Only my husband and my sister know. I wasn't going to tell my sister but I did because we don't keep secrets like that. I live out of state so my plan is to tell everyone I started a strict program ( I did) + hitting the gym hard starting Jan 1. I likely wont see my family until April-June. I could be knocking on my goal weight by then so I know I'll have a lot of explaining to do.

Thank you everyone!! Everything went great!! I was the first one of the day yesterday at 7:30am! I only needed 4 incision instead of the normal 5-7, not really sure why I'll ask doctor when I see him today but it could be because maybe I shrunk my liver to a great size nurse said he wrote in his notes I was one of the easiest and fastest surgerys he ever done, I was only in there for 30 minutes!! And I've had no gas pain just one incision hurt and it hurts in my chest when I swallow liquid because it's still tight, but that's about it. I keep doing laps around the floor since 3 hours after my surgery yesterday and everything I actually just got done doing 8 laps now and it's 5 in the morning by me lol it is going way better than I ever thought I hope you all get as lucky, cause I know I really am!!! I'm swelled up about twice my size lol but I think my incisions look great!

Only my husband, kids and 1 non judgmental friend knows. I told my mom that I have a hiatal hernia and have to have surgery ( that part is true) I'll never hear the end of it if she knows I'm having WLS

I'm having trouble with this as well because it seems that you are not quite ready for this surgery from a mental perspective.
Mental stress can affect your physical healing.
What you need to do is first get away from the abusive party, next you can talk to the doctors about next steps. They can help you with the resources needed that will get you to a safe place both mentally and physically.
Then talk surgery after all of that have been resolved

Everybody keep saying liquids but my doctor didn't say that when I start on 14th. He just said Don't gain weight and Do a low no carb basically. No bread no fried foods or Pasta. I can eat meat as long as it's grilled or boiled and plenty of veggies. Please let me know what you'll are doing so I can try also.

Hello everyone. Today I am post-op gastric sleeve Day 1. I must say I was very afraid about how I would feel, but Im barely hurting at all. I did have some gas pain last night (walking, gas-x strips and simethacone helped)... Barely any nausea at all (
Thanks @@QueenBx! I was very nervous , but everyone was very professional and kind to me at Piedmont Atlanta Hospital. My doctor (Charles Procter, Jr) has an excellent bedside manner and is a second generation gastric surgeon. I think he did a great job. I had umbilical hernia repair and robotic gastric sleeve. Not much pain or nausea, though I was medicated for both in the hospital. My throat was sore from intubation during the procedure, but I got him to prescribe a spray that helped a lot. I was released the next morning after I ate clear liquid Breakfast with no problems. My stomach actually feels tighter today (post-op day 2), but its beatable. I do have some gas but walking definitely helps with that. The jury is still out on gerd issues.
Now that im home if I could just get these fluids in... but overall everything is going well.
    Thanks for the prayers!

I have BCBS NC, and I paid my doctor $1500 on Monday and Tuesday the pretest facility told me I have to pay half ($1678) on my pre-test day. I am trying my best not to stress, but I do not want to come this far to get turned back. Nor do I want to raise my blood pressure stressing.

I'm on the BCBS PPO plan, and I had to fork out $6500 but that was to meet my deductible and a few pre-op tests that weren't covered by my insurance. Having said that, it was so so so worth it.

You probably will when you go for pre surgery appt. at facility. Forgot that I also had the anesthesiologist office call me the day before surgery and ask if I had met my deductible. Since I had not, they needed a $200 deposit. Everybody wants to make sure they get paid I guess.

I'm in Texas as well. went to my presurgery last week and still haven't gotten a hospital total yet.No word from my anesthetic dr either. My surgery is next week.
My actual surgeon is collecting her full cost tomorrow. I have Aetna and I'm required to pay my surgeon $5000 plus a co-pay of about $1000 more.

I am in Texas and the hospital told me that when I went for my presurgery appt the week before surgery. Then they called the day before surgery and I gave them my credit card info. It may be the policy of the facility and not insurance. They did tell me they had called insurance to get my deductible and maximum out of pocket expenses.

Very few people outside my family know about my surgery. However, one of the few that does was making a comment about how much weight I've lost and how she needs to take off a few pounds but no matter what she tries she can't get any weight off.
I told her about the plan I had been following before surgery and how effective it was, etc. And she says (as if she wasn't listening at all) "well, you had medical help! It's different for me".
Then I reminded her that I lost 50lbs in 6 weeks PRIOR to surgery, so there must be some merit to the plan I was following.
So, I hear you. People like to attribute everything to the surgery and nothing to the individual. Honestly, I think part of that's a coping mechanism. If you've had surgery, then you didn't do anything to lose weight, therefore they don't have to feel bad about you losing weight and them not.
Meh. This is why I didn't tell anyone. This is my health, my journey, my results. And I couldn't be happier. And they are right about one thing. I couldn't have done it without the surgery. Lord knows I tried.

Just speaking for myself, the only times I lost significant weight (40 lbs on WW a decade ago, and now 45 lbs since surgery 9/19,) no one noticed until I hit 40 lbs for me!

I'm a little miffed in one aspect that I'm not getting complimented, LOL, but then I see how far I have to go still to get out of the 200s and closer to just an "overweight" BMI, etc., etc., that I get it -- 40-45 lbs is a LOT of weight, but when you are close to 300 and a girl -- well, it's a drop in the bucket.

I expect you probably didn't change clothes too much on the pre-op, but now that you are close to -100 lbs, you must be dressing differently, in new, maybe more fitted clothes? 100 lbs is going to show now.

I have no words of advice, but be proud of what you've done for yourself. The accolades (and gossip) will come later. You did this for you, not the audience down the line.
    Congratulations on kicking butt!

I've had a couple of people I know professionally say something, usually along the lines of "You've lost weight!" I always respond with "Maybe a pound or two". Most will let it drop at that point, but a few have challenged me on the amount. It hasn't gotten any further than that though, and I am down almost 110 since the start.

Sometimes you have to drop a certain amount from your frame before people take notice. I wouldn't get paranoid about thinking people are talking about you and that you must have got surgery. You're losing weight and feeling great..that's what counts..let the haters hate..Good luck!
