mbuczkowski got a reaction from Clarevoyant in Ecstatic about my support crew
I am single and live with my 2 dogs. So, I need family assistance with Hospital and the dog care when I go in for surgery.
My whole family has been understanding, but last night my dad had a glimmer in his eye of excitement for me. I used to compete in triathlons (for fun) and he was asking if I thought I could start again next year. I could hear it in his voice too.
He is 72 and still doing then....ranked 3rd in his age group nationally.

Ok...I have read more than once that people can eat around their sleeve or that bad foods slide right through. I don't understand how this is possible...so can someone explain why?
I understand Protein takes longer to digest...but not sure about the carb and sugar items? Just curious. I am still pre-op and am just learning.

Thank you all...this makes a lot of sense. I just want to ensure I am aware of everything and avoid any slippery slopes

Beer. Do you know why beer goes through you even faster than Water? Because it doesn't have to stop to change color!

Picture bread or potato chips in a class of Water. They practically dissolve. meat doesn't breakdown to that degree and that quickly. Also. If you take a bag of potato chips or bread and crush and compact them you can still hold a lot of calories.

Because of the way the pyloric valve works. The pyloric valve sits at the bottom of your stomach and it is what regulates passage of food into the intestines. If you put food that is tough to digest in your stomach, it will close up so that your stomach can get in extra digestion time with it before it goes to the intestines. Food that is hard to digest is the kind of thing that is chewy, fibrous, tough, or high Protein. So, things like lean meat and green veggies cause the pyloric valve to close up and food to stay inside your stomach for longer, leading to a feeling of fullness or satiety. Food that is easy to digest -- high carb food with little Fiber, like highly processed grain-based foods and sweets, do not cause the pyloric valve to close up. They "slide" right through the open valve leading you to feel like you are still hungry and can just eat more and more.

Called my insurance and was told my employer specifically excluded bariatric surgeries from policy. So, my route is self pay..unless someone can tell me otherwise.
Since I am going this route, I assume I can get in faster and am planning for Feb 17

I had to move my 1st meeting with the Dr until after the 1st of the year. But since I am self pay, I am hoping to have it in Feb.
I turn 40 in June and would love to have it done before then. However, Jan, March and April are tough months at work for time off.

Today I finally noticed another change.
After 6-8 weeks bouncing around the same weight, my longest stall so far, I put my pretty watch on, and it was super loose around my wrist.
In my fat days, I could barely do its Bracelet up, and it was digging into my skin.
Today, it was half way up towards my elbow .....
And I lost a full shoe size!
Even though my (I'm not happy with you right now) scales haven't budged much, obviously I am losing inches/centimetres ....
    Yay for small NSVs !
8 months post op, and I am well past my honeymoon phase, and I am so grateful for any improvements.

I see my surgeon to discuss the procedure, health, history when I get back from vacation. I hope to have surgery in early Feb 17.
Anyhow, I am running a half marathon tomorrow and have always been fairly active. I have participated in many sprint and Olympic distance triathlons, savage races, etc. I currently weight 330 lbs at 5'10". Has post surgical nutrition had to change for these races? When can I expect to be able to race again?
