  1. Today was my first day of food. I tabulated my calories and was at 599 calories. My target should be 800-1000 according to my doctor and nutritionist. I want to stick to a healthy diet, but wonder, should I use real mayo instead of ff? Should I not worry about sugar free drinks? (The drinks would still be healthy of course.) I just don't know! Today I had: 3 oz of tuna w/ mustard and ff mayo 2 Morning Star Chik Nuggets w/ mustard Steamed veggies (like 2 pieces of carrot and 2 pieces of zucchini) 1 Turkey Meatball 3 mini whole wheat crackers w/ egg salad and no... I didn't stick to the "try one food a day" thing.... Um, how do YOU get in 1000 calories??
  2. I am amazed at how full I feel on my soft foods!! Today I ate: Breakfast - 1 oz tuna (I would have had eggs or something but hadn't been to the store yet!) Snack- 1 oz tuna lunch - 2 morning star farms chik nuggets, 1 slice of zucchini (cooked), 1 bite of canned diced peaches (those little snacky ones in the plastic to go container that go in kid's lunches) Snack - sample of polenta at grocery store dinner - ??? I know I should have slowly introduced these foods, rather than eat so many different things. It's amazing to me that I ate lunch as 12:30, had the snack around 3:00 and am still STUFFED feeling!
  3. Tomorrow at 1 pm I have my dietician appointment to get my mushie diet instructions... well, what do you know? I blew it just now! I made some tuna salad w/ fat free mayo and mustard and had about an ounce. I feel fine and I chewed really, really well... The thing is, I have not been able to tolerate the Protein drinks so for the last 10 days have been living on Green Protein from Trader Joes (It's a juice and veggie drink w/ about 6 grams of protein in the bottle) soy milk and Soup broth! I seriously needed something! I probably have not been consuming more than 500-700 calories in the last two weeks as it's really hard to get them in when I don't have the protein drinks! Surprisingly, I have felt good, but well, I guess I justified it since tomorrow is the day I would start anyway. Hopefully the 18 hours won't make a big difference! I am going to sit up until I think it's been digested!!!
  4. My guess is it's an ingredient in the drinks you are having. You are probably taking very concentrated amounts since it's all you are drinking! I started to get sick from apartame. Just take away some foods (start with whey, then move on) and see what it could be!
  5. I wanted to add something else... it may be the artificial sweeteners in drinks like crystal light. I was getting sick from those and cut them out of my diet. Check and see how much you are drinking!
  6. I asked the dietician about that (I have a post called "chugging liquids" somewhere on here) and she said that was normal, as there is no restriction. Once the swelling goes down, you are able to drink much more quickly. I am on a similar regime (the sweeteners make me sick and I'm allergic to dairy!) but I am having soup most of the time and soy milk about 1/3 of the time! It just tastes better to me.
  7. Yes, it's important to keep those expectations in check! It's also important to know what my doctor said is that on average people lose 60% of their desired weight. So if you want to lose 100 lbs, the average person loses 60 lbs! that means to get to goal you need to work HARD to get there!
  8. I'm still on liquids (3 more days!) and I do feel satisfied with about 4-5 oz of something to drink-- even non-calorie drinks. I don't LIKE the full feeling now, it makes me sick. I had Soup, AND a popsicle the other day and it was TOO much and I didn't like it! I feel like I have been pretty good about not taking too much in at once, and just feeling satisfied with a small amount. I hope it continues!
  9. Fiberous foods-- I think those are things like asparagus and pineapple. My doc said they are hard to digest. As for Frogs, I think you need to drive the four hours to see your actual surgeon. It sounds like you need to have a check up because you shouldn't be having those problems.
  10. I think it might be time for a toddler bed!! My doctor said nothing over 15 lbs! And believe me, if I try to move some piece of furniture or lift something I can FEEL it!
