  1. My Doctor said I can take Benefiber every day. I've been banded since January and have had no problems so far.
  2. I did a stress test, but instead of walking on a Treadmill which ramps up your heart rate, they gave me drugs which ramped up my heart rate while i was lying down.

    feedback from Jan '08 Bandsters

Can you imagine, I actually started with 1/4 cup servings and it pretty much filled me up. Now I'm trying to stay with 1/2 cup servings, which works pretty much good for Breakfast and dinner. But with lunch, the 1/2 cup doesnt fill me up and I usually end up with 1 cup of food. Slimming is when you get something stuck (like when I dont chew well or eat too fast or overeat), your body slimes to try to get the food down, but most time I have to PB it up.
  4. My Doctor put me on Bariatric Advantage Multi-Formula Chewable, right after surgery. I buy them from his office or online at bariatricchoice.com.
  5. I had to inject myself with Lovenox for ten days. At first I was a little hesitant, but it needed to be done so I did it. The thought of it actually was worse than the shot itself. The needles are small and fine. Just have to rotate the sites of the injections. I had bruises all over where i shot myself.
  6. Hi, I'm from the Big Island, had my surgery in January on Oahu with Dr Lapschies at Pali Momi. I haven't met anybody on this island that has been banded. Great that you guys get together, too bad I'm on another island.

  7. How long ago? I lived on Oahu from 1978 to 81. But I was born and raised on the Big Island.

  8. I had my surgery at that time. I had to get up through out the night to change, but I think that it helped my recovery. The nurses said I did really well.

    Can I donate blood?

I had my surgery in January and just gave blood this Monday. I told the person who scheduled me that I had surgery in January, but had no transfusions and she said that it was enough time since then to give blood. I would call the blood bank and ask, but I had no problems.
  10. Just checking up to see how you are doing.

  11. Hi Terri, was great talking with you last night.

    Denied My First Fill

My doctor used the drinking water method. He made me hold a small cup of water, start to fill the band and had me drink, when the band was filled to its max, the water would stuck and wouldn't go down, then he unfilled the band until the water went down. I was filled 2 ccs and that was a good fill for me, I have good restriction.

    Hawaii pre & post bansters

Hi, I haven't seen anyone in here for a while. I've been on the other forums and on the chat. Didn't seem like anyone from Hawaii was on any more.

    new and saying hi

Hi Christine, I'm glad I found this site too. There are no support groups where I'm from and this forum has been so informative. I don't feel alone in my journey.

    sad

What some people don't realize is that it's not just a matter of eating smaller portions. Smaller portions before my band is still about 4 times the size of my meal now. The band helps me eat smaller portions. At first my husband wasn't for it, but when he went to the lecture with me and understood the whole process he came around. I don't look at it as something that I did to my body, but as something that I did for my body. It was the best thing that I have done for ME. I don't have to use the CPAC machine, have normal blood sugar and don't have to take diabetis medication anymore, got taken off my cholesterol med and soon might get off my high blood pressure meds too. Good luck in your Journey.

    UPDATE Jan 08 Bandsters

Yeah I know what you mean, I was stuck at 193 for over two weeks, but when I jumped on the scale the other day, it finally moved to 190. I was getting worried that I was on a plateau. Whew!
  19. When we went out to eat, we went to one of our favorite restaurants and asked the waiter if they could make me a grilled chicken breast and some steamed vegies. At another restaurant, they allowed me to order from the children's menu. Now, I just order a regular meal and bring the leftovers home to eat for the rest of the week. Chicken and pork are my protein of choice and i haven't had much of a problem with them, just when I eat too fast.

    How long for a PB?

Believe me, you will know when it doesn't want to go down, like right away. I always get in trouble when I'm eating something that I really like and want just one more bite. Otherwise, I've learned to try to avoid the things that get stuck, like chicken breast (kind of dry sometimes) and chew really well and eat slow.

    How long for a PB?

I didn't have my first PB until after my first fill. Before that I didn't have much restriction. I usually feel a stuck sensation, and if i wait a little while it goes down, otherwise I have to PB. I always have time to get to a bathroom.
  22. Hi, I started walking the day after my surgery. I started at 2 ounces of protein, then now I'm eating about 3-4 ounces of protein and some vegies. Drinking lots of liquids, mostly crystal light, propel or fruit2o, I don't like plain water. I try to exercise at least 30-45 minutes a day, 6 days a week. Its a journey, don't worry about making your goal now, I have good days and bad days too. Just have to take one day at a time.
