MowryRocks got a reaction from Ppdunn22192 in Considering Gastric Sleeve but I have Gout
I have read articles that indicate both. I read an article that stated that Gout may actually sometimes be a side effect of surgery. Probably a good question for the professionals.

    I experience the same thing.
If I had a dollar for every time I thought that maybe there was something wrong with me preventing me from losing more weight...
    Hang in there.

I would say no. Not completely, but...I can usually open my mouth for a conversation without the loudest belch ever escaping ( and I mean Escaping without any warning that it was coming.) from what sounds like a completely cavernous realm. I still belch, but usually only if I drink too fast, after I'm eating, or if I'm having a bout of reflux. the gurgling in the throat has ceased.
Embrace it. The importance of your Water requirements are waaaaay more important that your pride.

I'm keeping lists of stuff I want to do, from the mundane like being able to go up the ladder into the attic to the more ambitious like a difficult 8-mile hike my friend has scheduled for September. I'm hoping checking off stuff like that will help satisfy the goal-achieving craving.
I'm also going to only weigh myself once a month to try and control the dopamine rush during my weight loss phase. Hoping I have the willpower to resist, lol...

MowryRocks got a reaction from shelleys goal in Carbonated Beverages?
I'm 15 months out and I have not had any carbonation at all since July of 2016. That's a year and a half ago. The only time I miss it is when we are standing in the gas station and my family has all grabbed their sodas and I am standing at the case trying to find something I really want and not just something I'm settling for. If I'm at home or in a restaurant, it's unsweetened tea. If I am in the convenience store...I try to look for Vitamin Water Zero or Bai ( Panama Peach and Costa Rica Clementine) is a fav! You'll eventually make your own decisions about carbonation and you'll determine whether or not it is something you can tolerate.
Personally, I LOVED diet soda pre-op and the sodium in carbonated drinks went a long way in keeping me bloated and heavy. I'd rather not know if I can tolerate it and continue to live my life without it.

MowryRocks got a reaction from VSG_Meow_Bitch in Exercising post op
There is a bariatric surgeon online that warns about intense exercise within the first 6 months citing that your body can't possibly take in enough calories to support that kind of activity, I was cleared for walking at a month and basically nothing more until about the 6 month. I wasn't expressly told no, but my surgeon didn't even ask or suggest more intense workouts until that point. Currently, I am almost 11 months out and I work out 6 days a week. My nutritionist has me alternate running for an hour one day, then running 15 minutes, 30 minutes of circuit/weight training, followed by running 15 minutes on the other. He warned me against straight weight training while in the weight loss phase and urged me not to confuse my body with intentionally building muscle. He advised that weight training is likely the reason for long stalls previously.

My worst side effects have been uncontrollable belching (which eased after about 3 months post op) and Constipation. While they seem minor. The constipation is/was severe.

MowryRocks got a reaction from Donnijeep in Lack of motivation
Have you thought about shifting your mindset? Instead of determining the success of your workouts by the weight you lose, focus on becoming stronger or faster. I now set quarterly gym goals and while weight loss and maintaining is still very important to me, my focus lies on improving my health in other ways now. This helps to keep me motivated and less down on myself when the scale is moving slow or not at all.

What we need to think about is the health problems (side effects) of not losing the weight ...

Some things to think about because you are 17 days post op...
Is this going to hurt after you drink it?
Is the carbonation going to take up valuable room to get your Protein and Water goal in?

I'm over 2 years post op and can't tolerate any carbonation at all! The only time I miss it is at the movie theater. I've seen other people drink an entire Dr Pepper in one setting. 🤷🏻‍♀️

My sleeve was in late October. I had a huge melt down a month after and think it was mostly dealing with all the changes. Give yourself time, it’s so much. The surgery was an act of self love, focus on that every day. Listen to your body, rest and heal.

    It definitely will get better!

    My nutrionist has me on:
Department store brand Children's Complete (equivalent to Flinstones Complete) chewables....2 per day
    500mcg B12 (I get whatever's on sale on Amazon)
B-50 B Complex (again, whatever's on sale works)
    5000IU of Vitamin D (cause I'm deficient...and again, what's on sale works)
And 600mg of calcium citrate with D....twice a day (I buy a department store brand...buy one get one free)
I would be very surprised if I spend over $300 per year.