  11. I'm so sorry that happened! My doctor told me if they found a hernia during my surgery (also self-pay) that he would just fix it for free because it's only a few stitches. Try contacting your doctor's office and see if they can settle it up for you!
  12. I just thought I'd update everyone on my situation. I was at work yesterday and looked down at my blouse and their was a big wet splotch on it. My incision site was oozing like crazy. I went to the school nurse (I'm a teacher) and she put a bandage over it but didn't do much else except to tell me to call the Dr. and get in ASAP. So I called, but not until school was out and had my appointment this afternoon. They "scooped" all the gunk out of my wound and it is like a gaping hole in my belly (EW!!!!:scared2:) I got some antibiotics, some sterile Water, tons of gauze, tape and lots in instructions. They want me to clean it with soap and water, make sure to WIPE out any yucky stuff with gauze and it needs to look pink (like hamburger she said.) She said bleeding was good. It was so nasty I wanted to barf! And it hurt while she cleaned it out. SO.... if you think there is even a LITTLE redness or soreness that doesn't seem normal, go to the doctor. Amazingly after the scooping torture, it stopped hurting! The good thing is she said it should be good enough in 3 weeks for a fill. :thumbup:The bad thing is she said no yoga, and my first class is on Sunday with a friend. :lovechoc: I also thought it would be best to NOT include a picture now because it is super disgusting. I am also worried now that I won't have a neat little scar but a big fat thick one...
  13. It's funny, but after I posted this, I started a "normal" period during the day. It was weird that I spotted for almost 5 days!
  14. I think I am having my period but it's just been some super light spotting and mostly sort of a darkish red color. It was bright red only for a short time. It has been about 4 days of this strange spotting. I am thinking this is because of the big trauma I just put my body through and the hugely reduced calories... am I correct? I am incredibly regular most of the time and it started on the first, which was the day I anticipated my period would start. Thanks!
  15. It was put together with glue I think... It doesn't stink, radiate or anything else... it's still sore and is red though. And a TINY bit of oozing.
  16. I think my port incision might be infected. It's reddish/pink, tender and still hurts. I am just over two weeks post-op and still in a bit of pain. I can't get to the doctor though! I am just starting a new school year and can't take time off so soon. I can't use Neosporin because I am allergic to sulfa and I don't know what else I could put on it. I dribbled some hydrogen perioxide over the scar and it fizzed up like crazy. I tested some of my other scars and it didn't do that! Any ideas of what to do? I am also not sure if it's just part of the process.
  17. I find that I can drink things really quickly now. Especially Soup broth. I just drank about 6 oz in about 15 minutes (a coffee mug.) I need to watch and measure and make sure I only take 4 from now on. Am I damaging my pouch? I feel fine! I can't seem to do the same with other drinks, but I don't always remember to take small sips. I never asked the doctor about restriction, but am guessing I have none. I am definitely losing weight and feel good... I just don't want to stretch it out and end up not losing well. Thanks!!!
  18. I have been hitting up my local Safeway for the chicken noodle Soup from their deli. I scoop it very carefully so I can avoid anything chunky. It's mmmmm gooooood! Anyway, I realized today they have these little one ounce sampling cups. So I sampled a little of each soup (the broth of the Italian Wedding Soup, the Tomato bisque and the NW Clam Chowder.) It was a meal! Try it!!!
  19. I'm burping a lot on liquids. After I drink sometimes I will have 5-10 little bitty burps. Often they are almost silent. Just releasing the air. I'm just happy I'm not farting up a storm like my poor friend who had gastric bypass. You have to flee the house when she passes gas and it's frequent!
