AK_Bookworm got a reaction from biginjapan in Hello from the loser's bench... sleeved in Mexico [emoji322][emoji322]
A guy sleeved the day before me had to come back over from the recovery house because he was in so much pain and they ended up taking him back again. I am so incredibly grateful for a smooth recovery.

AK_Bookworm got a reaction from Apple1 in Hello from the loser's bench... sleeved in Mexico [emoji322][emoji322]
Just wanted to post and say... I DID IT!!!! I am officially sleeved. It feels so surreal like my mind still hasn't registered that I'm here and it's done. Recovery is going AMAZING. No gas pain besides really slight discomfort in my shoulders (which feels better than the acid reflux. Slight discomfort in one area but it's manageable. The staff are amazing!!! I had a hiatal hernia (which I suspected but it hadn't been confirmed until the endoscopy was done yesterday so doctor repaired that while he did the sleeve. I woke easily from anesthesia and have been awake since. There are 4 of us here and out of the 3 of us who had surgery my recovery has been the easiest and fastest. For those second surgery in Mexico DON'T... the care has been nothing short of the best I've had ever. For those second guessing having surgery... DON'T!!! I do not regret a thing!!

AK_Bookworm reacted to Apple1 in The Valets of Bariactric Pal are the Best
I have to give a shout out to the valets working for Bariactric Pal MX. Today Juan took us to a great seafood restaurant that served shrimp broth. Well I don't eat shellfish and he had no way of knowing that. I was really ok with it because I wasn't even hungry and I told him I would just get some broth at the hotel.
Well a few hours later he calls me and says he is out and would pick me up some French onion broth from Caesars because he knew how much I liked it and he felt bad that i didn't like the shrimp broth. Now that is someone who truly cares about taking care of their patients. I have had such a great experience here and I want to let anyone know if they are still thinking about using Bariactric Pal, just do it, you won't be disappointed.

I wasn't losing much on my preop diet either and got discouraged until I changed my mindset. I eventually cut out the Premier Protein shakes and switched to Protein Powder and almond milk and seem to be losing more than when I was using the premier shakes. In the beginning I broke down crying because my weight loss was nowhere near what most others were and had to remind myself what the ultimate goal is with that and that's simply to shrink my liver. Surgery is on Thursday so I just hope my liver is good enough to get it done and that's my major stressor right now but otherwise I feel good about what I'm doing with this preop and my progress. Hang in there and remember the ultimate goal.

Nothing!!!
you are following program to the tee
drinking broth, Protein Shakes, crystal light,
walking too!! you are aces!!
you are doing well, lbs will come off
measurements too!!
never compare your weight loss - or
anyone to OP - in the future you might
be in similar situations with weight loss
thinking others are losing faster than you
Get Over It
@AK_Bookworm - good luck on thursday
@LittleM - half way done with pre-op woo hoo!!
@NewChiGirl last but not least - all your
excess weight didn't happen over night,
not gonna wake up one morning with
weight all gone
good luck to all
kathy

I only lost 7 pounds on my pre-op diet and I was a lot larger than all of you. It was hot in the summer and it was a miracle I lost anything because I was bloated.
The point is to shrink your liver to make surgery easier, not rapid weight loss.
Stick to the program and good luck with surgery.

AK_Bookworm got a reaction from raquel1988 in Liquid Pre-Op Diet... What interval for shakes?
I've tried it and the sodium is still too much although doesn't make me feel as bad... I might need to try a few brands and maybe Bone Broth and see if it's better.

I ordered the chicken Soup for post op and got it yesterday... it taste like a broth but not as salty so I think I will like it if I can get it to mix well. I didn't get the other flavors because I'm thinking I'm going to go with another brand once I'm off Clear Liquids post op

AK_Bookworm reacted to Apple1 in I am I crazy for considering surgery
Thanks for your comments, but if you read the thread you would know that I have already decided to go to Mexico for my surgery. I did my research and found an excellent surgeon. My surgery will be May 15th.
I am confident that I have made the best choice for me. I am looking forward to reclaiming my health and eventually maintaining a healthy weight.

That's exciting that you're getting it done. I'll be getting mine done in Mexico on May 18th. I'm glad you feel comfortable with your decision and made it based off what's best for you!

Bone broth is much better. Doesn't taste like a box.

AK_Bookworm reacted to Berry78 in Sleeve May 15 and I'm Angry
The surgery can't fix you. Only you can do that. But, the surgery WILL allow you to shed some of your weight, restrict your food choices, and give you the room to breathe while you figure things out.
If you are surrounded by people for whom the surgery didn't work, it is in your best interest to distance yourself from them. Birds of a feather flock together. You need a positive flock with which to fly.
You have your whole life ahead of you! Use the anger to fuel your determination to learn the right path to take.

I bought some great flavoured Water with zero calories at the airport. You might find different people take different things based on others experience. Like I heard to take a heating pad(I did) but I never used it, my room was so warm and lots of blankets on the bed, it was so cozy. I'd take things based on others that had it done at the same place.i went to the OCC & The hotel we stayed at had broth and Popsicles specifically for WLS patients & water in the room, so we didn't need anything. We all went shopping the day after and the 2days post op, everyone felt good.

AK_Bookworm got a reaction from biginjapan in Do I need a wheelchair... what about protein for flights?
All great points!!! Thanks everyone. While I don't know how my recovery will be I have had 2 c sections and the second one was a breeze and I was up walking within 6 hours so if it's anything like that or similar I'll be ok. The point about boarding too early is a good one especially since I'll be in the aisle seat and getting up and down for the other people in my room won't be fun. I have a weekend bag that fits under the seat so luckily I don't have to worry about the overhead bin. I'll plan on not having one but won't hesitate to ask if I do need it. It won't be international (flying into San Diego and then flying back to Alaska) so I don't have to worry about customs.
