    A1C before surgery...

My wife's A1C was 8-something 3 months ago before they upped her meds a bit. She is scared that they won't perform her surgery in 3 weeks if her blood tests show a high A1c. Anyone have experience with this?

    3 days post-op

I am home now and feeling pretty good. I am still on clear liquids (broth, sugar-free jello) and will start full liquids tomorrow. My question is.. is it normal for me to smell yummy foods cooking and have a mental desire to eat it? Obviously I know I can't and my belly isn't grumbling from hunger, but the thought of eating yummy food when I smell it or see a commercial is still there at times.

    Calorie Confusion

I am in the supervised diet stage of sleeve surgery and have a question. I have read here on multiple occasions that people were eating close to 1,200 calories a day and weren't losing... meanwhile, whey they dropped their calories to 800-900, they lost. I guess I am confused how eating only 1,200 calories per day would not amount in a significant loss each month when most obese people can eat 2,000+ calories a day to maintain?

100 pounds gone in 7 months

You mentioned that you didn't lose any weight during a month that you ate 1,200 cals a day versus 800. I can't imagine how 1,200 wouldn't be enough of a deficit to lose weight over a month's time? Genuinely curious.

    Plastic Surgery Before Goal

I think losing the hang would probably boost your confidence and also lead to you being more active, thus losing more weight in the end.

    Sweet Tooth...

As far as my sweet tooth... I like having something sweet after dinner- like ice cream or chocolate or a piece of cake. I will sometimes even skip dinner and have dessert instead- like a pint of Ben and Jerry's. I've been better since I started my supervised diet and have found lower-calories options like Halo Top ice cream, but I still enjoy having some type of sweet several days a week and I know that I have to stop all sweets to lose weight and especially after surgery. Sweet Tooth...

I met with my nutritionist yesterday and we discussed my sleeve surgery planned for May/June. She explained to me that my cravings for sweets (versus food in large quantities) may better be handled by bypass surgery versus sleeve. Anyone else been told that? Any thoughts on this? Enlarged Liver

I just had my required abdomen ultrasound and it turns out that my liver is enlarged (20cm). I am going through the supervised diet right now and won't have surgery until June. Is there anything I can do now to help shrink my liver or will the pre-op diet take care of that? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Failing?

I am on my pathway to getting surgery in June and was talking to a friend at work yesterday about it. She herself would love to get the surgery because she has tried and failed so many diets. Her fear is that she will be one of the people who barely lose any weight because she'll have a tough time sticking to the low carb diet. She said that she had lapband about 15 years ago and wasn't very successful. I honestly never thought about getting surgery and not being able to lose weight. Any opinions on this? Getting sleeved in June

I will most likely have my surgery in June as well. I have been eating lots of Protein and keeping my carbs very low. I lost 25lbs since Thanksgiving, but it's getting harder and harder to be strict. I am not required to lose weight for my insurance, but I'd like to help myself get as close to 300lbs as possible (am 5'8" and 345 now). I am 35 so we are close in age! Too few calories=stall?

Is it true that if you don't eat enough, you won't lose weight? Should you always make sure to get a minimum number of calories per day, or only eat if you're hungry? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
