    Help! Gaining weight!

It's completely normal to gain weight after surgery. It's because of the IV fluids and your body trying to heal from surgery. My nurse even said to not even bother weighing yourself when getting home because it'll be higher. Just weigh yourself a week after and you'll see that your weight has dropped significantly! I lost 10 lbs my first week. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Contraception (TMI for some)

IUD is perfectly safe for women who have not had children. Doctors who don't recommend it are using old reasoning (because the cervix is tighter and can cause more discomfort after implanting). Best decision I've made was to get the IUD. It was uncomfortable for the first few days but afterwards, no periods, no more cramping, and I don't have to remember taking the pill everyday. Weight loss doesn't inhibit birth control, it makes one more fertile because of less adipose tissue. So yes, use birth control and use backup if you're really worried. How often do you weigh yourself?

Twice a week. My surgery date was a Friday. So I weigh myself on Friday mornings and Monday mornings. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    I'm struggling with muscle loss.

Everyone has really good suggestions. sleep more, add extra Protein, etc. if you're that active, I'd suggest bumping up your carbs too. You can still stay in keto. Your muscles do require carbohydrates for strength. If you want to add supplements, glutamine and creatine will also help with preventing muscle loss. However, creatine does cause Water retention so you may notice you're not "losing" as much but it's just water. Glutamine is a supplement that's used at our hospital to prevent muscle wasting in patients with hypermetabolic syndrome. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    EKG Anomalies

I wouldn't worry too much. I would ask your primary physician to refer you to see an actual cardiologist where they can do additional testing and to see if those prior results are just anomalies or is an indicator of cardiac disease. A cardiologist will have more expertise in interpreting these results rather than a pcp. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Can't find any exercise I like!

Prior to surgery, I had a trainer and I ended up really loving powerlifting. Lifting weights was really fun for me. I also did mma style fighting with jui jitsu. I plan on going back to that once I've healed more. Cardio kickboxing and boxing is also really fun. I'd suggest getting a trainer that makes your workouts fun and to achieve small goals along the way. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Hunger

After surgery, there are additional signaling in the stomach from the trauma of surgery and increased acid that may be confused for hunger pains. If you're right after surgery, it's probably not real hunger and most likely head hunger. I had serious head hunger after the first week of surgery. I watched a ton of food cooking videos which helped although may be too tempting for others. Just take it a day at a time I actually started feeling real hunger and stomach growling about a month after surgery. But the intensity is definitely a lot less than before surgery. Which helps me a lot with making better food choices. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Diet Coke

Diet Coke does not have any calories. However again, as others have mentioned, you should stick with your doctor' orders. Also, increased carbonation can affect you (gas is not pleasant) and I'd highly suggest trying to make changes instead of sticking to old habits. Have ice Water with lime or lemon juice squeezed in. Add some Truvia or Splenda for additional sweetness if you want. I loooooove Coke Zero but haven't touched it once since surgery and frankly, I don't really miss it that much. I think it's definitely a mental mindset of making sure I make healthier decisions. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Strength Training

I was given the ok for light strength training at 3 weeks out. Surgeon recommended to take it easy (I used to do powerlifting) and just listen to my body. So far so good! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  11. Yup. Hit my stall at 4 weeks post op which was exactly when I started my soft food diet. Gained 2 lbs and then lost 1 lb. scale didn't move for about 10 days. I think what broke it was 1) giving my body time to adjust 2) make sure I'm drinking enough and 3) hitting the gym really hard. Just recovering from my stall and I've lost about 2 lbs this week. Yay! 12. My bariatric nurse told me it would take 9-14 days without a BM after surgery. It took me 9 days and finally went. It was very loose and funny. So apparently that's normal... but I felt super bloated. And especially after soft foods, I had to take miralax and milk of mg to get things moving again. Now I go about every 2-3 days. If things get super uncomfortable and painful, go talk to your doctor or go to ER. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Malabsorbtion with sleeve?

With the sleeve, you shouldn't have malabsorption. However with the reduced intake of food, you may not get all the nutrients you need, hence the Vitamins and supplements. I don't think you'll have a problem with medication with the sleeve. This is a great question for your doctor. I talked to mine about this specifically because I plan on getting pregnant and I didn't want issues with malabsorption so the sleeve was the best option and not the RNY or bypass. 3 week stall

Update - my stall finally broke. 10!days and the scale finally budged. Last Friday I was still at the same weight. Today Monday morning, lost 1 lb. things I did differently the past week: walk more, drink more fluids, get my Protein in, upped my carbs a little, went to gym. I think the gym helped out a lot. I did a lot of strength training this time. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
