amethyst391 got a reaction from sarahb309 in Can't find any exercise I like!
Prior to surgery, I had a trainer and I ended up really loving powerlifting. Lifting weights was really fun for me. I also did mma style fighting with jui jitsu. I plan on going back to that once I've healed more.
Cardio kickboxing and boxing is also really fun.
I'd suggest getting a trainer that makes your workouts fun and to achieve small goals along the way.

amethyst391 got a reaction from Julie norton in Diet Coke
Diet Coke does not have any calories. However again, as others have mentioned, you should stick with your doctor' orders. Also, increased carbonation can affect you (gas is not pleasant) and I'd highly suggest trying to make changes instead of sticking to old habits. Have ice Water with lime or lemon juice squeezed in. Add some Truvia or Splenda for additional sweetness if you want.
I loooooove Coke Zero but haven't touched it once since surgery and frankly, I don't really miss it that much. I think it's definitely a mental mindset of making sure I make healthier decisions.

IUD is perfectly safe for women who have not had children. Doctors who don't recommend it are using old reasoning (because the cervix is tighter and can cause more discomfort after implanting). Best decision I've made was to get the IUD. It was uncomfortable for the first few days but afterwards, no periods, no more cramping, and I don't have to remember taking the pill everyday.
Weight loss doesn't inhibit birth control, it makes one more fertile because of less adipose tissue. So yes, use birth control and use backup if you're really worried.

amethyst391 got a reaction from ronniethegreat in Help! Gaining weight!
It's completely normal to gain weight after surgery. It's because of the IV fluids and your body trying to heal from surgery. My nurse even said to not even bother weighing yourself when getting home because it'll be higher. Just weigh yourself a week after and you'll see that your weight has dropped significantly! I lost 10 lbs my first week.

amethyst391 got a reaction from PenMck in Hunger
After surgery, there are additional signaling in the stomach from the trauma of surgery and increased acid that may be confused for hunger pains. If you're right after surgery, it's probably not real hunger and most likely head hunger.
I had serious head hunger after the first week of surgery. I watched a ton of food cooking videos which helped although may be too tempting for others.
Just take it a day at a time
I actually started feeling real hunger and stomach growling about a month after surgery. But the intensity is definitely a lot less than before surgery. Which helps me a lot with making better food choices.

amethyst391 got a reaction from Ashley Menhennett in Malabsorbtion with sleeve?
With the sleeve, you shouldn't have malabsorption. However with the reduced intake of food, you may not get all the nutrients you need, hence the Vitamins and supplements. I don't think you'll have a problem with medication with the sleeve. This is a great question for your doctor. I talked to mine about this specifically because I plan on getting pregnant and I didn't want issues with malabsorption so the sleeve was the best option and not the RNY or bypass.

amethyst391 reacted to atontor in 18 months post op
Hello all. Happy holidays. Just doing a follow up. I was sleeved 5/29/15. Pre surgery weight 345 SW 320 CW 200. My Dr told me my goal would be 225 but I passed that in the first 6 months. It was easy losing. The hard part is maintaining but I'm trying my best. It's just important to surround yourself with positive people and unfortunately at times we have to let go of some relationships because of their lack of respect. Hope everyone is doing well. You're welcome to ask any question. I'm in NYC if there are any locals for chatting.

Wow. I had a consultation with dr Kim bariatric and I chose not to based on previous lawsuits they had and also they're very far away. Good thing I chose a different doctor.

amethyst391 got a reaction from morningangel79 in Not telling anyone. What do you say?
I've only told my family, close friends, and a few coworkers that I'm close to. I was also bashful about talking about it at work and I generally don't unless someone asked me specifically. I don't like lying and so I say I had surgery. If they ask what surgery, I'd say I had the vsg. But I'm not super open about it and letting everyone know on Facebook or social media. My confidence isn't quite there yet. And frankly, this is my medical issue and I like my privacy.
I even talked to my psychologist during my evaluation about this specific issue. She said that I should be more open to it and to embrace it but she understands if I don't want to talk about it. It depends on my comfort level. My husband thinks I should "own it" and be free to talk about it. Because he's proud that I've taken this step to make myself healthier and it's brave for anyone to take this huge step. As time goes along, I'm sure I'll be more open about it.

I would drive myself crazy if I stayed at home for 6 weeks. But that's just me. Everyone has their preference and sometimes it's job dependent. I went back to work a week and a half later. I worked part time and slowly worked my way up to a full work day because of lack of energy and mental fogginess. I'm in my 4th week post op and I feel almost normal.

amethyst391 got a reaction from ShelterDog64 in Morphine drip?
Yes! Nurses told me that it's better to use the morphine pump when I start feeling pain because once the anesthesia wears out, it'll be quite painful and uncomfortable. I used it for about 24 hours every 3-4 hours. I went home next day and used liquid hydrocodone/Tylenol for about 6 days. I had to ween myself off and just stuck with Tylenol for another 2 days so I could drive and go back to work. Completely pain free after that. Everyone's pain tolerance is different and kudos to those that hardly took pain meds. I'm a bit of a weeny. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Agreed. Since you're recovering and don't want to be exposed to narcotics, please talk to your surgeon about alternatives. Some people do extremely well with just extra strength liquid Tylenol. Just talk to your doctor and see how it goes from there.

amethyst391 got a reaction from hlampkin in Self pay
I'm also self pay and everything was inclusive for the surgery itself . I had mine done in Texas. Only thing I had to pay extra for were the pre op testing. Some of the cardiac stress tests and ultrasound tests were expensive and I paid over $2000 out of pocket for all of the extra procedures prior to setting a surgery date. But I haven't received any extra bills for the surgery itself. Fingers crossed.

Wow. It's like I wrote this topic!
My surgery was Nov 9th. Since surgery I've only lost 11lbs and that was all the 1st week home. (After I gained it right after surgery)
I was self pay also. I paid a lot and will still be paying this loan back.
So it's frustrating when it's not coming off.
I think of all the stuff I'm NOT eating or drinking and wonder how in the world is it not flying off of me?
I guess we read about the stalls but think " nah it won't happen to me".
    But of course it does!
I keep saying. "This too shall pass".
I think when it happens to us, we get nervous that the surgery didn't work or something must be wrong etc...
They should have a forum called "after the stall" lol

I had my sleeve and a hernia fixed at the same time. Didn't even know I had a hiatal hernia until they went in. Found out it was a minor one and gave me one small stitch to fix it. My doctor said it's common and he does it all the time.
