    Worried -Surgery Monday march 13th

You are going to great lengths to get the surgery, once you see the weight start to drop you do change your thinking. It takes 3 weeks to form a habit. Use the first month after surgery to change your ways. I don't know what you have been given as a post op diet, but mine was mostly savoury which helped me because I previously had a very sweet tooth. 3 weeks after surgery, I drank 120ml of store bought iced coffee in one sitting and about an hour later I started getting the sweats and stomach cramps so I ran to the loo. I was dumping because of the excess sugar in the drink. Once you experience this, you soon change your mindset. You can do this, you have already started the change with the courage to have the surgery. YOU CAN DO THIS!!!

    "Fat Clothes"

As soon as it's loose or a size too small, its out of my wardrobe and off to Goodwill. I have a 'next size down' selection in there and it replaced the 'will keep in case I put on weight' section.

    Painful to drink water

Are you drinking plain water or protein water. I can't drink plain water but can drink protein water by the litre. I got the protein powder recommended by my dietician because you can use it to keep your protein levels up and your hydration levels ok. Make sure you take small sips regularly, no normal sips or gulps as this causes the discomfort. Also try it with a dash of diet cordial, the protein powder and cordial break the surface tension of the water making it easier to drink. If this doesn't work its best to see your gp as you may need an iv drip to rehydrate you.

    Worried -Surgery Monday march 13th

Don't let the nerves get to you. I am 44 and was sleeved on November 7, 2016 and no longer have high blood pressure or cholesterol issues. The only reason you won't lose weight is if you don't follow your surgeon's and dietician's advice. I only had discomfort in the first few days in hospital until they took the drain out. After that I found it easy. I found that planning every meal and changing our old routine of finding something quick and easy at the shop on the way home from work to planning a weekly menu on Sunday and shopping only for that menu. I also started baking school foods and stopped using sugar in it and used dextrose instead. All of these changes and a supportive family have made my journey easier. A good bariatric multivitamin is a must. My weight loss has slowed in the the last few weeks to 0.5kg a week, but I know why. I have made a couple of bad choices, thinking that I can eat normal food means I can have a bad food choices but I've found that pizza doesn't taste the same so no more pizza for me. I also haven't been as active. It's the best feeling when you get to go through the wardrobe and getting rid of the bigger sizes and I now have a next size down selection of clothes. There is no feeling like walking into a boutique clothing store and being able to try on what I call skinny clothes. You can do it and you will make it happen. I that my experience helps ease your nerves.

  7. I have fibro myalgia and osteoarthritis and was sleeved Nov 7, 2016. The flare of intense pain that had been going from ankle to calf for 3 months prior to op, has since dissipated to a dull ache when I've been on my feet for a while. I got the sleeve done hoping to make a difference to my symptoms. There is a Facebook page called 'Fibro myalgia Talk' and I remember seeing someone post about their experiences with the sleeve and weight loss. Sent from my SM-T350 using the BariatricPal App

    Shame

I also have osteoarthritis plus I have fibro myalgia. I felt like I was cheating going to ask my GP for a referral. She said no worries I may see you there sometime, I had it done 2 weeks ago. My surgeon also had it done this year. There is nothing to be ashamed of because if you are like me, I put on more weight because of the side effects of my medication. I sat in my GP's office in tears because no matter what diet, shake or pills I took just didn't work for me. I don't know if it's the same in your country, but in Australia we have to have a session with a psychologist before we are accepted for the surgery. I found my session really helpful. I hope all goes well for you and remember that you are doing this to give you a second chance to change your life and make living with your ilnesses more bearable. Post op liquid diet

Not sure about coconut oil, it wasn't popular 16 years ago and the lady who told me about it was in her 60's. You could give it a try and let us know.My GP was told olive oil as well but not lemon juice. The olive oil takes the lemon juice straight to the gall bladder like on a slippery slide. The lemon juice breaks down the gallstones. I mixed mine together in a medicine cup. From first scan and diagnosis 7 stones the size of jaffas to surgery 6 months later, 7 stones as small as peppercorns. Sent from my SM-T350 using the BariatricPal App
  14. I had my gall bladder out 16 years ago. Even before my sleeve, I was having gallstone pain. I reverted to my old wives tale remedy of a tablespoon of olive oil and one of lemon juice mixed together and the pain went away. I take it every day now as a preventative.
