The easy answer is to say it will be fine, and in all honesty it probably will be. My understanding, and I'm new to this too, is that sugar free is what we are suppose to strive for as well as watch our portion size. I only 6 days post op but I think by my week 2 I can have sugar free pudding. Not sure if it helps but I wish you all the will power in the world to make the right decision for yourself.

Hi guys, its been weeks since ive checked in. Last time i was having surgery because of a blockage they found. Over 5 wks couldnt have a bowel movement for nothing. So plz be careful. Any signs, let someone know. I literally almost died, but i didnt and im so happy to be here to write this and say its never to late to get some help to get this weight off of you. This time last yr, i spent the holidays with family in dallas and was on a walker. Needed total knee replacement. Those same family members are with me this yr and weve walked 3miles every morning and they cant believe this is the same person, and i refused the knee replacement. Since i started this process in may, ive lost a total of 101lbs. Went from a 3xl now in a 12. Nothing but a great dr, and God.....what do you think

SpiritedOne reacted to LittleBill in Busy day today
Today was one of those days that I had all planned out, and then everything took a left turn, and we ended up doing something completely different. There are many stories, too many to tell. But there is one which some of you may be able to relate to.
We were driving down the road to our destination, with a handful of Protein Bars stuffed in our pockets against the possibility of being out longer than we expected. We were, and well beyond even that. I need even MORE Protein bars stored in my truck after today! But anyway, as we were driving along, we passed one of my favorite haunts from the old days - the Dairy Queen. I loved stopping in there for a malted chocolate milkshake.
I said to Mrs. LittleBill as we drove by, "I should pull in there and get me a chocolate malt!"
"You can't have one anymore!" she replied.
"Sure I can! It would just take me four days to drink it!"
And so it goes. I will be making up a Gold Standard Extreme Chocolate Milk Protein Shake later on. I wonder if they make one with malt flavoring?

I totally understand what you're saying as I was thinking the exact same thing today at the mall and I saw possibly the world's biggest display of huge Christmas tin cans filled with delicious popcorn and holiday Cookies. I thought I might cry, wanting those Snacks so very badly, but I'm one week post op and it will be a long time before I get to enjoy those tasty treats.
Oh well there's always next year!
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone.

I don't think my skeleton could get into single digit sized pants. But I agree with the sentiment. My eating habits have changed tremendously, and all for the better. Stuff I used to really enjoy is now "eh" at best.

Nothing that comes in a can is really that good anyway. Seriously. It's habit. You will be able to eat anything you want again next holiday season, but you will eat it in teeny portions and while wearing a MUCH smaller size. Focus on how awesome it will feel to fit into booths, wear single digit sized pants, shop anywhere you want...
It's ALL worth it.

Honestly, I think this is the best time of year to just have had surgery, we are restricted as hell and so we don't binge and gain a bunch of weight. We'll be losing fat and be ready for the summer. Also, if we can get through this, we can get through anything!

You want to lose as much as possible in your first 90 days. Thus, the Protein and not to stress the newly altered stomach.

SpiritedOne reacted to OneReallyBigBird in Pain after surgery.
I am one week post op and I don't have any soreness at all. I've been walking a lot and working to get all my Protein in. I'm amazed by how little I actually eat now. I'm getting tired of all the broth, Soups, and Protein shakes but I'm committed to this beautiful journey for the long haul.
Congrats and Good luck to everyone. I know we can all do this!

Hi my name is Rebecca and I'm on my way to a healthier life! So I am a 46 year old mother of 4 grown children (amazing children ) I have suffered from bipolar depression, ptsd, anxiety with panic attacks, and borderline personality for many years. As a result I have been on numerous medications that have caused me to gain significant weight, as well as having used food as my "comfort" food... That was the beginning of a life long struggle with weight. This past two years I have had a stroke and a mini stroke, my left knee has been totally replaced twice and is still very unstable so exercise is virtually impossible and my weight reached an all time high of 383lbs! In August I decided to take control and regain my life back.. Starting in September I met with the Bariatric team and have since lost 34bs 4oz and now have a surgery date for January 25th ...I must admit that as excited as I am about my new healthier lifestyle I am also very very nervous and constantly anxious about the "unknown". I have sleep apnea, high blood pressure, Fibromyalgia, and other health issues that can only be improved with the gastric bypass so I have weighed the pros and cons of it all and feel this may be my last chance of ever getting back to the "healthy Rebecca" that I need to be for myself, my husband, my children, and my precious grandson.

I will be sleeved on Tuesday and I could have written Mimiof3's post as well. I have an adult child and a pre-teen child. I'm freaking out about getting things ready for Christmas, wrapping things and hoping everything goes well. I haven't been sleeping because I'm so anxious but I know all will work out. I just need to put it all in God's hands. I could definitely use some of the nerve pills...at least it would be something solid in my tummy! LOL Good luck to all of us and let's all meet up on the losers bench and have a laugh about our pre-op anxiousness!

SpiritedOne reacted to edhcah in One year out...On track :)
Hi everyone!
I had to search for some older pics because I never allow my picture to be taken, but I found a couple to put next to one from yesterday.
It will be a year post-surgery on Dec 30th and I made my first goal... 100lbs down from surgery day. Woooooooo!
I was 369 on surgery day and today I got 263lbs. I can't even believe it. I also had my one-year follow up with my doctor today and she was estatic with my progress. I went from a 58 BMI to 38 BMI. I has been a long journey and I'm no where near done, but I am, for the first time in a very, very long time, happy :')

SpiritedOne reacted to Heidi22 in Need Advice from all you fellow sleevers
My brief story is that I was banded 6 years ago. Horrible tool. I lost about 40 lbs. and have gained back about 35. I am now starting the process of getting insurance company approval for the gastric sleeve. I am terrified of this surgery! I have to follow a 6-month diet prior to approval and I've started and stopped twice due to changing my mind. I just can't get passed permanently removing part of my stomach. I'm searching for any advice you can offer. Will my stomach eventually stretch back out (if I overeat? I assume that after a year or so that I want it to stretch out a little. Can you eat carbs? Will I be able to take normal size Vitamins again. Will food get stuck like in the band? Can I eat carbs while sleeved (even if it's just a 1/4 cup)? Did anyone have malnutrition issues? Hair loss issues? What do you struggle with the most being sleeved? Anyone else that was banded first that can make a comparison of the two? Any information on long term effects of the sleeve? I've done some research but just don't seem to find enough information. Sorry for the all my questions - I just need HELP!

I love seeing everyone's before and after pictures they always inspire me so I thought I'd post one since its been a while and I actually am now in the 200's! My sw-442 surgery date-7/26/16 (Gastric bypass) current weight-298 I still have such a ways to go but I am loving my journey to my goal weight of 199. I honestly have no complaints and I am starting to enjoy exercises and jogging. I'm so glad I decided to do this.
