This really is unbelievable.
Wheetsin, Yes, that's the same issue, after the appeal. I can only hope that you are correct. It just seems unbelievable to us that they can get away with only paying $1700 for the whole friggin' procedure.

This really is unbelievable.
Joy had her surgery back in December. BCBS of Texas sent a letter saying that she was eligible for benefits. Doctor sent us to a medical facility who accepts BCBS. When the bills were all sent out, totalling $42,000, BCBS paid a whopping total of $1629....that includes what they paid the doctor. We appealed the payment to the hospital and they are standing by their original determination. What the heck? They say we're covered then pay PENNIES on the dollar? Is there a secret list of payments out there somewhere that I'm not aware of? Am I going to be stuck with paying off the other thousands of dollars, now? They only allowed $273.99 for the operating room. Where in the state of Texas can you use an operating room for $274??? And if there is some cheapa$$ hospital that charges that much, would YOU want to go in there for surgery? I can only hope that if the hospital wants me to pay for it, they will accept $20 a month....you can't get blood from a turnip. And you can't get BCBS to pay squat on your lapband surgery......IMHO

Questions for group...
Yes, Kathy, my wife was required to do two weeks of liquids so that her liver would shrink. This makes it a bit easier to move it out of the way during your surgery.

Anyone go for a while postop without a fill?
Joy has had two fills in the last three months and she says that she feels she could eat more NOW than she could right after surgery. I think with the last fill she is at 8cc...go figure!

confused and scared
Well, having lost over 52 pounds in not quite 3 months, I wouldn't expect you to go for another fill any time too soon, Susan. WAY TO GO P'NUT!!!!! *wink*

One bad week...
Thank you, everyone. As with any death, time will dull the pain and temper our memories. Mom is home, sleeping in her own bed tonight. Two of her sisters were in for the funeral and they stayed an extra night to keep her company.

One bad week...
MsJoy and I were awakened at 5:00 am on Monday morning. My sister was screaming something at my wife and Joy was saying, I'll be right there. When I quized her about what was going on and where was Vickie, she didn't really have any answers. She was going to drive around until she found where she was. She was at the hospital and her husband had just died from a massive heart attack. Dennis was 39. We started making all the arrangements the next day. Tuesday evening, we were at Vickie's house around 10:30 pm, tired and starting to wind down when there was a phone call. The caller told my sister that our mom was being loaded into the ambulance right that minute and would be heading to the hospital. Vickie said, "My mom?" At the ER we found out, after several hours and tests, that she had a "bug" and diverticulitis (sp). They put her in the hospital. We had the funeral on Thursday. Mom was released from the hospital today, Friday. She missed her son-in-laws funeral, but the church made a video tape and she will get to see that. Right before mom got out, Vickie discovered that she has the "bug" and lost all of her lunch (first real meal in about 4 days). This week has really kind of sucked...

confused and scared
I would think that you stand a better chance of being in a car accident on the way to getting your fill than getting an infection FROM your fill.....no facts or figures, just MHO.

VanGaurd fills
Joy had her second fill yesterday and they took her from a 6 to an 8cc fill. They used the xray and restricted her so that the barium would not pass through. Then the NP unfilled her just a bit and we saw the barium shoot through her band. That was where they left her. Now liquids for a week and then back to mushies and such....

If I make it, I'll be surprised. Janet, Joy's family called last night and informed us that they were driving up from San Antonio today to visit for the weekend. Joy's dad is 81, so I guess we'll sit around the house and watch him nod off on the couch.....oh whooopie...*sigh*

1st fill today - no anesthetic - EASY!
One? One CC? In a 10CC band? That's what I call being cautious. Joy's first fill was 6cc. Are these fills included in the cost of your surgery, Elisa? Or do you have to pay for EACH fill?

asking for opinions
Lane, my wife is about 8 weeks post op and had been avoiding tomato products of all kinds until yesterday when she had a V-8. Bad, bad, bad shoulder pain. Stay away from tomatoes. Too much acid. You may have reflux, like Joy. The doc put her on Prilosec OTC.

Some help from the ladies, please?
:clap2::update: :clap2: I had to wind up calling the doctor's office myself because they had faxed Joy's biopsy results to the little clinic here in our town...which isn't open but on Thursdays, people. (straigntening my clothes back out...) The nurse told me that they found NO ABNORMAL CELLS !!!!! Thank God it only took them 11 days to get the information to me...Joy has only lost HALF of her mind worrying about it. SHEESH!!! I want to thank everyone for their kind words and encouragement. Even if we had known what it was, you still get the woolies worrying about it and being able to share and get your feedback made it so much easier. Thank you.....