No, I can't stand "food police." I'm a grown ass woman . . . I can decide what and how much I'm going to eat. Even if I make the wrong choices, they are my choices to make.
That being said, my husband is extremely supportive and he has nice ways of pointing out when I am headed down the wrong path. That doesn't bother me at all. I don't think of that as policing me as much as just helping me see a pattern of behavior.

THAT has NEVER worked for me!! I also get angry and it will make me want the bad stuff all the more!! I don't need anyone telling me what I can or cannot eat or drink!!! I don't find it helpful at all! I have spent my life with others looking and telling me what and how to diet and eat!! Nothing makes me madder than someone commenting on what and how much I am eating!!

Maybe consult your surgeon about sleeve to RNY?
Phentermine worries me. The side effects, including the occasional death, heart attack, stroke, heart failure and psychosis....are pretty offputting to me. It does nothing to change your habits, so when you stop it...the weight comes back. (sorry, wish this weren't true)
I think the thing to do is to talk to the docs again, work on diet, work on exercise....same old dance.
I wish it could be easier. Believe me. I REALLY wish it were easier.
Best wishes to you. Your post is brave and appreciated.
PS...glad your Christmas outfits worked out:)

My father was a "food cop." His behaviour is partially responsible for where I am today. I think the "food police" is detrimental.

Adults who police other adults....unless they are seriously invested in the situation (spouse, child)...in my opinion are annoying, rude, and potentially bullying. Fat shaming is one of the last protected ugly prejudices. People can be unkind using "but it's for their own good" as an excuse for their unkindness.
My significant other and my bestie don't police me, but they are extremely supportive and try to be helpful.
There's a huge difference between "Should you be eating that?" and "What can I make that's on your diet so we can both enjoy it?"
There's also a huge difference between advice that's given from a place of genuine love and concern...and advice that's given out of a sense of pious superiority or nastiness.
    Semantics matter.

    I'm my own food police..lol
People have their own opinions on what foods are correct.. I also noticed people get emotional/passionate about their way to eat to lose weight. It's a political topic..lol

I am so happy for you! He definitely sounds like a keeper! I love this post
I told my fiancé about my decision to have the sleeve. We've been together for 3.5 years, and if I cannot open up to him, who am I going to open up to? He's my biggest supporter (even though he's tall and skinny, he will still eat healthy with me) and he's my "food police" when I want to "cheat".
I don't think you should be scared having this discussion. It's how you weed out the good from the bad. You told him, and he supports you! That's a good man right there! Congrats on your relationship with a keeper!

I am a secret sleever, I only told a few friends and my doctors (one of whom is a very good friend of mine). I won't get into all my reasons why, but I just decided to keep it to myself.
I always knew that when I started dating, I would have to decide when I was serious enough about someone to tell them. It's been 9 months and a lot of bad dates, but I met someone in October and he is incredible. I knew right away he was a keeper, and I pretty much dreaded the "so I've got this thing to tell you" conversation. I don't know if I just thought he would be scared off by the idea of meals always revolving around my restrictions, or that he would think I was a lazy failed dieter who took the easy way out, or if he'd see me as someone who was sick or something. But I finally told him the reason I only have a side of veggies or a cup of Soup or a few bites of my dinner when we go out is that I had most of my stomach removed. And of course, he was relieved. He said he noticed me eating like a bird and worried I might have an eating disorder, because he knew I used to be much heavier a year ago and now I'm not. I explained everything to him and that I really don't have much in the way of things I can't eat except bread and drinking milk which both give me tummy issues, so I avoid bread and I've switched to almond milk in my coffee. But other than that, nothing really is different except the amount of food I can eat. He was very accepting. When we eat out together, he confers with me on his order so we can just split his meal. He gets the veggies instead of fries on the side. He's just been lovely. And the first time I stayed over at his house, I tip-toed downstairs in the morning to find that he had bought some almond milk for me to have in my coffee.
I'm so glad I told him and I feel so silly for worrying over what he would think. This was a big step and the first "new" person I've told besides my initial support group of close friends. It was a big deal and I'm very glad it's behind me!