  20. I am supposed to be on liquids for three weeks. This was day 10. The last few days I have been very sick with diarrhea and today started to feel very sick, weak and dehydrated. I called the dr's office and the dietician said a lot of people react to the artificial sweeteners in the drinks and having such a concentrated amount can cause the diarrhea. She suggested that I drink only soy milk, Water and chicken broth. Something about the sound of that was just horrible. Two weeks seemed unbearable. She said even if I had soy milk 10x a day it would be fine (that's about 1500 calories.) She said make sure the diarrhea cleared up and call tomorrow. I went to the store to go get more soy milk and ended up getting some of the hot chicken Soup. I got all the stuff out, only the broth, and ate it. I feel SO much better. I got home and had some tomato soup that I had in the cupboard. I understand I should follow doctors orders... but I don't think I can do 2 weeks of nothing but soy milk!! Maybe she didn't intend for that to be the whole two weeks (she said check in tomorrow) but every Protein drink I try makes me sick. I have a bad aversion (intolerance or allergy?) to dairy and it makes me feel terrible. The only drink I have found that doesn't make me 1) have diarrhea or  break out is a vegan drink that tastes like chalk and cardboard mixed in a blender. (BTW, I have opted for the skin over the stomach before, but now not only have diarrhea but very itchy, red, broken out skin!) I just had to make a confession. It seems a lot of people are on mushies at this point in their program. I don't think soup that's been strained should be too bad for me... likewise, I think I should be able to have an all-natural juice. I know there are sugar and calories in that, but soy milk has like 14-17 grams of sugar in it so what's the difference?? It also only has about 4 grams of protein, and an odwalla juice has 3 grams of protein... Anyway, maybe I am justifying something I shouldn't? Maybe I should do the soy milk for the rest of this diet? I don't know. I just know I feel a lot better with some chicken soup in my body.
  21. I am getting worried. I took milk of magnesia on Sunday night and have had diarrhea since. It's not a lot (since I am hardly drinking anything) but I am getting worried. My lips are chapped now (dehydration) and I don't know what to do.
  22. I am on day eight of the post-surgery liquid diet (I have to do it for 15 more days!) I need to be on liquids until my post op diet and it's already starting to feel too long. Today was the first day I started craving food. I was walking down the street and restaurants were smelling good... my neighbors in my apartment building are cooking cinnamon rolls and they smell good! I was visiting someone's house for a bit and they were cooking dinner and it smelled good! last week it didn't bother me if people ate around me. Now just the smell of food is making me drool! I drank another Protein shake and am going to BED early to watch a movie and get my mind off--though the cinnamon roll smell is wafting into my bedroom. I wish they were cooking fish tonight instead! My whole drive home I kept thinking about clam chowder or cream of mushroom Soup. I can only have broth right now. What do you do about cravings???? I hope this isn't a sign of something to come?
  23. My doctor recommended Milk of Magnesia for constipation. It's a full week after my surgery and no BM yet. Today I started feeling like I have to "go" but have not and really want to avoid the pain of cramping if I do start to cramp. As of now I just have that sort of feeling, but no go. I am a little scared to take the M of M... did anyone take it for this? I have never had it before and do NOT want diarrhea or cramping! I am only going to take 2 tbs which is the minimum dose... thanks!
  24. Today was my first day at work, and I was sitting in meetings most of the day. I started getting a bad pain on my back by my right shoulder. I know a lot of people mentioned shoulder pain right after surgery, but I didn't have it then. I am wondering if this is gas pain, or if it's from sitting so much more than I was used to in a day? I think I should add that I have been walking around and pretty active since my surgery. I have taken walks and gone shopping and all kinds of things. Today was definitely a pretty sedentary day. I got home at 4:30 and went to sleep! I woke up at 7:30 pm and the pain is still there. Now of course I have to rest, and do this again tomorrow, only my day will be from 7:00 am -6 pm!!
  25. I had surgery on 8/18. I also have been hungry but have not eaten any food. I'm worried about a) stretching my pouch, and damaging the band. I think you need to drink more Protein if you get hungry again. And if you live alone, get rid of the food in your house. You could really do some damage to your body if you continue to eat! I would also talk to your doctor tomorrow. I have been VERY hungry, but despite that, it's important to continue to drink only liquids. I find that if I drink more protein, I can keep from starving.
